Reiley McKerracher

Reiley McKerracher

Join me in my workshop for a wide variety of projects including woodworking, automotive, and electronics. As Red Green says, “If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.” I will try and keep the duct tape to a minimum though.

If you like my videos and want to buy me a coffee, visit my buymeacoffee page at www.buymeacoffee.com/reileymcke4

I release videos whenever I have time, have something worth pulling out a camera for, and feel like doing it. That means there is no video release schedule, there might be one a month or maybe it will be twice a year, who knows!

Thanks!

    I keep hearing that USB is superior sound quality. Both my PC and my DAC have an optical port. Should I just purchase an optical cord and use that? Or should I use this isolator with the USB? I'm getting noise without the isolator.

  • @reileymckerracher9181
    @reileymckerracher91812 ай бұрын

    i would go with the optical port (SPDIF) since you have the dac already. that is actually how I run my dac right now. you can't get ground hum over an optical cable! if you go with an isolator try to determine what speed it runs at and that it will accommodate the bitrate you need, some of the isolators (like the one in my video) only run at usb 1 speeds. you could try the onboard audio and see what it sounds like. some of the newer computers have pretty good audio onboard.

    @@reileymckerracher9181 thanks for the quick response! I actually bought an SMSL SU-1 to supplant my computer's realtek audio chip. I think I'll take your advice and just use an SPDIF cable, I don't think the difference in sound quality (besides ground hum) will be audible :)

    Mr McKerracher. I have a 2.5 litre second generation (black rocker cover) N52 engine, like the one in this video. My car has reduced fuel economy and doesn't have the change tone above 4k revs associated with variable valve timing. Is this likely a eccentric shaft sensor failure? I assume the limit of power the isolator can pass through is pretty low. As someone else pointed out, the chip in the isolator is USB 1.1 so it is very slow.
