Hi, I'm Charlie White. I've been doing DIY for as long as I can remember. I'm on a personal quest to show anyone and everyone, that DIY really is Do-able! I'm self taught and now I'm here to teach you!
QUESTION: How did you finish up the interior sill?

Which Knauf Wool product did you use? I found NATUROLL PRO but it says its designed for rooftop could i use it as well in the partition wall?

Charlie, with respect plasterboard is not a good choice; yes it is breathable, BUT, it is calcium sulphate (gypsum) which, along with the paper face, attracts moisture and holds on to it, worse still it is a great nutrient to support mould growth; two very good reasons for not using plasterboard.

I'm just wondering how you secured the plasterboard to the battens, did you screw through the intello? does this affect the membrane at all? Also, thank you for such an informative video.

Great video - thanks! I'm after a lock with a thumbturn on both sides (rather than a thumbturn and screwdriver slot) to use as a lock to stop dogs opening the door but can be easily opened by humans on either side of the door. Finding it surprisingly hard though - any ideas?

as you know Charlie, 1 job at a time. issues get sorted at the right time and while it's difficult living with issues they can't all be solved at once. that is an amazing garden you have, what a joy it will be when it is sorted. hope the initial work is all done now and you're well on the way to the rest. well done for all your hard work

i would defo put a special primer or waterproof adheasive on everything you show us in this video. all the walls, ceilings, corners etc etc you can buy double green plaster board and make sure to put them in the whole kitchen area and ceiling. why not make the framework out of alluminium? i would NOT take wood at all to frame in that place specialy.. you have a wet room dont use wood to build your frames etc. they make alluminium framing specialy for that reason, to use in wet rooms and for ceilings. the double taping the sides of the insulation is a bit overkill specialy if you use a wooden frame... waste of time and effort imo i would just use gluefoam and fix that kind of insulation plates. they have special lips on them to go over your framework or to overlap to another plate. you see so you would not need the tape what so ever. if you primer the walls make your frame pref allu in wetroom then foam fix your insulation put on your special double water protected plaster board. that should be a solid and efficient and low cost price way of doing it.

So glad you mentioned the awful bloody speed plug AKA helter-skelter. I just moved into a house where the last genius put them in *everywhere*, and none of them have held up. Also not helped by the fact that there's not enough cavity behind the plasterboard so he didn't even manage to get them in fully.

2.81 a metre, ffs I paid around 90€ for about 12 in b&q. A big part of tricks of the trade is knowing where to get proper materials at good prices

Yes as long as it says on the tin you can water it down. Some emulsions can't be thinned. Check out this update vid kzread.info/dash/bejne/nIiezsN6hZS0qrw.htmlsi=4lEUm7A8fKbzvc6J It's much better than the original!

Well I'm going to do my bathtub all over again after a disaster job the first time using just my finger to "smooth" out the silicone. It's water tight but looks ugly as hell. I have the kit to try it this way and practiced on some old scrap wood that I screwed together. Hopefully this time I get a good seal. First time home buyer, I never knew sealing cracks was such an exhausting thing to do the right way.
@CharlieDIYte2 күн бұрын
It's all part of the learning curve mate. Get some silicone remover. I use Multisolve here in the UK because it evaporates without leaving a residue. Never use WD40!!

Hi Charlie.. an update.. the toilet bulkhead in my RV is a vertical and high up horizontal surface. I had taped it up but removed the tape in line with your suggestion. My skill level was insufficient to make a nice tidy job so I am going to re-tape the joins area which does not experience any lying or running water and re caulk with a tidy edge… the slight edge profile is a small price to pay for a cosmetically appealing appearence. Thanks for your advice.
