I watched an anime called gensomaden saiyuki based on son goku, cho hakkai, genjo sanzo and sha gojyo i loved and recommend it
I'll look into it thanks!
Thank you. I didnt have enough money to buy em all. I watched comics, anime and live action. Only novel is left and wanted to read the censored romance as well as WWX past life. So i am getting 4 and 5 ❤ LWJ is goat to me and wang yibo played him so well. Appreciate the summary so i have more insight coz i started with show and it alo had flashbacks together till episode 33. I really wanted to know where the juicy bits were concentrated on most so i can skip on the comic show anime content i have already watched but lacking in explicit content due to BL censorship.
Yes, you'll get less censorship starting in book 5! And a bit at the end of book 4, that you wouldn't have seen in the anime or live action. Excited for you to read them!
Thank you. I saw a lot of reviews lamenting part two as well. Nobody really bothered to describe it like you did. Your great description and thoughtful take made a good case for maybe why the author chose to put these two stories in one book after all. My excitement is renewed and the book has gone back to the top of my TBR. Thanks a lot! And belated happy dog birthday. Cheers! 👏🏾🙏🏾🥂
Good review
I had been on a waitlist at my library to read this for months and now that I finished it I found it very unsatisfying and just weird.
It was pretty weird. I would've liked it to be a little longer, maybe go more into some characters. It's kind of its own weird little book lol.
i was wondering i am on book three but know most of what happens would it be okay for me to skip book three and go straight to book four?
I mean I guess you could if you were on a time crunch, but I feel like you get the best experience from reading everything.
@@oceansbooksandstuff ah okay and thanks for the advice :3
❤
Can I start with it before I go for the other ones? I didn't know it was a series 😅 Thanks❤
I mean, you could technically read it first! There are only a few characters that are in every book, so you'll just get more backstory for them when you read the others ones.
I really liked the movie and I'm a big fan of Hallmark😃
The Untamed is a treasure and masterpiece. They did an excellent job of working around the censors in China. It was more satisfying to me because their relationship seemed real and mature. It just seems real and deep. It is a wonder it ever got made and shown at all let alone being so realistic emotionally. Everyone is so gorgeous and talented. OST is incredibly beautiful. The is the OST, BGM, and a character OST in which All the characters have their own songs. I love the cultural differences. I loved it! It is now my favorite fantasy. Thank You reviewing it.
Love your points on their relationship. They did do a great job with it!
I finished this book in a day and it felt like one of those dreams I have when I nap on a hot summer day.
I watched untamed and read the novel too..& I think I did good that I watched untamed before reading the novels becoz during reading i have a good imagination of the character with their faces , that gives me a good feeling , infact about the intimate scenes which I didn't see in the drama I get a good imagination of that too😅😅 ... Long story short it was good to watch the drama before reading the novel , ..., it gives a satisfactory feeling you know ...
By the way could you plz recommend me something similar novels which has adapted drama tooo...
@@akshitasingh-wc6gw I think Heaven's Official Blessings has something, but I haven't watched or seen any of them yet!
So agree with you on the headband thing. The Untamed, at least when it comes to Wangxian's relationship, has a bit of an instant gratification problem. I understand that most fans are not bothered by it as they see it as the creators getting around censorship, and that's fine. But the donghua also has the censorship problem and they were able to follow the vibe of the novel better.
Yes. I think that's why I like the last half of the show so much better than the first half.
i love all the adaptation of the mdzs and thank you for the review. The head band thing was not because wwx did not wanted to part with him but because those strings would attack anyone who was not from the lan clan. wangji was not attacked because he was wearing the headband. wangji had to tie the headband to stop the attacks from the strings. Also because i watched The Untamed first i did not catch up with the golden core thing. I did not connect the dots and the reveal had me gutted at that time.
Yeah, you're right about the headband thing. I just think if they hadn't had that scene at all, they wouldn't have had to break the sacredness of the headband! But I'm glad you still had a good reaction for the golden core when you read it!
Love these books. Great review. About the multi-name thing? I see people struggle with it a lot but when I read it I actually thought it was cool that they had different names. It took a little time but after a while you get used to it. I mean we kind of do the same thing in English. If you read Pride and Prejudice she's called Lizzy, Miss Elizabeth and Miss Bennet but we get who is meant because it's just normal for us.
