Hi - we are James and Melissa. Skoolie Travelers is the name. We document our travels in our DIY school bus RV conversion, also known as a Skoolie. We quit our 9-5 jobs to pursue or dream of being self employed digital nomads, and travel North America doing the things we love, like: hiking, mountain climbing, swimming, surfing, rock climbing, kayaking, biking, and whatever seems like fun. We decided to convert a retired school bus into a tiny home on wheels because the low cost meant that we could eliminate nearly all of our bills, while traveling anywhere we want in total comfort! Be sure to subscribe and follow along on our advetures as we tour America's National Parks, tourist attractions, and much more.

Socks suck!!
How good does it work? Are you satisfied with it?
We've used it for 2 and a half years now and my husband works online. We have only had to turn on our Starlink at 2 locations that were too remote for any cell towers. One was near Area 51 lol
Yes, we love it. It's affordable and I love how portable it is. We take it on some hikes too. Save an extra 10% through our link at dirtcheapdata.com
oooooooh i have always wanted one of those. but i always assumed they were expensive asf
It's the cheapest Internet I've ever had. The price depends on the amount of data you need. We have the medium plan and it's our only Internet and we both make and watch videos.
Extra 10% off at dirtcheapdata.com It will give you our coupon code then show you plans and info.
I’ve been using these since 2022. My hair is thick and heavy. It is now almost to my waist. It takes 3 of them and a tie, to hold a single bun, but they truly hold ALL DAY! They are versatile, simple to use, and powerful. No more losing Bobby pins all over, no more hair falling down. These spirals or French hair pins are my go to ways to control my hair. I’m 73 years old and finding something that finally holds is amazing!
I'm glad you have had a great experience with the spiral hair pins too. I didn't know that were called French pins. They're great for me too bc my hair gives me sensory issues sometimes and these hold without poking.
@@skoolietravelers I’m sorry for the confusion. Spiral pins are not called French pins, French pins are ling and 2 pronged. I meant to say that the spirals AND French pins are great tools for long, thick, hair like mine!
What about international? Is there an alternative for starlink mobile global plan?
Great question. You should chat with them online to know for sure. Their customer service is very helpful.
Good info but you left avoided the most important part...Prices!
Starlink is $600 for the device and then $150/month. Dirtcheapdata coats nothing to get the device and our plan is $110/month. We keep our Starlink paused so we don't have to pay it bc we usually use the other.
Good
I'm a HomeFi user and I swear by it! I looked into Starlink and it just seemed way too expensive and inconvenient. I've never had any issues working from home or using my streaming services while RVing with my HomeFi device. Loved the video, the comparison was great!
Thank you for the comment! I'm glad to see others out here saving on Internet and traveling! 💜
Like subscriber if you like a poopy there will be daily poop content on the KZread video that you were watching right now poop every day poop every night and poop every second this right here is a demo video poop videos coming soon
Outstanding review, so nicely presented and narrated!
Thank you! I get so nervous putting videos out, comments mean a lot.
Just too fast, no time for scenery
Thank you for the helpful input. I agree the time lapse was too fast. I'll get some more driving content soon.
Subscribed, thank you for this comparison/review. I would love to have Starlink but, its currently out of my price range. Ive been living off the grid for the last 5 years with crappy mobile hotspot internet. Looks like I will be using HomeFi to work from home 😊.
Go to dirtcheapdata.com and you can save an extra 10% . It works better for us because it goes with the strongest signal which often isn't our cell phone provider.
@@skoolietravelers awesome thank you!
If you went to Sequoia does it work there?
In the more remote areas we would go on Internet scouting missions. We drove around with the puck until it picks up a signal. We have always been able to find something but sometimes not in the camp spot we originally planned.
Sperry flip-flops 🩴🦶🩴🦶🩴🦶🩴
U need the Sperry flip-flops
I love Rainbow for flip flops but I haven't tried Sperry's yet.
I'm biting my tongue in my sleep because I am clenching my jaws. Did you have trouble with tongue biting and if so did these help you?
I am still using these nightly today. I didn't bite my tongue but I think it would help because your teeth will have something with a little squish to bite and the tiny guard will help keep your tongue back. I also like that you can wear them on the top or bottom so you can try which is more comfortable for you. I hope they help you sleep better!
