I've just started using these on my gravel bike and I really like them. Clipped in for serious rides and my flat pedal shoes or trainers for picking the kids up or just riding around with them. Genius!
I have this rack installed on my gravel bike and opted to get two 20L Sea To Summit bags which were roomier and on sale. Recently went on RAGBRAI with it and I got several compliments on my setup. Several riders were curious since they've never seen or heard of this rack before and even took pictures of it. Yes, it's expensive than the traditional rack but well worth the money.
Hey, can you share please link to the app? Thank you for review. Greatings from Slovenija.
Thanks for feedback. mahle-smartbike.com/digital-ecosystem/ I give a link to a page where at the bottom you will find links to the apps in Google or Apple stores.
I dont know if its the angle but your clipped foot looks like sweeping the floor which is an indicator of seat being too high. I would lower it by 5mm and see if that still occours.
I didn't know about that. Thanks. I'll try.
i use the same pedals but on my road bike, i didn't want to "need" cycling shoes for every ride i take. they haven't failed me either.
Same on a gravel. MB shoes on the trail, sneakers when running errands.
Torbe su sigurno dobre, malo se treba naviknuti na redosled pakovanja.Medun omiljeno brdo nas biciklista. Pozdrav
Thanks! I'm on your side. I love the road to Medun too.
Nice bike. My dad just purchased the cheaper option, eSilex 400 with 2x10. It has wider gear range than 1x11 version (especially helpful is the 30-36 combination, I should know because I have both versions on my analog gravel bikes). I hope he will enjoy it.
My congratulations to your dad! I hope he enjoys his bike-it's a fantastic choice.
As a fellow native of the Balkans, I wholeheartedly share the aversion to making a bike look like a loaded donkey. 😂
😄 But sometimes this cannot be avoided. Especially on long trips.
It’s all a matter of prefference in the end but you say that with panniers the bike looks like a loaded donkey… I think your current set-up now looks like a loaded donkey 1:42 . 😅 great videos and work so far on growing the channel, I am enjoying it!
I agree. These bags make me think of jet engines on the back, increasing the lifting force. Thanks for your feedback and support. I'm trying to do my best.
Have tried both bike packing bags and panniers, but found panniers worked best for me. Could never get a bag able to fit my laptop! (mainly a commuter) Got a Merida gravel bike as well, but it didn't have enough suitable mounting points for a pannier rack. Had to get another seat post clamp, which had mounting points/threads, which then allowed me to fit a rack. Never heard of Aeroe before, but New Zealand gear is usually top quality!
This is weird. Merida designed the back rack specifically for the Silex. It may not be the right one for you, but I’m glad you found the optimal solution for yourself.
12L seems so tiny! My solution: get an Old Man Mountain rack. Designed for full suspension, load is carried through a solid replacement axle. Makes brilliant sense as weight rides where it is designed. And the Ortlieb panniers literally lock onto rack. Perfect for camping, shopping or commuting. Each bag is 40L. Perfect!
I look at the rack on the website. Interesting. But 40 liters of panniers each is too much for me. I don't have so much stuff. Unless I can put my wife there. 😉
You should first learn to speak English correctly and only then start using the language on the KZread channel. Unfortunately, your English is lousy now and you are only embarrassing yourself.
Thanks for watching, dude. Has anyone ever told you that it's rude to give unsolicited advice? Did I write it correctly?
Bike packing dry bags are morphing into panniers. My question is: Are you doing dry bags for the look or because you think panniers look old fashion? There is an old saying going all the way back to the Romans. The best way is the simplest way. Cramming all your gear into tubes is not the simplest way.
My personal opinion is the look and quality of the bags. Where and how they are attached. Same place as regular panniers. But not a panniers. Sure, it is a matter of preference for each cyclist. But we have an alternative and that’s great.
Most Panniers rattle around, so are a pain in the ass to use offroad. So these make sense if you want a silent solution for various bikes if you don’t need THAT much space.
Loaded donkey... 😜
Good info been using them for 5 years they tough never fail
Wow, 5 years already? That's awesome to hear they've been working out for you!
Very fancy Lots of little bits of luggage. See, I use two rear panniers and a backpack. Because I don't have to leave anything on the bike when I chain it up. Going shopping is simple, getting on to trains is simple No front panniers because I don't have four hands Sure, if I was Avalokiteshvara then I could carry all those little bits at once, but I don't have 1,000 arms So I'll stick with the panniers thanks
PS Design a system that somehow zips all the bits into a comfortable backpack, and you may have a gap in the market Although I still wouldn't be convinced
I don't plan on taking these bags off when I stop. We are talking about short stops only. Yes, it's not safe. But then it’s not safe to leave the bike at all. For valuables I use a handlebar bag. And it includes a compact shopping backpack. This bag I take any getting off the bike.
