One of my favorite things in this movie (besides Themberchaud the Chonky Dragon, of course) is that Holga and Edgin have a long-standing, "life partners" kind of relationship with one another, but it's a completely platonic one, despite them both being single and having compatible orientations. It's so rare to see that in fiction, especially for main characters, and so rewarding when it's done this well.
Aries is played by Adam Copeland (Professional wrestler who goes by the name Edge).
When you walk on the grounds of Tyne Cot cemetery or Normandy America cemetery or any war cemetery from either first or second World War and you see the names and ages of those who died you freeze up. Doesn't matter if they're Belgian, British, French, American, or even Germans... they were so young, and to realize they died at the same age i am now is sad. So we can only do as much as remember and respect them with everything we have!
I love your colorful "What in the ______"s
So I dont know if someone else metions this, and its only BAIRLY touch on before the show ends, but the Shepard used to be alliance black ops.....the type of person who officially doesn't exist. its only expanded on in the published media (books/comics). Just though I would put you out of your misery reg that now
I love they got Jessica Parker Kennedy (Max from Black Sails, Nora Allen from The Flash) for Medusa and LMM as Hermes!
I'm new to your channel and i love "Firefly". However i have NO respect for religion so i am out.
Yes, we all love Kaylee.
Meh. "Outlaw Josey Wales in SPAAAAAACCCCCEEEE!!!" without one iota of originality or hint of science. I said hard pass at the time and it hasn't gotten any better over the years.
I love the references in the comments. Here's one: The "hold this" joke they pull multiple times, there is usually one person in the part that has a magic item called a Bag of Holding. It can hold a shed's worth of stuff in it and retains the same size and weight of a normal empty sack.
Oh my god that Hamilton cut in. I love you and/or your editor.
This is my unpopular opinion, but I'm being absolutely truthful. This version is more true to the book by miles, but the original movie actors are just better. I like both versions for what they are. The boy who plays Percy in this one has the best potential to be a great actor when he gets older for the kids cast. Basically I like this writing and production better but I like the acting in the original better.
Trivia here. Did you know that the soldier shooting the surrendering Germans is Tom Hanks? Now you know.
Diehard was a Christmas movie, and Violent Night is what happens if Christmas was a Diehard movie. they had basically a trailer for this movie in Scrooged.
this was the first movie I went out to see in like 5 years, and the only one I've gone out to see since.
Ok I'm officially in love.
Fun fact: The bottom half of Kaylee's dress was made from costume designer Shawna Trpcic (Who we sadly lost last Oct. RIP) wedding dress.
I do agree, as does most of EVERYONE ELSE EVERYWHERE. "Short Round" made the movie. This movie's ONLY saving grace. They went too far to the disgusting (the dinner scene, the bugs, etc.). This movie didn't even have any real scares or shocks, just the disgusting. But, at least, Indie was a little more directly involved in the outcome this time. I'm sure, after seeing them now, you have probably figured out (possibly) the likely reason your folks didn't introduce you to the first two movies as a child. As for completing the series: I watched "The Crystal Skull" to that end. I had never watched the (VERY short lived) TV series "The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones", so I sought to continue the journey that way. Made it all the way through the film (through sheer stubbornness) and COMPLETELY swore off the franchise. Have not, will not, and don't wanna see "Dial of Destiny", which I honestly hate saying as I have pretty much liked most anything Harrison Ford has done. But I DO understand the need to see THE FULL story, if only to say that you have. Maybe one day I'll break down and see "Dial of Destiny". Perhaps (currently NOT EVEN on my "to do" list).
I hope you eventually react to the movie "Serenity" after you watch this series. Summer Glau's character River is a programmed killing machine. She is so badazz. You will learn about it as you watch the TV series and it all culminates in the movie.
I have a set of Firefly playing cards with chores scattered on them.
The camera work is superb and underappreciated. Glad you picked up on it. Everything about this series is so damned good.
21:25 "I'm not gonna say it, I'm not gonna say it..." No, but you already THOUGHT it! LOL
The one half they had was from the burn on his hand, but as Indy was the one who stopped them from getting the original artifact in the bar, if he had not been there they would have dug in the right place since they would have had access to both sides of the medallion. I wouldn't call it a plot hole or it making him irellevant though, a big part of the story is good and evil and the fight between them. Plus if Indy hadn't been there the Ark would have been left at the ritualsite to be picked up by nazi's who came to investigate why the camp went silent or potentially it would end up being undiscovered again for a long long time. I think it's interesting how you notice so many of the behind the scenes bits of the film that sometimes it seems you miss or forget parts of the actual story unfolding. It's the difference between how someone with knowledge and training view a film versus a casual viewer who gets more into the story, but misses all the cool camera and other filming tricks.
