Wrigley Field not having lights shouldn't be hard to believe. The Friendly Confines lacked lights not because it was somehow 50 years behind the times, but by very deliberate choice. Like fans famously watching games from the rooftops across Waveland Avenue out beyond left field, and the field's ivy-covered outfield brick wall, Wrigley's status as the last Major League park without lights - hosting only afternoon games - was part of the lore of this stadium steeped in tradition, cherished by fans even outside Chicago.

Indians v. Rangers. Fans started showering Cleveland players with food and beer and after the game Ranger manager Billy Martin said something about not being worried about any Indians fans cause they don't have any when Texas next played in Cleveland which inspired Cleveland's owner to have the famous 10c beer night game.

ted had a somewhat caustic mouth, and it didn't win a lot of allies, i think he's the greatest hitter of all time, you give him those 5 years he lost in his prime and i don't think there'd be much of an argument about the greatest hitter being williams.

Far from the best rivalry in sports, And is only the 3rd best in College Football. Hate is not required to make a great rivalry.Alabama Auburn is actually better, higher T V ratings. Both games are just two season ending games state school school, against just another state state school.Who in the real world are no big deal.Nobody cares a rip after football, The biggest rivalry in all of the sports world is Army Navy, both are a MILLION MILES away from state schools. So most players at the ACADEMY'S could maybe be at best 2nd string or 3rd at the state school 4, but NOT a single jock at any top 15 school could even get into the Academy's.Grades,Commitment to serve and die for this country, nut busting academic demands, military training every day, duty every day, your jocks would fail and fall apart faster than Biden did Thursday night. In 10 years in the Army I had the honor of training Cadets at West Point in Warrior Skills. I know the difference.Army navy till this year was a stand alone game seen GLOBALLY,LIVE, and on ships and combat zones radio was the only option, but it was live.I watched live in Vietnam 1970.30300 hours.N.C.O. club. The big 4 are NOT treated to a global audience unless they in Championship game. Regular season ,NOPE,just the facts .Huge money is bet. So is food, beer ,booze, gear, seats on a M.A.C. flight to Hawaii, Australia, Today,s war zone, as in Iraq, no booze is allowed, well maybe for two days Christmas Eve/day and Game Day.And not just football. Lacrosse,Boxing,Wrestling, Rifle, X-Country, Sprint Football, Navy hares ice and snow so they do not have Hockey and Ski Teams.Combat is the absolute ultimate test of courage, will commitment to others, grit ,being a number 1 pick is NOT !What is the percentage of all jocks at the big 4 or at any other college ?university in Big Time Athletics who would die for you me.,the country, people they will never know or even meet.Army Navy it is 100% of the student body. TOP THAT leaf guy. Number 1 not even close!~ Oh one more thing, only Army has Beat Navy their rival on in huge letters painted on every building on post. Campus for civilians. One More item, Beat Navy!

I love Teddy Baseball. Perhaps the greatest hitter of all time. However, nobody knew at the time that he would be the last person to hit over 400. As great an achievement as that was, Bill Terry of the NY Giants had done it in 1930. And there were quite a few 400 hitters before him. However, only one person in the entire history of the game has ever had a hit in over 50 consecutive games. Let alone in 56. That was Joe DiMaggio. Plus DiMaggio was one of the greatest fielders and base runners of his time with a cannon for an arm. So, even though a very strong argument could be made that Ted Williams deserved the MVP, hitting in 56 consecutive games is a greater achievement than hitting over 400. Not to mention the other half of the game that needs to be played. DiMaggio deserved the MVP in in 1941.

Good video, but if you'll allow one honest critique: It was hard for me to keep track of the years/eras during the first 10 minutes because you kinda just mention the year once in an otherwise extremely long sentence of explanation (which is fine as a style, but a few more graphics focusing on the year in question would go a long way). The drama in the events speak for themselves... just give them a chance to do so is all I'm saying. Otherwise great vid! As a young Gen-X, this was a great nostalgia trip! 😀

i grew up in the 60's and as far as i was concerned, and with the kids on my block, Mickey Mantle was the greatest. i was a devout fan during his last years, and pinned my hopes of a continued Yankee dynasty on Bobby Murcer. but it didnt materialize - it must have been tough on Bobby that people expected him to be the "new Mantle", just as it was for Mantle to be the "new Dimaggio". it was an amazing time to watch Boog Powell, Harmon Killebrew, Frank Howard, Al Kaline - and, Mantle topped them all. my yankee and baseball fandom ended with Thurman Munson's passing. somehow, the game to me was never the same.