@@beyondthebikeroads i leave all my bags on the bike never take them off
Awww ... Sometimes mechanical probs come when you really dont want/need them 😑How many kms total you planned for those 2 days ? Also as I am quite new to your channel ... Are you suffering from some specific illness !? If so its really brave from you to keep pedaling and practicing like that ! Thumbs up
The distance is only 108 km. Of these, 30 km are gravel. But the climb is 2700 meters. It's too much for one day. No. I haven't any illnesses. Yet. I’m not trying to get records, just to enjoy the ride.
@@beyondthebikeroads Indeed ! 2700 in one day, its too much !! 🙃 " just to enjoy the ride " I agree 100%
I use my polar mirage comp 29 everyday since 2020.Did not have any major problems.Polar is a good brand.
I'm glad for you. This means I have a bad bike and experience. It's quite simple.
Thank you, I bought one used and didn’t know how it all fit in the bag.
You’re welcome 😊
You have the bike so loaded, you have food with you? Or for how many days you’re traveling?
It seems like I'm too loaded. The plans were for a two-day trip. Food for two days. Where I was going, there was nothing there at all.
@@beyondthebikeroads well, better safe than sorry and good for 2 days that’s wow
Hey, thanks for the review. Just got my Scott Speedster Gravel 30 a few months ago. Now my girlfriend wants to start biking with me too. However as you said Gravel Bikes are (way more) expensive and she can't afford one. Before she had an old MTB but it was pure pain for her to reach any kind of speed of course so she wanted something faster but still with some off-road capability. Today I found out about those hybrid bikes and they seem to be perfect. Way cheaper than a Gravel Bike, still nice components, faster than a MTB but still fun off road. :) We will check them out in some stores in a few days. She already fell in love with the Sub Cross 30. :D Much love from Germany. <3
Yes, Sub Cross 30 is a good choice. It has a slightly simpler gears than the 20th. But this is not particularly noticeable. Travel pleasures!
bravooo very good video i also try to see where to chanrge in Italy or maybe use the solar pannel ciao i am Adriano Italy
I don't think a solar panel will help in my case. It takes over 6 hours to charge at 2 amps, which is complicated and the panel itself is bulky. Therefore, I rely on two batteries, internal and external. You can always recharge at cafes, restaurants, and gas stations. It’s better to spend the night in campsites or hotels where you can recharge.
❤
I just don't like the details of the Garmin maps on the Edge devices. They are really dull and don't show you what's around. That is soooo much better on phone maps, like mapy cz or LocusMap.
I use different apps. Komoot for creating a route, Garmin for following the route. If I need a store or restaurant, Google. Need weather and wind - UAV forecast . Need campsites - Caravanya etc
@@beyondthebikeroads Yeah, I know but what's the point of an Edge then ? I hardly ever follow a pre-set course. I'd love the navigation to be better on the Edge.
It all depends on the method of use. The benefits are: long battery life, the ability to follow the route right on the handlebar, and tracking of sports activity. For me the battery life cover other benefits. By the way, the Komoot can also be installed on the Edge. Yeah, the price of the Edge as a phone. But this is your decision.
Thx again ! Oh and what about the confort of the bike !? With the 47 section tires, must be comfy ? I need to try a gravel bike with the X35 system, but I guess it wont be enough assistance for me for climbing as I am 57yo and having heart troubles for the last 2 years (2 coronarian stents) 😐
The tires are excellent. Pretty good roll for this width. But these are not original. This is Specialized Parthfinder Pro2. If you won't overpump, it's great. And for rocky off-road conditions they are great. And the seatpost is carbon. This is also very important.
Perhaps you need a more powerful bike. But this is provided that you do not lift it. Because his weight will be impressive.
@@beyondthebikeroads I know someone who is selling a Cannondale Topstone Neo with the X35, I will have to try it and I'll tell you. Thx
@@beyondthebikeroads Hello again ! So, I tried the Cannondale Neo Topstone with the same motor as yours ... and unfortunately I dont feel like having enough assistance. Maybe in the future when I feel better.
Hello. It’s very good that you tried it and there is no subsequent disappointment. I recommend paying attention to Bosch motors. I think they will suit you better. Although the bike will be much heavier.
