Just to clarify something: Hades is not the god of death (the “Grim Reaper”). The god of death is Thanatos. Hades is the god of the Underworld, the ruler of the dead. It’s a really common misconception though, so don’t worry about it
@mrs.manrique7411
6 ай бұрын
I wasn’t going to say this because she shouldn’t be given any clues until the end. Also, the Grim Reaper is heavily modeled after the main villain of the entire series…….only partially on Thanatos. Before there were ticking clocks there were sand-filled time-turners in the images of the Grim Reaper.

Actually *pushes up anime glasses* Thanatos is the god of peaceful death. The Keres, the sisters of Thanatos (sometimes simplified as a single goddess Ker), are the goddesses of violent death. Also in some interpretations Hermes also helps deliver souls to the Underworld, which is another reason why he knows about its various entrances.

Aaaand Hades is both god of "hell", "limbo" and "heaven", not with this names and concepts, but after the cristianism takes his dimension the people villanized Hades as some type of demon.
Re: Percabeth being an incredibly slow burn - In one book, Percy meets Aphrodite. Is explicitly told that people perceive her according to their desires. CONSCIOUSLY NOTES THAT SHE LOOKS LIKE ANNABETH. And then proceeds to not think about that for like two more years. Percabeth might as well be that one town where the coal veins underneath have been smoldering for like 30 years..

At first, I was so taken aback that Lin Manuel Miranda was playing Hermes. I mean, this guy is everywhere I turn, honestly. But, after watching the first episode he appears in this episode, he really has the mischievous glint in his eyes. And the little quip on his grin, like he's up to something. That is very much Hermes because he is a trickster God. He plays pranks on the other gods. So does almost everybody in the Hermes cabin at Camp Halfblood. They also like to steal stuff, too. So, I love Lin Manuel Miranda's portrayal of Hermes! I also want to point out that most casinos don't have clocks, so to keep guests to stay longer.

I find it endlessly hilarious that they threw that scene with his principal in there with no context 😂 demigods do dream about things are happening or might happen in the future, but they're still human so their dreams are still susceptible to wacky dream shit. He doesn't like his principal, so the person in his dream just happened to look like him lmao

Thank you for clarifying 😂 I was so confused!
one of the good things about the percabeth slowburn taking place when they’re middle grade/high school age is that they perfectly encapsulate the awkward first crush/first love experience. and another great thing about their eventual romantic relationship is how important and vital their friendship is first. like they’re best friends before they’re anything else, and i love that about them so much. it’s just such a beautiful, pure, genuine relationship throughout the whole series, and i love how much we’re seeing it from the start in the show.
That wasn't actually his principal. That was the voice Percy's been hearing throughout the show; he just LOOKED like the principal because it's Percy's dream and that's how he's processing it. I've seen theories that Percy sees the principal's office because that's where Grover threw him under the bus in the first episode, and Percy's still worried about being betrayed.

I love how they feel it’s a good idea to have Percy, the New Yorker, to be the one behind the wheel. I know Grover was borderline high so he couldn’t do it, and Annabeth has spent half her life at Camp so she doesn’t have as much experience with vehicles as Percy (also she’s the shortest so she’d have the most difficulty reaching the pedals, but she’s smart that’s a temporary problem), but I still trust Annabeth behind the wheel more than the person who lives in the city where inhabitants famously don’t drive.

This video and comment section are really healing my heart after the larger-fandoms response to episode 6. I really loved it, but there were lots of changes from the book, and that made a lot of people upset. But i think all the changes are well planned and exciting- i had no clue what was going to happen this episode, and i reread the Lightning Thief 2 months ago! Theyre giving Grover so much more to do, and im living for it. Aryan is an amazing actor (and obviously so are Leah and Walker, they make the show so good)
You theorizing about who the lightning thief is reminds me so much of when I first read the book, it’s a great mystery and I’m looking forward to the reveal at the end

Agreed, I like that they are slowly giving us more info about Luke and his family, rather than waiting so many books and doing it all at once.
No you're right, that is the principal, or at least the same actor. But in the dream it's not _literally_ Percy's ex principal, that's just how Percy's brain framed what was happening, him sort of eavesdropping on a conversation. It's still the same person that's been speaking to him in his dreams from the beginning.
Wow, they added a lot of really cool plot stuff to this episode. In the book, they came to the Lotus Casino just looking for a place to spend the night and got trapped for several days. I love the addition they made of looking for Hermes there, as well as Grover's side quest with Augustus. It adds so much intrigue and stakes. The car scene was a joyride too (hehe). They really had a lot of fun spicing up the original plot. And here's a twist! In the book, they exited the casino with like, about a day left until the deadline. So they were up against the wire but not past it yet. I love the decision to change that. It adds so much tension and fear to the finale of the season. I can't wait to see where they take us next!!!
I've never related to a character more than when Percy looks terrified at the multi-curve in the parking garage 😂