Beautiful
Always quiet outside to listen to my bird friends.❤❤❤
That's nice
He's thoughtful plus he's got a sense of direction better than a bird. I don't have to stress while traveling lol.
I have a clear blue sky and Jesus Christ comes through ever so often
It's impossible to not feel a higher calling when you're in the mountains.
Finally a video that’s an actual reality video. Not those fake ones that are still unattainable. Love this!
We left the original floors and ceiling and bought almost everything second hand or brought it from our house and bolted it through the floor. Splurge on solar. 🚌 💜
Great ideas, Sweetie! Blessing to you!
Thank you, Mary! It means a lot when people take a moment to comment. You're so kind. 😊
Thank you for this video! Was just looking online for the consistency of this. Thanks
I'm glad my review helped! It's thicker than their regular lotion but soaks in nicely. My husband will even use it sometimes 😂 and he hates lotion.
8 months later what is your opinion and review on homed? The customer support service. Ease of use, to upgrade or downgrade your plan? Any hidden fees been showing up?
We still use it and like it. We only have problems with the speed when we're far down a dirt road or on a mountain pass. The customer service is great, they always help us in the chat. You can save 10% if you go to dirtcheapdata.com
Also no hidden fees. 👍
@@skoolietravelers Thsnk you for the reply, for the advice and for the good video on the differences. I had starlink but it was too expensive for me, for what I use the internet for.
no customer service, cancelled but they keep billing our account, it's a big no for us
Sans Christmastime, I'd have to find a pine tree in order to do this task. Pretty cool, though.
Great excuse to go on a walk! 😊 🌲 Plus if you simmer some pine and cloves, cinnamon, or citrus peel in a pot it makes your house smell amazing.
Thank you for the review on using Solis in different locations. I am heading to Durango, Solida and then Leadville in a few weeks. Going to give the 5G Solis a try. Safe travels.
Let me know how it is in Durango, please. That's our next spot. We turned on our Starlink bc we were far down FSR 225 near Flagstaff. Solis was working but pretty slow miles and miles back lol
How can I make a natural, strong odor elementating spray!
💜 My favorite "fabric refresher" recipe is rubbing alcohol, water, and essential oil (tiny bit so it doesn't stain.) The alcohol eliminates good amount of smell. Vinegar is another odor eliminater.
Up wind.
I have a lot to learn about fires!🔥 Thank you for commenting.
I used the T-Mobile Home Network Gateway. I have traveled all over Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and California and always had a connection. If the signal ever became weak I would just connect up my directional cellular antenna and power the signal in from many miles away. I apse $30 per month, no hardware to buy and no contract. TM future plans will raise the price making this alternative too expensive, but for now it works great and it's cheap with my unlimited data plan I can watch Netflix until the cows come home. Before deciding on an Internet service while RVing there are 2 groups of people. 1. Full Timers 2. Part Timers. Full timers that need internet 100% of the time that maybe running a business on the road need the best system they can afford. The part timers have a harder time find an internet plan where they pay monthly but may not be traveling monthly and therefore pay monthly when they are not using it. So there are systems and plans that run $175 per month may require hardware purchases $600 and up. For part timers I would suggest getting a good cellular directional antenna and use you Hot Spot on your Phone.
painful to listen to !!!!
I'm learning. 👍 Constructive criticism would be more helpful than ... this. Did you forget that real people are putting themselves out on the Internet?
this thing sucks. it's got weaker cell service than a regular phone. If you get an unlimited celluar plan and a phone that can be set up as a hotspot, do that instead, Unreliable.
What area did you use it in? We've had good luck with ours but I will admit in some places it can be slow, but usually all cell service is. Thanks for sharing your experience.
How much do you pay for each one monthly?
We pay $100 for Home Fi and Star Link is $150. Star Link is faster if price doesn't matter to you unless you're in a very wooded area.
You didn't want your nasty grey water tank under your bus but you were willing to keep a collecter vessel inside your bus so you can enjoy any nasty smell that might excape into the air.
We keep it outside. We have a bathroom tent. We also installed a one way exhaust fan in the area that would hold it if we need to use it inside. It's easier to toss a bag than stop and empty a tank. Thank you for commenting!