Thx for the presentation ! Interesting bike (the 650Boption as well) I have a "stupid question " ... Does the back wheel hub sound is nice or not !? I mean, I cant stand a 100% silent one as much as too noisy one ! 😉 Thx again for your work ! Cheers from France
Bonjour! Depends on the mode. At minimum it is almost quiet. At maximum it is noisy. But it's not annoying. Certainly not like a trolleybus
Wow tunnels. You can't see anything. This is very dangerous.
Yes, so a reflective vest, a rear and front light and a little courage.
Geez that tunnel without any interior lights. it must have been unnerving.
In Montenegro, many tunnels are simply carved into the rock with asphalt laid down. That's it. When the tunnel is long and winding, visibility drops to almost nothing. To make it worse, water often leaks from the ceiling. It's like a setting for a horror film. Some tunnels are illuminated, but not always.
@@beyondthebikeroads amazing video again, especially loved the aerial footage of the monastery. Congratulations on another great ride.
👍
Bought mine on sale £538
Great deal on the bike! Congrats and enjoy the rides!
Next time use an even louder disco music while being more whispery.
Wow! You have a unique taste in content.
Awesome 🤘
Thanks ✌️
Stunning views. Incredible
It really is!
Bonito paisaje.
Cool journey! Montenegro looks a little different in videos ;) It would be great to see you riding a bike from bird-flight height, because the views are just incredibly scenic!
helpful video - thanks. Wondering your thoughts on the weight of the bike, obviously the battery/motor must add quite a lot compared to a normal gravel bike - couple of kg?
A bare bike, without an additional battery, weighs 14 kg, which is quite good. Adding an extra battery increases the weight by another 3 kilograms, bringing the total to 17 kilograms. Standard carbon gravel bikes weigh around 10 kilograms, although there are some super expensive models that weigh as little as 8 kilograms. On the other hand, aluminum gravel bikes typically weigh around 12 kilograms on average.
Funny video👋
Nice ride, well done! Is there much traffic on those roads? Any other cyclists out and about?
Thank you. Cars are rarely seen, mostly locals. I didn't encounter any cyclists on this road at all. It's not a popular route.
Thank you very much for sharing your tour. I enjoyed the pictures and all your interesting information. I just bought the Merida esilex 400. Best wishes from Austria !
Thanks for such kind words. You have a super bike. And enjoy the rides in so picturesque country.
Počni bez baterija da voziš...e bike je za penzionere😉
Maybe start riding without pedals? Or without a handlebar? This is for kids 😉
@@beyondthebikeroads ha ha,šalim se ja.Treba samo biti aktivan i voziti
How much battery did you have left at the end ?
22% in internal battery. But I recharged it at 33% on the road. So, I guess it wouldn't be enough for the whole trip. But if I have only used the minimum level, it would be enough.
Thanks for sharing! Great ride and the bike just goes and goes! Out of curiosity, what assist level did you use and how is your Motor Map in the Mahle app looking? I think you averaged around 4W per km
I always use the minimum level (green). But on steep uphills, I switch to medium (orange). I don't use the maximum one. On the motor map there is a custom option. For each level 100%. By default.
What is the make and model of your cycling sunglasses? I see there are prescription inserts.
Here they are www.demonsunglasses.com/products/occhiali-sportivi-da-vista-per-ciclismo-e-running-monolente-fotocromatica-performance-rx
Thank you 😎
Nice video. Is it possible to speed up charging use more powerful charger?
I don't think this is a good idea. Firstly, the warranty will not apply. Secondly, the battery will wear out faster. Thirdly, I have not seen factory chargers that are more powerful. Just do it yourself. There are more risks than benefits in this case.
How do you like the fde color? I’ve always had black watches but I’m thinking the fde might be nice on this one.
I like. The color is more vibrant. Just right for tactics.
Друже, привіт! Подивився декілька відосів і у захваті! Я не знав що ти українець)) Як можна тобі написати? Може є інста чи ще щось?)
Вітаю! Ні, нема в мене інсти. Є email. [email protected]
That was fun
Nice one! That was an interesting video, thank you for sharing. Best wishes.
Great video. The scenery is stunning. Did you try mounting the battery on the down tube, and the water bottle in the seat tube? Maybe it fits that way, or same problem.
I experimented with various options. When positioned on the down tube, the power wire wouldn't reach the connector, so it had to remain in its "standard" location, slightly higher or lower, within the wire's length. To solve this, I used a mount adapter, allowing me to position the water bottle slightly higher. So that's it.
@@beyondthebikeroads ok, that is very annoying! Hopefully they fix that in the future.
