Tim Rodie Rides Motorbikes
I'm Tim and I'm a car journalist… but at heart I'm a slightly lanky fat bloke who likes riding motorbikes. Mostly on the road, occasionally on track and off-road if I've suddenly had an attack of overconfidence.
Join me for bike reviews that cut through the PR nonsense and get straight to the nub of whether a bike's actually *fun*.

wanted to put these tyres on my GSX 1000 but the size of 190/50 is nowhere can't find, took Road 6 🤔
I cannot understand what he is saying
Sorry, I'm crap at English
Great series, loved it. Definitely inspired me to do a trip
Hooray, thank you! It's one of those addictive things though...
Love the channel! Fancy some company on the next tour let me know. Also, set my mt10 up for touring!!
Thank you! I'm super picky about who I ride with (sorry!), I had some bad experiences riding in groups years ago...
I ridden the s1000xr maybe more than 10k KM for test purposes. Its one of the perfect bikes that money can ever buy.
Yes, but you're also incredibly handsome ;)
Thanks for sharing this tour Tim, it's definitely giving me ideas for time off in September! Silly question; what are those summer riding boots you are wearing at the end of this episode, whilst giving the cost breakdown?
Not a silly question! They're my new Furygan Stockton Air D30 boots. They're great for hot weather... so expect to see them about once on the channel
Racja kolego. Zgadzam sie .
Thanks for the video. I've just today done the same swap on my Ninja SX. My S22s lasted 4k and still had a bit left. Unfortunately it was raining today so they're still not scrubbed in 😢
Love the touring videos Tim Keep doing them.
Thank you so much. I will!
Loved this series. Great mix of bikes and history 👍👍
Thank you Jimmer!
I came her to see if you still had the 10SP - I'm considering one
I do! Check out the roadtrip vids I just posted, I talk about it lots there. I’ll do a bit of review soon
Didnt you have a Multi 950?
Nope! I had a Hyper 950SP from 2020-21 though
@@timrodierides I have a Monster 1200 at home. Have been knocking around on a Tracer 7 ( after fuck knows how many screens) but I have cash on the hip now to replace the Tracer 7 - honestly most that I ride are so noisy above 70mph i can't see the point in anything bigger than the 7 ( which handles like a supersports when you get wherever you get to ) if it's going to give me noise and buffeting
what are you on now?
@@I_am_Thursday get a naked… it’s the only way
@@I_am_Thursday an MT10SP… the one in this video 😂
Good video love it S1000 XR guy
Great inspiration. Just returned from a trip to Arnhem, Remagen, Eiffel (went to see the Ordensburg Vogelsang- a military training area) and Waterloo- on the battlefield tour with a mate. After seeing your previous video, want to return to Vosges mountains. Nothing beats biking and battlefield tours in Europe where roads are smooth and empty (and no police). Keep up the videos.
Interesting - I was just reminded of Vogelsang by a mate. I'll go there later this year or next! Thanks for the kind words
Not a conventional comparison, bear with me- BMW XR1000 or Suzuki Hayabusa? Both sport touring beasts with a different approach my thoughts: Looks- Busa Engine- Busa Reliability- Suzuki Electronics- fair fight but most go to the XR Position Comfort- XR Seat comfort- Busa Price- Busa What do you think?
I agree with you - I think the handling would go to the BMW. I'd find it hard to choose though...
Great video thanks for sharing, totally agree with you points at the end about the post trip feelings
Thanks! Do you tend to fall in love with your bike or change it?
Thanks for this. Currently run the 01 SE on my K1300s and love them so the 02 shouldn't disappoint and GTC is my go to tyre centre.
This must happend- An Hayabusa 1300GT
I have Metz M9 RR on my Triple which are great. These 02s might be a replacement when I eventually have to swap, which won’t be for a while as I ride like my granny. But tyres have come on so much in the last few years it would seem. I doubt if you are old enough to have experienced the like of Avon Road Runners (ditch finders) which I used in the 70/80s and did many miles on my Honda 750 four. Happy days. Thanks enjoyed the videos.
Good review, no snake oil sales pitch bo*lucks, just rider feedback across different riding conditions 👍
Any idea on the cost of a pair Tim? My Road 5's will get me through the rest of this year, but think i'll need a new set of something for '25. £360 fitted for Road 5s about 12 months ago... ETA - found them for about £340 supplied (120/70 + 180/55) so approx £400ish fitted, not too different from Road 6's.
Yeah, about £370 around my way. I remember when all tyres were £250 fitted a pair... sigh
@@timrodierides I'm old enough to remember paying about £65 for a rear on my ZZR600, can barely get a tyre for my mountain bike for that now!!
Always looking for that balance between grip and longevity 🍻
This is the vid that made me check out the new MT 09 having never really been that interested before. I'm now the owner of a new MT 09 in cyan like this one and loving it! Thanks Tim for a great and convincing review!
