So, do avocados in plantations need some shade tree above it, like what is done with cacao?
In San Diego the ravaneas always seem like the crown is burned and struggling for whatever reason but they seem to still live but don't look that great. Every once in a while you will see one that looks better than others. There is a couple very tall ones at some old estates and both of them the crown looks like hell. I just got to the end of the video and see you explained the reason why which makes sense.
Are you able to grow King palms in Lafayette?
Thanks for the reminder, Gary. For young avocado trees some shade cloth & structure to hold it,, might be a good idea also.
Careful picking those up. I've had an "emergency" on the road and had to wipe my a$$ with an old shirt.
Yea, Baby! Just what you need on the fourth when waiting for the fire works to start in San Francisco. That and a guard dog. 😊
😂 , happy 4th
Loves LA? Looks like crap, being from Miami.
So this palm tree doesn’t will grow in north California zone 9?
Okay, the white "paint" was added to deflect the intense heat of the sun literally cooking the young tree to death.
Why is he not using a battery operated skillsaw? Much easier and safer?
"hah-cah-rahn-DAH"
And it is still beautuful
My mother passed away u. 2017 her saga pakn has not been watwrwd but anything else sub 4:58
When do you plant it please
Is it sun burning?
How is a tree that is surrounded by concrete and asphalt thriving like that? Am I wasting my time mulching, fertilizing, and watering my avocado tree?
It is a bit of a freak of nature.
I'd plant trachycarpus fortunei in those circular tree holes around the pool.
Best time to paint your tree is yesterday... I just painted my trees today and well I was a day late. Sadness...
No sure what you're trying to tell us here, Gary ......just kidding, got the message loud and clear. Will put sunscreen on my new avo trees asap.
Is it possible to spray this on? Wouldn't the clay clog the pump?
Lol😂🎉
Love this channel. Never change, Gary
I enjoy the video! You have her contact information? Thanks so much
If you give me yours I will forward to her.
Just wonder if you got my contact information? Thanks!😊
God ✝️ Bless you ✝️✝️ for saving this creature.
Thank you.
. Hey Gary, I've been meaning to ask you this question, but now I have a bridge with this video. I usually associate the jacaranda tree with southern California, which leads me to ask: What is the variety of palm that is in front of The Brady Bunch house? Apparently when HGTV bought the house a few years ago and remodeled it to look like the opening credits of the TV show, the house as it stood didn't have the palm, but a neighbor nearby had one so they bought it from them. Curious to know what kind it is. The tree is right next to the front door at the entrance to the house.

@@ScaryHairyGaryThanks Gary - I knew you'd know what that plant was.
You know SOME real snake people may all ways find crap like this. Your not a handler and you do not know what you are speaking about! WOW!
Sorry for saving him.
That ending was too epic! did he pay extra for the show!?
No, he paid for the palms but got the show for free.
My mom lives in san jose and has an avocado tree. The tree loves the weather.. Its in the central valley where you need to watch out. The extreme heat will cook them really fast
So true.
my pinkerton is 6 feet tall right now.. i pinched the top to promote lateral growth to be more like a bush. i want mine to be a bush, SHOULD I CUT the tree in HALF?
I had those press-on baseboards in the garage. Came out one morning and it had come off the wall and a small skink was stuck in the adhesive. I freed it and took it to Lindsey Wildlife Museum so they could remove the adhesive.
You crack me up Gary! I hope you get to propagate this amazing “ half hass” tree! 😎
This is nice. I want something shady to plant between my house and neighbors but have a septic system and don't want trees with invasive roots. Will have to look these up to get more info but I love the tropical look. I'm in Florida. Thanks!
You crack me up with your humor haha
Any particular variety of Mamey that would be best suited for hot dry growing conditions?
Nice I also have this one
I agreed. He need to remove the shade cloth. I use to live & work in Los Gatos, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Campbell, San Jose for twenty plus years. I know the bay areas weather very well. Some one is giving bad advice on the shade cloth.😂 for $$$$ He must be a newcomer with new money.
My Longan & Lychee is producing fruit in Zone 8b West of Paso Robles Ca. elevation 2000. Waiting for the fruit to get bigger before I do a video on it. Choquette, Lamp Hass, Bacon, Wurtz, Nabal, Lamp Hass, Gwen, Jan Boyce, Queen, Sir Prize, GEM, Reed, Edranal, Carmen, and Don Gillogly is loaded with fruits. My tree is still young. Some of avocados trees the fruit is getting bigger. Lamb Hass, Hass, Fuerte, Bacon, Wurtz, all of those varieties is producing mature fruits on my trees. Feb.25-2023 we had snow that lasted for three days. None of my trees die or burn. Including newly planted avocado trees without protection. I have video to prove it.
This would be fun to see you someday.
Hi Gary - I am thinking about planting a couple of Mamey Sapote trees in my yard. I live in Zone 10b in the San Fernando Valley in LA County. It is fairly dry and gets into the 100's regularly during the summer, so it's not Florida-like conditions. Do you think it would work, and if so, do you recommend a particular variety? Thanks
Yes, absolutely
The amazing avocado tree of Lamorinda!
Ok next time just use olive oil and the animal will come right off.
Dang, I wish I knew that before spending a solid half an hour tediously trying to save that little guy. Thanks for the advice.
Any Idea on why my bacon avocado fruit doesn’t get to a normal size? They grow about 3 to 4 oz at the most.
Awesome bro !!!
Yeah I noticed my avocado tree is loaded this year hopefully it doesn’t drop to many!
I am afraid that these trees will hold too many and get completely stressed out from it
@@ScaryHairyGary If a certain quantity are strategically culled, it might reduce the stress as you say, and lessen the trees tendency to alternate bear fruit (annually) - thus increasing the chances of bearing fruit next year. It might be worth a try.
I have noticed tons of avocados on all the trees in my hood ✌️
Seems universal this year like no other year before
Hopefully the tree will keep on chugging along and keep producing fruits
I hope so!
I wish you would make an effort to speak clearly. One third through the video and I still don't know what it is about. I'm concerned if it's bad news because I have 9 avocado trees.
I guess you can blame the teachers in my special speech class for failing both of us
Bone apple tea
Apocalypse is a word that means "the end of the world" - or something so destructive it seems like the world has ended, like the event of a major earthquake. I think u mean cornucopia or plethora
No, I mean, avocado fruitcapalypse because the worst thing that can happen for the health of an avocado tree is to have too much fruit on it and have all the energy go to the fruit to the detriment of the tree. I’ve never seen more fruit on trees this year, so I worry that the trees will suffer severely from it. Time will tell
Half Hass - that's a great name for it! 🤣🤣🤣
That’s a good, really funny, and memorable! 😂 lol
If you water the trunk like this long-term, would it not rot the trunk?
Maybe if you constantly watered it and kept it wet, but if it dries out regularly, I don’t think it would be a problem
