  alright so basically, trying to just spawn mario through the regular entrance doesn't actually seem to spawn him, not sure why. so this workaround involves using a second zone with the following things in it: the entrance mario is supposed to spawn into (by default it'll be ID 0), and then i have sprite 9 (one of the duplicate player actors) contained inside a special exit controller, which takes the player to the entrance contained in zone 1 (the playable level). since mario doesn't spawn normally, we use the duplicate player actor to be our mario, and we use the SEC to warp him because the camera is locked if we spawn him directly in zone 1. there's one small issue though, for a split second, we can see zone 2 before we get warped, so i made a custom tileset that's just a pitch black tile, and put that over the 2nd zone on layer 0, and it hides it perfectly. now since i'm fucking awful at explaining things, just gimme a few minutes and i'll send you a level with the setup on discord
