    Gregor, thank you for this video. Clears things up a bit more. I currently have two Quantum 2626. Gregor, have you run into any performance issues with the HD 8 using USB C speed compared to Thunderbolt?

    96khz 32 samples block size? Is that how people really record?

  • @TheJonHolstein
    @TheJonHolsteinКүн бұрын

    No, of course not. Any reasonable answer would include a list of 48KHz as well as several of block sizes. This was just an attempt to pretend the performance is better than it actually is. It is sad to see them do this with the quantum line. They should have launched a new series, as well as updating the quantum thunderbolt line. The old quantums allowed for daisy chaining, to add more channels and had much better latency performance. I get that presonus might feel the need for an USB-c line, since thunderbolt support is a mixed bag on windows computers. This does not have a particularly low latency, despite claims of custom drivers.

  • @bigstewdio
    @bigstewdioКүн бұрын

    I think the latency questions is why have Presonus abandoned the low latency architecture of the original line of Quantum interfaces? My Quantum 2626 has a round trip latency of exactly 1ms at 96khz, 32 samples. Compare that to the 3.28ms of the new Quantum interface in this video and the questions is why have Presonus abandoned the most compelling feature of the Quantum interfaces? Okay, the new ones have better converters (allegedly) and better preamps (allegedly) but you'd expect those on updated model. But speed was the one thing that made the Quantum interfaces so special, and which meant you didn't need any kind of DSP mixer or UC routings. That's what gave the Quantum interfaces and Studio One such a powerful workflow. It's hugely disappointing.

  • @TheJonHolstein
    @TheJonHolsteinКүн бұрын

    Don't forget daisy chaining support of the thunderbolt version. This should not have been called quantum, it should have been a new series, and they should have re-designed the quantum series. The 4848 was really impressive, and priced well below any competitor, even if they would have to increase the price somewhat. Sure they probably did not sell as well as they were hoping, but you have to give the products time, for the reputation to grow.

  • @blindogt
    @blindogtКүн бұрын

    Yeah, I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but honestly this just doesn't sit well. As a PC user, Thunderbolt currently works well for me, and my OG Quantum has been an amazing piece of kit, but I know it's going to be problematic when I need to upgrade my machine and TB4+ will be all that's available on future motherboards. A transition to USB for compatibility's sake is probably a decent move, but when the new model's latency figure is that much higher than the older interface, this fact needs to be readily disclosed. Because it does matter. If it didn't matter then the original Quantum's marketing, "With a barely measurable round trip latency of less than 1 ms*" and even the product line name, which was based specifically on the latency figures being so low, was disingenuous. So, assuming the latency difference does matter, keeping that name, while only disclosing the latency figures now on a boutique KZread channel feels like they had something unpleasant to hide. I love Gregor's videos, I've been a steady Presonus customer for almost 2 decades now, and I want them to succeed, but this stuff should be unobfuscated on the product page so that people know what they're getting, and how to best spend the limited money they have.

  • @bigstewdio
    @bigstewdioКүн бұрын

    @@blindogt pretty sure they had already disclosed latency figures because I commented on the product launch video with Marcus Huyskens (another name you probably know if you've been following Presonus for a while). However, where that video, and to a greater extent this video, irritate me is their attempt to gaslight their customers into thinking that these new interfaces are low latency. They're not. Even for USB, RME are faster and compared to the original Quantum interfaces, which used Thunderbolt, they are in a different league. And the reason it matters is because the workflow that those original Quantum interfaces allowed without the need for any kind of DSP mixer or special routing requires very low latency. However, where this video particularly annoys me is using a latency figure based on a 96Khz sample rate which is going to be about half the latency you get with 48Khz. That is deliberately misleading because most latency figures are given at 48Khz. It's not a rule, but that's the default and I can't remember any interface video leading with a number based on 96Khz. I think Gregor is a good guy, and his tips and tricks over the years have been invaluable, so he knows exactly the trick he's trying to pull here and I bet he hates himself for it.

    Good evening, Tobi I noticed something with my uc surface PC app; the "pre" knob used to be at the top left of the uc surface control app, together with the HPF.... but recently, it does not appear. I have tried installing different versions up to version 3... but still, the "PRE" knob does not show. I installed Version 4 but could not scan the Studiolive 32AI, so I reinstalled the V3. Please, I need help and guidance from the legendary Presonus. Thanks for your assistance. Tellson, Nigeria

    my quantum es4 switches outputs on its own. how do i stop it from doing that? it sounds great but has so far been an unreliable piece of equipment. occasionally it seizes working after waking the computer up from a sleep. all inputs and outputs are available but no audio on pc. biggest issue by far is the outputs switching while we're in the middle of rehearsing. well turn on A&B by pressing the main button but occasionally while no one is near the interface, it will cut out on output B. sometimes it comes back in a few seconds later sometimes not. sometimes it's multiple times at once sometimes it's only once. it happens more often than not but there have been a few days it didn't happen. sometimes we don't notice until reviewing the recording because we have iems in. this is very frustrating please help presonus

    I don't see a solution about how to get rid of the chain link icon without bouncing to another track, which also bakes in any FX you might have on that track if you don't think to turn them off before bouncing. Is there another easier way to get rid of it? Figured that would've been addressed in this video!

    My frustration with importing direct from my Song Page was the program defaults to 5 minutes at the start of my Song. I record 30 minute performances with 5 - 6 songs and only want to master one of them. The solution is to use START and END markers for those clips or export a mix down.

All of my songs on Soundcloud are quiet, so I did some exports to my desktop at -24 lufs, -14 lufs, and -2 lufs.. Then I pulled those wav files back into studio one. All 3 files are exactly the same!! When I use the mixdown tool from the song page, they export at different levels, as expected. Sooooo, what gives???
