    I like the shape, size and look better on the cheaper one though however. Aside from the color, though the best one is the burgundy but i dont think its available anymore. It looks kindof like muted Christmas colors. Can’t have it all I guess.

    Having the proper tools will go along way. I realize this video is 14 years old, but now days Amazon has a the proper tools cheap. I dont know about pulling so hard on a thin top like that. Also, get a freaking wrench and you wont have to worry about scratching a nut. Just sayin.

    THANK YOU, Get straight to the point with sound examples. BRAVO!!! (I don't want to watch a 20 minute video about how pots work. I need to remember with sound examples) I'm building my 5th guitar from scratch, and I still can't remember my linear pots for volume, audio taper for tones. haha, My brain just doesn't want to remember. A+numbers usually audio/logarithmic, and B+numbers usually the linear potentiometers. 250k's for single coil pickups[which are naturally more bright], 500k for humbuckers pickups or merged-coils setups[which are naturally more dulled down on brightness]. I'll be back in another 3 years when I build another and forget all this information once again.

    I’d be willing to bet if you put the same speaker in the normal one the majority couldn’t tell the difference in a blind test. If there even was a perceptible one.

    I tried this on my #1 guitar (1980s Strat) that needs a new 3rd fret. It worked! It took me a longer than 15 minutes (more like 45) as I had to go back and re-file and polish the fret several times, but I’m super happy with the result!

    Hi john, i come many years later, but, if your still into that , i advise you to try to build a gibson type varitone.Struggling to make mine, I can tell you 2 thing 1 housing the inductor and switch in a metal casing is crucial , otherwise it hums loudly. 2 its important to get a inductive coil of 7 henries up to 15 henries, it could be the primary or the secondary of a small transformer.The varitone in conjunction with the tone pot create some king of resonance the lower you go on the dial.

    The best polish for painted surfaces is to buff with farrecla grade 10 which is water based and used for polishing car/auto paint with a rotary lambs wool mop using water,once it's cut with farrecla(there are several grades,unless you have any scratches just go for the finest grit 10) after this is washed off dry and then use 3M hand glaze,the end result is amazing. I have a Triumph spitfire that i restored and was given this info by a pro car/auto spray painter the gloss is long lasting to,and cars have a time of it in the outdoors. The farrecla and the 3M hand glaze are not super cheap but not crazy expensive,the farrecla has to be wet buffed so it uses a small amount of cutting fluid,the hand glaze goes a long way too,also it works ultra amazing on guitar bodies. Never ever ever use T-cut,T-cut contains ammonia and dulls paint,it looks good for a little while but oxidizes the paint while farrecla does not,the guy who told me worked for himself but also worked in a shop here in Glasgow(Scotland) that did body repairs and obviously paint for jags and Rolls Royce so the quality had to be in the finished product. I never use anything else now. Also just as i observe a wooden block cut to the inside shape of the enclosure with a pole type handle would help.....just saying. great content .

I'm here to learn about gimp,i make or made tube amps but now due to supplies i'm going in for tube pedals as i can make a ss amp sound like a tube amp,no brainer.

    I did the ground testing and the last thing I suspected was -- the output jack was wired in reverse! Should be -- hot wire to outside (so plug makes hot contact at tip) ground wire to inside (so the lug nut will test positive for grounding). It was the reverse when I got it back from my 'guitar tech'! Thanks for your help!

  • @johnplanetz

    I doubt there will be the necessary voltage on the output of your pedal. Unlike a laptop or computer, a guitar pedal isn't expecting a microphone/headset to be plugged in.

    Do you think this process would work if it is all printed and applied BEFORE drilling holes into enclosure? Long story short - I am going to print the design onto the pedal, and ship them to the pedal maker to then drill the wholes and create the circuits. thoughts?

  • @johnplanetz
    @johnplanetz6 ай бұрын

    I've never tried that, but I guess it should be ok. Usually drilled holes are covered by a nut or bezel. So if the decal is a bit rough around the edge of the drilled hole, you won't see it anyway.

    @@johnplanetz thank you so much for the response. while i have your attention… today I’m spending time at the hardware store gathering all the supplies they did not have the water-based polyurethane, but they did have something similar in spray form. I’m curious if you think multiple layers and coats of this spray…satin water-based coating would work directly on top of the decal.

  • @johnplanetz

    thanks for the info. after a few trials and errors i was able to get my waterslide decal printed, coated with clear layer and removed when dipped in water. now my new issue is that i realized all the 'white' in my design, did not transfer when printing. most printers dont use white ink, but instead let the paper itself be the 'white' part of the design. so now i need to either figure out if i can load white ink into my printer, or if i should just paint the black surface of the pedal white and let dry before applying the decal. its a process - but its fun to learn! @@johnplanetz

  • @johnplanetz
    @johnplanetz6 ай бұрын

    @@jakenewcomb5842 - yeah that's correct. inkjet printers don't print white, so you need to keep that in mind when designing the artwork. I talked about the background color in the previous video in the series: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kWmNx89wqavRhag.html
