So, we are discussing a situation where we cannot defend our airspace, our land space, and our really important, sea space. And, we are talking about protecting our neutrality????????? If we cannot do any of those key principles for the defence of our 'Independent' nation, we are a total joke. The Department of Defence has systematically for the last 40 years that I have served my country, systematically run down the importance of the nation's defence. They have essentially cancelled the broad local reach of the RDF, and reduced the number of Brigades available for our nation's defence. As for Paul Murphy, what will you do when Russians take over Dun Laoighre or some other lucrative spots in Dublin, will you expect our neighbours to jump in to help us when Russian bombers invade our airspace and we have no deterrent???

If you find this "brave", I suggest you contact your nearest women's refuge (if your county is fortunate enough to have even one) and you'll hear stories of how women and girls have endured male violence for thousands of years. This is nothing new. It's not brave or courageous. This is everyday life for women and girls all over the world in every country, every religion, every culture, every language.

Ireland’s defence capabilities on land, sea and air have purposely been kept at very weak levels since 1922 in order to facilitate an easy invasion, as Ireland would be no match for a milltary invasion, especially in addition to an attack from within - it’s also an easy way to, after the British empire lost its power, to force Ireland to join an EU army, the UN or a NATO army and in our current times, to force Ireland to drop its neutrality just like the Consitution - the Swiss have clearly shown us that there is no point in being neutral unless you can effectively defend that neutrality via your Milltary forces that are not dependent on any other nations for our own defence, therefore if Ireland wants to maintain its neutrality, it must adopt the Swiss model of neutrality in full without the help of any other nations including the U.K.
