I have a book called Quilling for Christmas Gifts. One of the instructors calls for a 14x 30 cm white strips. Would 14 be the width and 30 be the length?? With having metrics as measurement, it's confusing to me.

  • @quillingquelly1785

There is something wrong with those numbers. They don’t make a proper reference between them. That measurement isn’t for quilling.

I use quilling mostly for greeting cards and found narrow strips better suited. The wider strips make my cards 3D, and that is much more expensive to mail. You need a special envelope, and the Post Office counts that as a "package" (they check thickness with a ruler), and the postage can be as much as five dollar. The width of the strip depends on the project. I would use 5 mm cardstock for something l display in a shadow box for example.

Thank you for this video. I'm starting to get back into quilling after a long break from the artform and my biggest frustration was always that none of the books or online tutorials ever told you how to finish/seal a piece. Do you ever make jewelry? I'm wondering how to make it feel sturdy enough to wear without feeling like I'm going to smash it. Most glazes I've tried discolored the paper.

The back ground is an artist board (wood) that I spray painted black. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking everything has to be glue to a form of paper. You can literally quill anything that you can imagine. I’ve done lamp shapes, glass, mirrors, plaster, wood, watercolor, pastels, acrylics, etc. I’d suggest watching my finishing video where I go over that in detail. This piece worked like assembling a puzzle but in most projects you should glue your quills to each other before you glue them down. Thank you for watching!