All the book readers are freaking out because they didn't miss the summer solstice in the books, so we're in undiscovered territory now!
I'll just say that there's hardly any 100% villain in PJO and its sequels. Imo not even Percy is a perfect flawless hero, he does make mistakes sometimes that could be huge if not for someone else doing what's right. I'm really excited for the future developments of all characters presented so far (main trio, the gods and especially Hermes, Ares, Clarisse, Luke etc), as well as gods and kids we haven't even met yet. I guess this ambiguity is what always made greek myths so interesting. Gods and mortals, both imperfect, both thinking they're in the right always. Thankfully Rick Riordan navigates and explores that with excellence 😊❤ hope you're prepared for the last two episodes!

Jacqui, I like your logic and the things that you're picking up on when it comes to "being betrayed by the one who calls him friend." I'm not saying that you're right, but I like the fact that you're paying attention to details. Yes, please read the books when you get the chance. The "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" books are not all that long but they're a good read and I really like how the author Rick Riordan has explained how the Greek Gods are still around and everything. Just to let you know, there are 5 books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I will say that you are noticing certain details that I most definitely did not the first time I read the books so good on you! When they go to the lotus casino was one of my favorite chapters to read growing up so I've been looking forward to this episode since the beginning! I do think they adapted it to the screen fairly well, though they made one pretty big change that I am still not sure how I feel about. In the book, our trio is not aware of what the lotus casino's true purpose is when they enter so they all end up in the trance for a period of time without realizing it and have to figure out how to escape. I would like to know what the behind-the-scenes reason was for making that alteration. Keep up the great reactions!

WELCOME TO THE FANDOM!! So, I have 2 theories about why they are not casting anyone big for the gods' roles. Theory 1: Budget. They wanna spend as much as they can on the magical scenes, and trust me, there is a lot to come. Theory 2: There are still A TON of people to show up, from gods to monsters, to (spoilers!), etc, and they want to keep the casting open to when those characters are due on the show. Personally, I like that they are not casting anyone that big to be on the show, that way they don't take the spotlight from the kids - it is their break after all.
*some book spoilers for lightning thief but not on ep.7/8 stuff* 've been reading the chapters of book 1 for the first time after every episode and its so much fun and would recommend it even if anyone rewatches the show later and then reads after every ep (for me rn it also helps with the week long wait), it's interesting to see the changes the show is making and I appreciate both mediums on a different level. I appreciate the book for making me laugh a lot, and get a bit more glimpses into Percy's head, his humor (and dreams). But honestly 9 out of 10 times I've just loved what Rick has done with the show, I love the way percabeth is portrayed - i love the serious tone like the emotional scene after the chair in ep.5. In general the changes in the love tunnel part I'm in love with, same with ep.4 the arch and percy jumping in to handle it instead of annabeth (rather than the book where annabeth and grover aren't even still on the top floor once the chimera comes). Whilst I love the dynamics in the book too, annabeth and percy still have very little serious bonding moments, more so just their bickering until much later in the book. The series has therefore honestly made me connect to especially grover and annabeth way quicker (however I do like annabeths love for architecture in the book). The series is doing so much right, and the serious tone also makes it so that new fans take this story more seriously rather than the risk that some scenes may get made fun of (which do work in book-form). I can't wait to see what the book and series have in store for the last two episodes.
Hades was the "Principal" but Percy just saw him as the Principal just like he saw the Orical as his step-father. This is because he doesn't know how Hades looks like so his brain just sees Hades as the most recognizable character he knows and since his Principal expelled him from school, he associates Hades as his Principal. This is just as he saw the Orical since he sees his step-father as scary.
Ah I got so excited seeing this recommendation pop up on my feed! And Becky Riordan liked my reply thread to her about what post-show pods and talk-backs I like to watch 🤭
As always, loving your reactions to this! The books are such fun reads and only take like 5-6 hours per book
My dad is actually reading The Lightning Thief for the first time right now. My dad reads more than I do. And they are very biased against Hades because he is different and he is the god of the Underworld. They also are biased with their own kind by too much into power and glory. I'm not big on shipping (either way) but I'm pretty sure "Percybeth" would violate the cardinal rule of mixing the names. 😅 22:20 Not to rain on your parade (because the reasoning has merit) but I think you might be too literal. Percy just rationalized that Anabeth wouldn't think of him as a friend and Grover would continue being his protector, so at least they'd have a shot. Strictly speaking, the person who betrays him on the quest might not be the thief, just like the quest itself probably isn't "what matters most".
I'd say maybe reading the first book after the first season, and recording your thoughts. I'd love to see how someone who started with the show feels about the book.
Definitely read book one after the series ends. Then, rewatch. The Audible is a great addition if you get the Kindle.
about the Percabeth Ship, Ive been reading the series forever so i dont see them the same way someone new to the story with the show would.
I love your reactions!! They’re hilarious!! And just WHO THOUGHT IT WAS OKAY FOR A TWELVE YEAR OLD KID TO DRIVE?!? Lol 😂