Amazing! Thank you. Hope it brings you many laughs
Avon Square masters all day long. Dig that sharp edge into soft asphalt. Last set I had was good for 14k miles. Such feel, such joy. Remoulds available upon request.
You got 14k miles on a rear tire?? I've never gotten more than 10k miles on a rear tire and usually much less than that. What bike are you riding and how much do you weigh?
Great review - thanks. How would these compare to Michelin Road 6's?
I've not ridden Road 6s for long enough on the same bike to really compare, sorry - I've only ridden them as OEM fitment on various different bikes. I'll let someone more informed chime in...
I really enjoyed following your trip over these 3 episodes and found this more interesting than most trip vids on YT. Look forward to seeing future ones too 😃
Thanks - that means a lot and inspires me to do more!
Michelin Road 6s apparently , I run Road 5s kawasaki sx 1000 use it sensibly don't hang around where possible , last set 9300 miles needed changing,
The advancements in tire technology over my nearly 50 years of riding is mind boggling ! But I must say, the sound of that MT10 is intoxicating 🏍️🤪👍!!!
Evening Tim I'm going to Germany in Sept 4 to the 11 th staying in winterberg there's gonna be 4 of us would like to email you to ask a few questions if that OK with yourself regards .Tony
Hello! Fire away - my email address is on my channel page somewhere... there's a contact me thing somewhere.
Evening Tim can't seem to find a contact you button on your chanel cheers
Sometimes i really miss my ‘22 MT-10 SP… That crossplane engine is a feast and the Øhlins suspension is sublime. But then i remembered that the suspension on my new ‘24 S1000XR is just as sublime, the engine is more feisty AND it has a screen that is not from a decade ago
Thanks for the ride, looking forward to the videos of the September trip!
Thank you... I look forward to making it!
Hiya. Does it have a usb connection point?
The dash isnt great. The graphics on the screen are slow to move. The vibrations through the footpegs are not good particularly on longer rides. The pillon grab rails sit above the pillon seat and catch the foot when getting on and off the bike. Some of the electronic settings are not saved, required that they be re-set when you next start the bike. I give this bike 7 out of 10.
I hate how slow the graphics are...
Holy Crap! To hell with all these electrics. Even H-Ds have way to many electrics screwing their bikes up. My 2 favorite bikes were the KZ1000 J & Suzuki DR 650!
2000miles! That is alarmingly shortgevity 😮 I’m glad the new ones have greater gevity! I’ve now said ‘Longevity’ too many times and it no longer sounds like a word 😂
Great review, Tim, thanks. I'm tempted to put these on my Multistrada V4s.
Flattened weasel 🤣🤣 amazing description
Thank you so much for this review. Was really curious what your thoughts are on these tyres.
Recently had some put on my 900GT Tracer and went touring two up in Scotland. They made such a big difference to the handling of the bike and gave me so much confidence in both dry and wet conditions. I did about 1700 miles and they are showing negligible wear. Seem to be well worth the money so far.
Good review, I have Metz 01se's and they were great on my Hornet, I think these will be my replacement for Mich Roadtec 5 on my R1250R
Interesting. I have the Michelin Road 6 on a standard MT10. Can say the same about the wet performance, absolutely incredible. But the dry they are a little slow to turn in and would like something a little sportier but without loosing the longevity so perhaps I’ll try these next time 👍
I've only tried Road 6 as an OEM tyre on some new bikes and I really like them. Owners rave about them too - I'd be interested to back-to-back them with these Metzelers at some point
@@timrodierides I’d love to see that actually. Especially when Im not in a position to “test” as I just have to buy based on reviews
Rather get a suzuki it will still run in 5 to 10 years time
Mr roadie is no mug. Therefore im inclined to accept his advice and consider these tyres. Thank you tim and i very much enjoyed the latest Germany trip.
Thank you!
Please keep doing the touring/war trips I find them great fun and interesting, keep up the good work. Ive watched your GoPro 12 video about three times now trying to get a good set up.
Very useful, thanks.. I don't actually currently possess anything that these would be suitable for, (Africa Twin and POS forty year old Harley ) but will store for future info. For a few years now Avon Trailriders (and maybe others in the Avon stable) use a closey up sipe strategy to warm up the tyre and I have to say it works very well. And yeah, you did OK for your first official tyre review 👌
I am gald you want to keep making these types of videos as I love them. Keep them coming!
Great videos sir. Thank you
Ditto to most of that! Been touring over there now for about 20 years, like to see the extra bits you put in which I can keep adding to my trips to make them even better. Keep the vids coming!!!
Love he bike trips, love the bike and love the war history element. Keep doing em 🙏
Thank you very much - I'll keep doing them as often as I can
If you have ridden a sliky smooth Triumph tripple then the t-plane is probably not for you, which unfortunately alienates a large part of the existing Triumph customer base.