Good point! Yes, by the end of reading it, I was remembering each name for each person a lot easier than at the beginning.
I love this book series so much! its just, i cant even explain it. it has my heart, really. my favorite was the forth book out of the 5, cuz… it was so magical. there was everything. i really loved the first three too. they were the same. magical. unexplainable. unfortunately the fifth book wasnt that good for me, cuz i really loved the fights and mystery, and we didnt get it in the final book, of course for good reasons - they were happy, peaceful and in love. i loved that part too, in a different way. but, beside that, the book was a strong four star read. i will always be a Wei Wuxian fanatic. always. i am so happy that someone made a content of this book series, it just made my night. my friends didnt read it, so i cant speak w anyone about it, just annoy people. but the anime is gorgeous, there are differences, but im not regretting reading the book first. it was helpful that i already knew who was who and im so happy that there is also a series - i might get addicted. and, for my suprise, a few of my friends also watched it and they LOVED IT! big thank u for the content.
I don't regret reading the book first either. I also think it made it better to have that extra knowledge when watching the adaptations for it! I just finished watching the live action, The Untamed and I'm going to put up a video about my thoughts on it very soon! Overall, I really enjoyed it too, so you should watch it! I found it for free on Viki!
i felt the same like what you said about the book.mine was gifted as a birthday present.attracted to read ith because of its cover but fell in love instantly with the book for its content.this book is a healing book to everyone who reads it.
❤
Are these censored??
The books are not censored! Only the film adaptations are. It's pretty tame until the 4th and 5th book though.
Love This Review Also :)
I Had No Idea There Were More In The Series I Was A Little Sad After Finishing This One His Writing Style Kind Of Reminds Me Of Paulo Coelho (One Of My Favs BTW)
Great video definitely a tears jerker, I was really hoping for more info about ghost mom and Kazu. I don’t think I can handle two more books to find out
I know, we've been waiting for so long already! I hope it is worth the wait.
I saw this book yesterday,, thank you❤
Great that you're together today ❤
I'm happy to hear you love the music !! They have tons of songs about these two, and most of them are titled after their names (Wangxian, Wuji, etc.). From the donghua, the drama, and to the audio drama. The lyrics hit hard too, as some take Lan Wangji's perspective making it sound like love letters for Wei Wuxian. TvT Hope you enjoy The Untamed !!
Yes! I'm about 5 episodes into The Untamed so I have a way to go, but the music is good in it as well!

Awesome review. I just got this book and i cant wait to read it. I also have The Deep and The Troop. Ill get to those shortly.
Thank you! I'm such a slacker and haven't read those yet, but you best believe I still recommend this book all the time! - AJ
I really recommend "heaven official's blessing" by the same author It has 8 volumes and it's so worth it
Hannah doesn't have red curly hair in the movie
Yes, you're right. I always try to picture her with red hair when I'm reading the books. But sometimes I forget!
Good video. In the Japanese version, the author writes "先生でもなく、せんせいでもなく、カタカナでセンセイだ." which literally translates into Not sensei (Kanji writing), not sensei (hiragana writing), but sensei (katakana). This is hard to translate since it requires readers to understand that Japanese has 3 writing systems. She emphasizes writing sensei in the katakana script to emphasize how dear she is to him as opposed to writing in the two more formal ways. In Japan, writing names in katakana usually means someone close, and hardly anyone would write sensei in the katakana script.
Thank you for explaining that! That just adds so much to the story by knowing that, thank you.
These books are so bingeable. I just got the set and lost the past three days to reading them.
Looking forward to the review of book 5. Are you getting the special edition?
I'm getting that review up probably by the end of the week! I got the Barnes and Noble edition that has the extras and the color comic at the end!
@@oceansbooksandstuffWhich scene are in the colour comics at the end?
@@breezy3392 It's a short little part of that's taken from one of the extras included. About 8 pages where the two are sharing some snacks, play a ring toss game, and go on a boat ride together.
@@oceansbooksandstuff Aw, I want to see those images
great review! I recently finished this and absolutely loved it!
I still think about it all these years later! - AJ
Kazu’s mother vanishes at the end of Tales from the Cafe and an old man takes her place. Who is he? Did I miss that explanation?