In the book they actually make it just in time. I'm not quite sure which I like better, I guess it depends on future seasons.
You can here in casino some where,(nico)saying binca binca
It’s really weird to hear you say Lin Manuel is the biggest name actor so far. I’ve literally never heard his name before, or seen his face, until we saw him delivering Medusa’s head. I’ve seen both Jason Mantzoukas and Timothy Omundson in lots of shows/movies and recognized them both right away (I started screaming when I heard Timothy’s voice in the show and didn’t stop until his scene was over), but when I saw Hermes I was like “that’s just some random dude”. Really seems like you’re giving Hamilton a lot more weight than shows/movies like Psych (8 seasons & 3+ movies), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Good Place, John Wick 3, Community, Supernatural, Criminal Minds, Mission Impossible 3, and Starship Troopers. Maybe it’s just me tho
Not really a spoiler, just a change from the book, but they actually didn't miss the solstice deadline in the book. imo knowing how everything turns out it's a better change.
While I generally can't stand LMM I was pleasantly surprised by this episode
My first watch of this episode I was rather disapointed, I can't lie. The book just had a big fun mystique surrounding the casino that the show leaves out for the most part. But the more I've had time for the episode to ruminate, the more I've enjoyed it. Still my least favorite episode if I had to rank them, but that doesn't mean it's bad and I still enjoyed it.

Yeah, I'm kind of on the fence with this episode. On the one hand, I would have liked to see the slow psychological horror of them figuring out the casino is a trap. On the other hand, I LOVED the driving scene and I thought Lin-Manuel Miranda absolutely nailed Hermes's "I'm smiling to hide the pain inside" attitude. Edge may have stolen the show as Ares, but Lin's giving him a run for his money.
May I suggest that instead of waiting until the end of the entire series to read the books, you read each book at the end of its respective season? That way you won’t have to wait as long while still avoiding spoilers.

I've thought about that, and I'm debating. I just know I'd be really tempted to read ahead 😅 We'll just have to see! Thank you!

Is Lin really that famous? A lot of people seem to know him, I’ve never heard of him till this show. Now I do live somewhat under a rock, but I didn’t think I was that far under the rock…

I'm so happy you will be reading the books! Yes, take your time. The series is totally different. It is it's own thing and I think many fans are disapointed because of that... It's kind of bittersweet, but also exciting to be able to see something new and unexpected.

I mean… not really. If you watched the first season of PJO and then started to read SoM you wouldn’t miss a single thing. Which just shows how similar and faithful this adaptation is. I don’t get how it’s different… it has the same events playing out with the same characters and the same themes.

@@TheIndianDeity It is extremely different. The character arcs and interactions and HOW thigs play out. Maybe because I made the mistake of re-reading the book just before the series and everything is fresh in my memory. I'm not saying the series is bad though, I'm enjoying it, but I can understand how fans might be taken aback. To give an example of a HUGE change... the whole missing the deadline thing?

@@Nowcreating912I also reread the book beforehand… and everything seems to be playing out the same. Like every major beat is hitting. The only thing I understand is the deadline and Pearl change… but people who’ve seen the last 2 episodes already say everything plays our the way it’s supposed to. Like the underworld and Ares fight, as well as Olympus, and that the deadline change makes sense. If I’m wrong I will eat my words, but for now I say wait for the final 2 episodes to come out… cause the deadline being missed isn’t that big of a change if you think abt it, it just adds a bit more tension, and I think the ending will be the same w Luke thing, Grover leaving to find pan, and Annabeth and Percy leaving to go back their homes.
