    I found this video a couple years ago when having this issue with my JDM Camry Gracia and couldnt find the issue with all sensors sending and reading properly, so I got the resonator and all to do this repair, but never bothered to replace it because I'm lazy. It finally conked fully out this week, just replaced that resonator and BOOM everything is perfect again. You are a godsend with this video my man, if it wasn't for this, I'd probably still be losing my mind trying to find out what's wrong.

    Hi Jeff. Any idea whether this solution works for a 2004 Lexus GX470? There seems to be a common scenario for that vehicle where the speedometer is stuck at 0 but the odometer continues to function (and thankfully the transmission shifting also behaves itself) which is of course different to the 3 symptoms you've described. I'd give it a try only I have to order the part first and without having taken out the cluster yet I can't site the component to make sure it is the same value - so I guess my first question is do you know if the component is the same for that model vehicle? Or anyone able to direct me to a circuit diagram (or photo even) for the GX470 speedo itself?

    How do you put the tube seals in?

  • @jeffharrell1874
    @jeffharrell18744 ай бұрын

    There’s multiple ways, depending on what tools you have available. It’s possible to use just a hammer or mallet alone to lightly tap them in. I’ve heard of people using a socket or pvc piece of the same diameter of the seals to help evenly apply force on the seal to help it fully seat in place. If I remember correctly, I think I only used a small hammer to carefully tap all around the seal. It’s not the easiest method, but it’s better than hammering against a flat head screw driver which could slip out of place and cut through your seal. I made that mistake and had to buy another set of tube seals lol.

You don’t want to do anything that could cause any pieces to fall through the spark plug hole and into the engine.

    I put the same part Digi Key 490-18260-ND into my 99 Avalon and it cooked the speedometer board. After carefully soldering the part to speedometer, I immediately smelled electrical issue when on turning on the ignition. I removed the speedometer to see the board had a burn on it. Doing a continuity test on my newly soldered connection posts (3) there was no problem between them, no short. This is a similar "replacement part" to the original part suggested in another video that is no longer available PN # x902-ND - maybe the problem? I've bought a used cluster to install. This one is the easier of the 2 3.0L models of 99-03. I have the harder one that's in the Avalons ( 06/2000 manufacture date ). A youtuber ( can't remember what channel ) did a genius workaround by replacing the bolt with a stud of equal thread type and applying lock-tight so it would not come out easily, then poking the stud through the hole of that " bracket " thing and using a nut to tighten it down. This makes it so instead of fighting a bolt every turn with a wrench, you just have to break the nut loose with a single turn and hand loosen it the rest of the way. Also you're not fighting to reinstall it.

    Thanks Jeff. I replaced the speed sensor to fix a transmission fault breakdown a few years ago. The 98 Camry 2.2L has been mostly OK since then except for the occasional speedo zeroing while driving, check engine light ON, OD OFF light ON and sometimes not changing up from first to second gear. The error seems to resolve itself after about 15-60 seconds but I’m concerned about unresponsiveness especially in traffic. So it’s potentially a safety concern I think. I was thinking the issue could be a faulty/sticky 1-2 shift solenoid but it changes sometimes even when I get the speedo fault. I’ve ordered the ceramic resonator and will replace once received and let you know. You’ve posted such helpful advice. Thanks again! Craig