Honestly, I don't think it was revealed yet, otherwise I missed that too. The 4th book is out in English now, though, so maybe it will tell us! I'm going to be picking it up soon.
@@oceansbooksandstuff I assume that's the detective who went in past to gift his deceased wife, and it looks like when he gulped the coffee it was already cold he was
Thank-you
It made me tear up a little at the end with bitter sweet tears :') It's extremely atmospheric and I love this book so much! Thanks for the great review~!
If you're open to it I actually recommend watching the donghua (animated series) first, since it shows the epicness of the novel fully, the drama is good and the actors are amazing don't get me wrong, but the show didn't have enough budget for cg and it really shows, especially since there are supposed to be many effects and fights. The donghua is also shorter so you can watch that quicker than the drama (and it is more faithfull in some aspects to the novel). Would really love to see your reaction to either!
A friend did share with me that the donghua was really good. Do you know where I can find it to watch it?
I am glad you are enjoying it. I think the book-1 cover is actually his past body. and yes, Wei Ying is really a ray of sunshine, it's hard to hate him. And also I don't know if you know but Xiao Xingchen is actually the martial uncle of Wei Wuxian because his mother and Xiao XC have the same teacher. If you finished the novel, you also read Manhua. It is finished. The movies are " the untamed "live-action and " MDZS "Donghua. The untamed ver is censored I would say. they make WWX and LWJ look like they are best friends which is they are lovers in the novel. MDZS is a good Donghua though, even though it is still censored but you can still see the moments. If you enjoy reading MDZS, I recommend the author's other works. MXTX is really popular in danmei world.
Thank you for that info! Yeah I didn't catch that about Xiao Xingchen but that makes sense. I'm definitely considering reading her other works as well.
Also, the character Alice is a nod towards Otsuka’s mom who had dementia as of late. You’ll find pieces of her family’s history all throughout her books. She’s a really cool author!
Oh thanks for that extra fact!
Her other books are much much better. Buddah in the Attic is the precursor to Emperor was Divine, although Emperor was her first novel (and my favorite). I’d totally give her other books a try.
Oh that's good to know. I'll have to add them to my list then!
@@oceansbooksandstuff “Buddah” is written similarly but it’s much more cohesive and the book is only about 130 pages if I remember right. “Emperor” is a whole story with lots of symbols and character perspectives written in 3rd person. Also around 130 pages. I hope you enjoy them!!
@@grayhemphill7856 Thanks! I do enjoy a shorter book sometimes, so I can read more of them!
I hope you see the movie. After seeing the movie, I bought the book. I can give a list of movie(Chinese, Japanese and Korean) that are great. I believe many on the list are also in book form. A must to see is "The Butterfly Lovers" (1994 version). The story may have been brought back to Europe by Marco Polo. Once in Europe, I think Shakespeare may have heard the story and wrote "Romeo and Juliet". Butterfly Lovers will make you laugh and make you cry.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I really want to. I'm trying to watch more movies and shows based on books that I've read. I'll have to look up Butterfly Lovers as well!
This is such a great video idea! I am excited to read it!
Thank you! I'm still getting the hang of it! :P
I wanted to hear all the story 😅 now I want to read the book ❤ Your makeup and blouse matched perfectly with the cover 😊 good choice 🎉
Thank you! Yes, it was a lovely book.
thank you for your sharing!❤
Like the South American soup operas when the good part comes at the last chapter after too many suffering 😅
😆😆😆
Thank you so much! I'm not a native speaker - I'm Arabian- so I read the two first books in Arabic then when I found out there's another book was just dropped out - but in English- I saw it as a good choice to start a new book to improve my English but this feeling disappeared after I couldn't understand what is going on in the novel, I couldn't even know the characters so I felt distracted by that. After I saw your video it finally made sense to me 😁 Thank you so much!
You're welcome! Good luck on improving your English! I think it's great that you pushed yourself!
Loved the review, shared with friends and will find a time to read this
Thank you!
A good day for baking cookies ^~^
Thanks so much! I want to read it still my I’m not in the mindset to not be triggered
I would like to have had the opportunity to read this type of books at primary school
I definitely would have liked them as a kid.