This is gonna be so handy when it gets hotter outside
I already heard Irish Spring soap Original works if you trace it around your windows and doors. Haven't tested yet though
I kinda like you and your quick and to the point style. Also - I really like the way you forward to homefi delivering a coupon on the way. Smooth. Thanks
I appreciate that! 😊
😣 "promo sm"
If you bought through my link I'd make $0.05. If I wanted to promo I'd tell you to get the expensive ones.
That lotion smells sooo strong. I can't believe you use that on your face. Lol
I like it lol. I've upgraded to their face and body lotion though. It's a much lighter scent and thicker.
Also it smells less strong than the hydro gel I tried. It was kinda cool but I think aloe would work better 😆
Homefi is a big scam. I have had them both wait until you try to return one and you will see exactly what I am talking about.
They replaced our device no problem. They sent us a shipping label and they sent us out a new one before they even received their old device back. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Customer service has been great for us.
Can you hook up an external antenna to the puck? Having the puck in a big metal box is not great for signal strengths.
I don't think you can attach an antennae. We don't really have problems with it in our bus. It even works from inside the freezer! 🥶 Lol.
Thanks, I'll check it out. :)
I hope it's as good for your as it has been for us. 😊
Have you to Joshua Tree California and did you try the Home Fi ??
I haven't been there yet. I would like to make a day trip there (I'm about 2 hours away.) If there's any cell phone service, it will work. Joshua Tree does not have much cell coverage though. Stay safe!
Thanks, Take Care :)
So... Elon wouldn't sponsor you? Iresearched this service and found a bully at the other end. The puck is free initially, but after that first month you are forced to pay $10 on top of that first monthly installment for the device rental If you try to pause yourr service like you can with Starlink and run past the next month's due date, your card is charged $130 of you don't ship the hotspot back within 10 days at your own expense. Yeah, I think I will pass this one up. Usually I try out these suggested great deals, but I never tolerate bullies that ding my card without my express permission. That is tantamount to a stranger forcefully reaching into my pocket to grab my money.
That's a good point, I didn't realize the $10 was for the puck, I assumed it was taxes. Our bill is exactly $110. Star lInk is $600 so that would be 5 years of paying for the puck. We can't use Star Link at night and we like to work and stream at night.
@@skoolietravelers starlink doesn't work at night!?
@@wantsanewvehicle It does, I use it 24/7 as a backup internet connection for my local backup servers. This seems more like a case of bad research or a sad attempt at affiliate marketing.
No wayyyyyy! First two tips I get, but all the best neighbors in my 6 years of living in my van boondocking we're those living in beat up campers or vans! The whole don't judge a book by it's cover thing is real! Chances are the folks living out of a beat up rig are way cooler and more interesting than the folks living out of the sprinter van. That's my tip! (Not saying to not be cautious, but this was 100% my experience) 🤙
I mean literally burnt out/vandalized/ abandoned 🔥 🚌 lol. I agree with you that you have to have an open mind on people's homes. Sometimes people are still building and some tent campers have amazing set ups.
@@skoolietravelers Ok! My bad haha Fair enough! Thought you meant just beater campers!
I'm more judgemental about the amount of trash people let accumulate but I've been without transportation before so I try not to judge that too hard now either.
Awesome!! I’m a California Native, I was wondering have you tried Joshua tree and Mammoth camping ⛺️??
We've stayed in Big Pine, Walker, and Bishop in the mountains. It was breathtaking. We haven't made it to Joshua Tree but we winter in Quartzsite so it's only 1.5 hours away. Have you made it to those places in your home state?

I think it worked ❤❤❤
It worked but I don't think it's the best way 🧼 🖌️
Why can't people be normal and use scalding hot water and a toothbrush🤦♀️
That would have been better but peeling it off was very satisfying. 😆
The best way to hike
To be honest, I prefer my boots but I thought we were going to the grocery store and ended up in Yosemite 😂. Best grocery trip ever.
Did it work in the Sierra Nevadas on the Cali side?
It worked in most of it except the tippy top. We stayed a near the Marine Mountain Warfare training base but high up. Lost service higher up and until we hit Strawberry, CA. LMk if that helps.
No problems in Walker, Bishop, nor Big Pine. 👍
What equipment do you use for the solar charging setup?
Powtdear Inverter on Amazon, panels, deep marine batteries. 🔋☀️
