Hey y'all! I'm Sojourner White - a remote social worker, award-winning travel journalist, and train travel queen. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin I have been a digital nomad, called Spain home as a study abroad student turned English teacher with the Fulbright Program, and spent a summer in Germany as an International Social Work graduate student intern. But now, through my platform Sojournies, I help 9-5ers fulfill their career goals and bucket list dreams to bask in freedom and flexibility outside the office.
On my channel, we talk about everything from train travel and Black solo female travel to remote work, hostels, social work, and balancing travel with a 9-5!

🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾CONGRATULATIONS on your first big, international speaking engagement!!! I’m so inspired to achieve personal goals that I gave up on out of fear!❤
Girl, the Canadian is $3000 in a bunk... but worth every penny!! (and huge discounts if you buy your tickets on Tuesdays!) The lower bunks have a window and are super comfy and you have access to the shower, and the food (3 meals a day plus various surprises, snacks, champagne, bites fresh off the oven...) is like a 5 star restaurant...
I'd say taking the Canadian in winter, Toronto to Vancouver (Westbound) is BREATHTAKING (and also cheaper). Every season is amazing on that route but summer is definitely crowded.
My No.1 tip is always pack a shawl or sweater even in J:uly because I love to stay up in the dome car at night and there is always some wind coming in in tiny joints in the windows!
Your outfit is fabulous!! (haha sorry for the multiple comments 😊)
In Canada and Western Canada especially, there are graves of Asian people who built the railroad beside the railway, so we have that kind of history here too. My grandfather was a train conductor (Montreal-Gaspé), my dad cleared up rocks off the tracks in BC and Alberta, and I worked on the Canadian between Winnipeg & Vancouver 🚂
Yasss! I’m so happy for you! 🥹 What you are doing is truly inspiring. Keep going on adventures and pursuing your passion. The memories and artifacts are worth it!❤️
OMG, it IS a train sound in your intro! Gurl, I used to be a train attendant on the Canadian for Via Rail and I have like 57 train travel videos on my channel LOL 😆Like minded!!! ❤
Yasss a like minded person. Vitamin water in champagne flutes for the win in a 'bougie' Montreal loft with my cat in 2022 : kzread.info/dash/bejne/dY2srtaIYc2bXbA.html
I gotta try that Bedroom option just for the experience! 😂 I’m sure the noise of the tracks will help.. 😉
I am so proud of you. You can do anything. Why not go big and start your own travel service??? You can specialize in train travel all over the world. You can do it. I have faith that you will.😊
You are right to be proud of your accomplishments! You are so engaging from the first video I saw of yours I instantly followed. You are truly in your element.
W!
Sojourner, you are relatable, charismatic, introspective, knowledgeable and so, so genuine. You look absolutely natural on film and on stage. Insisting on representing as your authentic self is truly your superpower. 😘 You are an overcomer, natural teacher and great role model. Congratulations on this awesome milestone‼️ Your calling is bright and exploding with possibility‼️
Hey y'all! Summer has been in FULL swing with so many fun train adventures that I'm excited to share. But until then - let's go back to Mexico. I had my first international speaking engagement and the week was one to remember. This vlog got a bit more personal but I hope you enjoy! And tell me what you think below :)
It’s not strength per se, it’s cardio and endurance. Something power lifters don’t tend to do.
Lol I know
@@Sojournies that’s good, I was more just clarifying it for anyone who didn’t. Imo cardio is way harder than strength training, so good work 💪
Wonderful video.. is there any link to book that experience. Planning to do a 1 day trip to huachina from Lima is it possible?
yes!! be proud of yourself
Thank you! It took awhile to get here 😂
Is this on the USA or Canada side of the Falls?
Beautiful..
If you come to live in Mexico. As long as you stop calling yourselves expats and identify correctly as immigrants, pay taxes, learn the language and stop trying to mute the culture (see the puerto vallarta incident). I have no issue with it as a Mexican.
Relatable 😂
Haha!
appreciate your content!
Thank you for introducing us to the foods that's available in Toronto Canada. Also that is black owned. Have you ever been to the Cabana? which is the first week of August in Toronto it's fantastic. It's a celebration of the Caribbean nations.
Thank you so much for this. I needed it when I go in December ❤
Thank you definitely needed this very interested 😃
I love my solo date just me only
Love ur hair, wish I could have hair like that ❤️ (I’m white, for context)
This is quite useful. 👍🏻 Would love to learn of the criteria you used to determine your safety score. 😊
Yassssss...went from NYC (by way of CT) to Miami... such a fun trip.
I love what you are doing. I love a nice train ride. Enjoy be safe.
you are living your i love seeing that because I'm only existing
Love it! I'm a solo traveler going to Kenya in May. Taking pictures on a Safari in Africa has been at the top of my bucket list forever. It's so nice to see a Safari video from someone that looks like me..a black female. Love it!!!
I absolutely loved the vlog! I’m glad you enjoyed yourself and you’ve inspired me to look into it. Also it was such a pleasant surprise to see another one of my faves, Anila from feed the Malik, on here lol.
It's not worth it as a person of color. Social work practices are deep rooted in colonialism / white supremacy. The work environments are toxic. And the pay is abysmal even though we do 4-5 jobs under one title.
😂😂😂
I would love to do that Pacific Northwest train ride… Absolutely Gorgeous 🚂 Thankyou for sharing your experiences & these videos. I’m learning a lot 🙂
Love this! How did you get around once there? Did you use Uber?
I really love cities as well! (I was born in the islands so when I want a beautiful beach I go home to JA lol) but you are spot on with these cities loved them for these reasons. I would added Budapest too. incredible architecture, food, spas museums and nightlife.
Do you have group trips with your followers?
I'm not one of those funny women, but that lipstick is poppin❤❤❤❤
Expat = White. Immigrant = non white/ muslim
So cool 😎
so happy i just gound your content! CRAZY wholesome🫶🏼🫶🏼 ❤from NY
Great video!!
I prefer the countryside over the beaches and towns. I'm a country bumpkin to the core.
I do like the country too! It's very peaceful
London has good/great ethic food. Traditional British food is awful, just awful
A Nomad that's it!
They just love to hate on London and stick with the old stereo types that our food is bad. I’m a Londoner and yes some of our “traditional foods” are questionable but overall the food scene is pretty good.
And every country has questionable cuisine because what is "normal" changes for everyone haha so I agree!
UPDATE: people have said they've traveled with enhanced IDs to Niagara Falls (which they said includes REAL IDs too) - so it is possible without a passport! You can also use a passport card