It's a very good adaptation. Good D&D is a creating collaborative stories using a rules system that helps define how the setting works. Compare this to something else modern based on D&D, "The Legend of Vox Machina" which is an adaptation of Critical Role's first campaign table-top stream. (Some folks have already done stream-to-animated side-by-sides.) Season three is coming out soon with a new second series under production from their second campaign The Mighty Nine.
What I suggest as a folow up to this movie that every reactor see is the Sci-fi channel series Warehouse 13 (July 7, 2009, to May 19, 2014)(65 episodes) Described as "part The X-Files, part Raiders of the Lost Ark and part Moonlighting"
One of us! One of us! We got a new Browncoat folks, and she is gorram shiny! :D Welcome to the club Jacqui!
I never knew much about this show when it first came out and didn't watch, and I'm glad I didn't so I could experience it for the first time in the proper order, you know, the one that actually makes sense unlike how Fox aired it where characters and events are out of order. gheesh. I love how the Serenity movie books ends the series and compliments the 1st episode so well. I need to rewatch these every few years as I find myself forgetting about some of the details, so I still get that shock factor at times.
If you ever watch the TV show "Castle", you'll find that Nathan Fillion drops lots of Firefly references. Oddly enough, I saw Castle before I ever saw Firefly.
Shiny!
Well terrible persons are the funniest ones... well at least if it's the right kind of terrible. You know what I mean.
Regarding the episodes. Fox showed them in the wrong order. They made MANY errors, showing it at a bad time on a bad day and failing to publicise it in any meaningful manner. Most people weren't aware it even existed, so not surprisingly the ratings weren't good. Its almost as as if Fox didn't WANT the series to be a success. The few people lucky enough to actually know it existed and see it loved it with a passion - despite Fox being erratic with the episode order. We can only wish it had gone to a COMPETENT company rather than Fox.
With all the cattle I wonder who has to clean up? Hopefully there's heavy duty space-age Roombas 500+ years in the future!
The guy who played Jayne was also in the show called Chuck, though more like an ISTJ there while an ISTP here. It'll be interesting to see what you think of the ESTP character Saffron.
He was fighting the Alliance. His side pulled out of the world where Serenity Valley was when it seemed they couldn't win. As to the language, it is Chinese. And when they need to swear they use it. This was their way of getting around the censors.
It's fantastic to see another fan come into the fold. :) I describe the series as a space western, action adventure, comedy series. Welp. It's time to have another Firefly marathon.
Only discovered you a couple of hours ago. Already subscribed and considering patreon. You're just smart and funny and it's interesting to see a film student's insights as I've done some short film work myself (in addition to many years local TV work) Even got brought in for a week as a extra editing assistant on a film Harald Zwart made locally when they got a bit behind schedule Think I'll watch you react to something other than firefly now to get a wider impression of you.
Now watch a good dnd adaptation. The legend of Vox Machina
The morons at the TV studio though we were too dumb to understand the original pilot, so they switched the order of the episodes. They seemed determined to ensure this show didn't succeed but it was amazing anyway.
Welcome to the browncoats!
Can't wait to see what happens when she sees, Independence Day 🙂 " Stupid yokels don't know a transport ship. Don't have no guns on it"
Disagree with Kaylee going for confusion as a tactic. It's deflection to talking about technical ship stuff, because that's how she views the world. I fully believe she means what she's saying about the cruiser's design being worse than Serenity's. The *intent* isn't to confuse, it's to talk about things she can speak confidently about with less risk of getting tripped up by a question because she's on her home turf.
A finely tuned episode, others and crew interactions. The genre bending in this series is top level. All the best. Cheers.
I'd like to see your reaction to the movie after you watch the full series
if you can do something your enemy can't...find a way to take advantage.
Jumping in to say that the dress Inara wears to the ball was costume designer Shawna Trpcic's wedding dress. The show had an incredibly tight turnaround and an even tighter budget. She told me she raided her own wardrobe wherever she was able to for Inara, because she was the only character who had multiple outfits per episode.
17:27 a quick demonstration of the correct way to 'not play'. :)
hope she watches rest of the series
Thanks!
I'm glad you are enjoying the series. When you get to The Message keep in mind the cast knew that there was no second season.
I've been meaning to do an essay on this, but whatever. Forget the 6 years... in that moment where Mal has been left in Serenity valley, and Bendes is gets shot next to him ... he got shot. The rest of the series is him dying and his brain phantasizing about what might have been.
