Well, at long last, I may have learned what "Ghostwood" is ............ I think .... Gavin, I have watched no less than a half dozen videos on Buscadero holsters and drop belts to accompany them, and yours is the 1st one that made sense to me. And I have to say, other than possibly Don Gonzeles, your drop belt has one of the strongest looking construction steps from outset to end, that I have seen in a KZread in some time. Keep 'em comin' and I will watch 'em ALL! [Even with the high-volume banjo pickin's in the background!!]

What's the weight equivalent to 3/16-1/4"? Also I'm checking out veg hide on Amazon because it's convenient and has every other material Im in need of. Should I trust the samples I'm finding on their? So far it looks like what I need. But I'm also considered going to my local leather shop to support them. I'm starting as a hobby building hybrid holsters for myself and family. So it doesn't need folded. I'm using it for the backing surface. I'm considering going all out by using thinner leather to bind to the Kydex I'm using. Thanks in advanced.

Can I use this sling on a Henry pump action 22?
Nice job, but the trigger guard leather is superfluous. Its wanted on the lever, for padding forceful manipulation. Anyone operating that lever as intended, as in beating a rented mule, with their finger IN the guard is asking to drive the trigger THROUGH that finger.... no thanks.

A belt clip on style would be awesome. I literally hate having to feed my belt thru loops when it’s NOT NECESSARY

Just a note, when I did my leather work in the 60 - 70's for small stuff like you showed on the lever arm. I used to lightly dampen the leather so it moulded and fit a bit tighter and was easer to form.

Getting the spacing right can be tricky for sure. As soon as we were able to cut our own acrylic patterns the bullet loop templates were some of the first things I made - they're a time saver for sure!

Yeah, I totally agree actually. I need to do that once I get my hands on a .22 model. There are also several of the new Henry models just recently released that are more difficult than the one I have, unfortunately.

Wow, this was a great tutorial and filled in (No pun intended) the blanks on the alignment of the basketweave patterns. Question though - in watching your videos, you typically oil (Neatsfoot) the leather, but do you do that before or after tooling/stamping? I see in one instance applying it after the liner, but was wondering if there is a difference when tooling? Thanks
Thanks for asking - if you're going to tool or carve a pattern, you typically want to oil or condition your leather after the tooling is complete. This is because the oil will soften the fibers and your stamp pattern or tooling will not come out as crisp. The general rule of thumb is (in our shop anyhow): 1. use whatever pattern to cut the leather. 2. if you are going to tool, stamp or carve, do that next. Dunk your leather in water and let it case. Once the water is evenly spread through the fibers and it doesn't look "wet" but feels cool to the touch and when bent holds its shape (I always say its ready when it kinda feels like clay) its ready to tool. 3. After tooling or stamping is complete, let it dry completely (24 hours, usually) Then you would move on with the rest of construction...lining if desired, oiling, dye, stitching etc Hope that helps!

Love these videos, seems like you pick up something new each time. Topic of your tools of the trade question - What is the glue bottle you are using? It looks like glass and maybe a replaceable brush. I haven't had any luck finding something like it yet. It has become obvious the small containers don't have the capacity to do holster liners and cans aren't easy to use either.
Thank you! We love these glue bottles - so its a great question. I started out, years ago, with the "glue pot" that you can pick up at Weaver or Tandy and I didn't craft enough (still just a hobby) and my glue would dry out before I could use it all. I've since moved back to the larger glue pot, but the glass bottles are a really great middle ground. And you're right, the little containers really don't hold enough and the big cans are a disaster to use. We originally got our glass glue bottles from Maker Supply, but they've been out of stock for a long time now. Rocky Mountain has something very similar in stock - the lid is plastic instead of metal, but the brush is replaceable which is great. You can find them here: www.rmleathersupply.com/products/glue-pot-container-with-brush?variant=44101961027 Sometimes I will see the same style of bottle on Amazon, but thats a little hit-and-miss. Thats an old hook/trimming knife that I picked up at Tandy about 15 years ago. I think they still sell something similar (tandyleather.com/products/tandypro-tools-precision-knife?_pos=22&_sid=533813187&_ss=r) but I'm not sure if its any good...the handle is different and I doubt its as comfortable as my old one. Hey Man, sorry about the bad edit. We're in the process of trying to refilm the video and replace it with one that doesn't skip. At that spot, keep it loose until you have one X up (stitch the sinew right over left, looped around the bottom holes and then one set of holes above) and then tighten it up all at once, keeping the bottom loop of lacing over the corners. Hi, Actually this is a pattern I developed in-house. I've tried a lot of different buscadero patterns and always seemed to have a hard time getting the measurements correct (user error, I'm pretty sure haha). So I made this one in an effort to simplify things.

Thanks very much. I've found that burnishing the edge on bullet loops isn't a great use of time/resources (not great bang for your buck, so to speak). When you're pulling the strap through and pulling/tugging/stretching the leather, your edge gets ruined anyhow. So its easier and quicker to just clean it up with a quick burn once you're done instead of spending a lot of time burnishing the strap edge and then being disappointed that it didn't survive the lacing process very well.
