I use mine exclusively for black powder. Somewhere along the line, someone claimed the plastic reservoir can spark and set off black powder but that's really a load of crap, people have tried setting off black powder with stun guns to no effect, the reservoir won't. Anyways, it meters black powder perfectly, the readings are in volume and will throw a perfect charge. You set it to 70gr, you'll get a near perfect throw every time. Usually 2 tenths deviation and as black powder goes, that's perfect. You won't notice that over the chronograph. Makes for charging casings uniform and efficient.
I’m at the moment doing the exactly same job , stripping my old 450 Lyman lube sizer press , which I’ve been given several weeks ago. Very helpful, thank you.
iv been told that you can use 8x56r brass. 2mill short but works fine when ran through a 8x58 die , in these rolling blocks. just make sure you use the proper .323 dia bullets.
Mine has the date 8/87 on it. Yours is older than mine but very similar. Still works great after 36 years.
Could you say au au au one more time
Por la litografía de la caja es entre 1963 y 1970.
The Lyman 55 is one of the great measures. It was an improvement on the Ideal No. 5 and came out after WWII in 1947
if you got to get rid of it ... what i gather is you can have a limited number..im interested

Outstanding, I am lucky enough to have a .300 and .375 H&H, both Pre 64 Model 70's. Excellent rifles. 👌
Yom
Turn that racket off!
Why are you loading 1 round at a time..? Is your feeding system not working..?
Your Lyman 55 is late 50s early 60s vintage. My buddy has one he purchased in 1962 - exactly the same model as yours.
Really kind of a waste they say 20 grains 23 grains . Really maybe this guy does not know what kind of powder he is using we all know there a lot of difference between they powders plus how you are loading the shells as well . So thumbs down for this video
Try 36 grains of HS-6 for 1500fps
Чего руки дрожат? :)
Testa och skjut ur mässingshylsor istället. Det funkar oftast bättre.
I have a 1948 model 70 , it was chambered in 375 h&h ..When new it was sent to Roy Weatherby and re-chambered to 375 Weatherby Magnum .. It has only had a few shots fired thru it....
Absolute classic beauty. I’d love to have one in .375.
Yes, i too would love to know the powder type. 12 GA could use up to 32 grs of HERCO and 25 Grs of Green Dot. I suspect if you did a tighter wad gas seal, and used a roll crimp perhpas you'd have had more consistency. How was the accuracy?
5 minutes with a heat gun and everything would be out and all pieces wiped down
Ditto...... talk about making hard work out of an easy job 😐
ahh what a coward :) LOL he want's to clean it an change the seals afterwards he scrub the original lead colour off the damn thing and I am sure it leaked more badly then before never trust a man with latex gloves on and cheap wrenches :)
I have an old Lyman 55 that my dad used for fifty years or so. I learned to reload with it about 1970, and have used it since it came into my possession a couple of years ago. It is well-used and has missing pieces. Very accurate with pistol powders and serviceable for rifle.
The Hodgdon website has loads for 12 gauge Winchester Compression Formed - AA hulls 2 3/4", WAA2F114 wads, HS-6 powder and a Lee Precision 1oz slug (1500fps). Please don't take this info as gospel and use it, look it up here: www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/shotgun
What that scope say? Ligma? Ligma balls😄
Are you sure it takes 4+1? I thought the extractor couldn't jump the rim on the mauser type actions and that the round has to come from the magazine rather than being able to chamber a +1...
The Model 70 CRFs have always slid over the rim, unlike the mauser.
Grab some 4570 cases and your fl sizer for 8x58rd form and load that is how we danes do it when we dont want to convert old cases to boxer primers and use 8mm mauser bullets sized through a lee sizer if need be
If you use the wrong wad for the shell you are reloading, it will leak pressure. The one piece shells I feel are best (like the Gun Club) as they taper at the bottom and are thicker, so once pressure builds it will help keep the pressure seal with the wad.
For tapered hulls like the REM Gun Club the Winchester white or pink wad will work well with the Lee 7/8 slug.
To bad you have to give up a rifle like that to own another!
What size rings did ya use?
It's a 30mm scope :-)
@@gustavklok8567 I am aware of the scope having a 30mm tube so you would require a set of 30mm rings. However the rings come in different heights (low, medium, high). I am after the height, also just realised I should have worded the question differently lol.
@@HasnainKhan-mp1rk Its a 50mm lens so low is out of the question and I don't think medium would be likely to fit with most brands of rings / rifle combination...
Hello from America what is that you have on your barrel I've seen your groups take that part off that barrel nothing should be touching or mounted but the iron sights on the barrel always shoot new ammo and watch your groups get smaller if it's still shooting the same you guys need a lesson in shooting
I just purchased an old farm rifle Winchester post 64 in 243Win for $290 from interstate. I will clean it up and if it doesn't shoot, it will be rebarrelled to 257Roberts.
They make bullet bullet pullers that will not destroy the bullet
Using the straight walled RIO hulls you want to use wads designed for them. If you use tapered wads like federal or winchester style you will see a decrease in pressure. Maybe try a BPI spitfire or something like that. The spitfires are for straight walled hulls and for 1oz loads. That might be the ticket. Be careful though, might be worth investing in a BPI slug manual. Depending on the combination of hull, wad, powder, and primer you can find yourself in a high pressure situation quickly.
Federal wads are not for tapered hulls. They are for straight wall and Cheddite type hulls.
I will never reload Rio hulls again. At least 1 out of 5 primers fell out of the shell after I crimped and pressed the hull. Never had that problem with any other brand.
Unless you are using RIO primers you will see that. RIOs primers are bigger then even Cheddites. I do use Cheddites in my RIOs but only for the OU and SxS shotguns, they could fall out in the pump or auto loaders causing a jam.
I swage the primer pockets and use Remington STS primers .
You must be a newbie. Not all shotgun primers have the same dimensions. Use Rio or Nobel Sport primers for Rio hulls. No problem.
I purchased my new in 1963. In USA
Great video! I own the actual version and its a pretty reliable powder measure.
crap and worse music
waste of time watching this video
I use these in my ruger sr22 & ruger 10/22 and they always kill a squirrel or ring the gong (AR500) when they go boom regardless of the noise (charge) each one makes....the ones that make the same noise every time are about $50 per 500, these Thunderbolts are $23 per 500!
They never were designed for match accuracy, just cheap fun ammo for lots of shooting fun, nothing else. Sorry you wasted your time Cheers
I have an old Lyman Spartan press and a new TMag 2.I've been looking at a vintage 55 with same box. i love old stuff like this. my question is how accurate does it throw. btw I dig you intro and outro music. love harmonica.
I own 4 of these. They all throw +/- 0.1 grain. I don't use long, extruded powders, so I can't speak to its accuracy with those. Using Benchmark powder, these things are pretty amazing. Same for 'Lil Gun powder which I use for 22 Hornet. I've been setting them up 0.2 grains low, then trickle up to the target. No complaints!
Well look at it like this... they may suck but thunderbolts are good for plinking.
I must have missed the "rebuild" part of the video so I watched it again. Nope. Not there. But I did see two brothers with a death wish reloading badly oxidized cases. Good luck boys. Murphy's Law is about to bite your swedish asses.
