Ben Grimsley Woodworking

Ben Grimsley Woodworking

I started woodworking when I was 12 years old and built my first treehouse. Since then, I have slowly learned more and more about woodworking and I try to get 1% better each day.

One day, I hope to bring my woodworking journey full circle and build luxury treehouses filled with a craftsmanship.

In the meantime, I would love for you to join me as I take on woodworking projects, review tools, and give you ideas and inspiration to build something yourself.

    Instead of using templates one could just cut the entire board on a cnc. It would save a great bit of time and changing design is easy.

    Never heard of a big green egg. Well, thats a lie. I have a hen who lays big green eggs. But that hole is way to big for even her jumbo eggs! Dont think big green eggs have caught on in my area. Maybe i can get a jump on this.....

    If your going to walk into this area, haven’t watch this video all the way through yet so know that, also maybe plan to do similar for the chargriller grill. Mostly similar. Maybe your neighbors have that brand. And if your into 3d building, I am about ready to make something to help keep water out of the bottom tray. I think it’s coming from top vent but not sure. Maybe I should look that up. Btw. If your egg is green, you ain’t raising chickens anymore. Lol

    @aaronblackford981 I don't have a 3d printer. But I wish you all the best with your invention! That is so cool! To make an improvement on such a high tech device is impressive. I'm sure you can make a small fortune from that. Don't tell anyone what the solution is. Cause they might beat you to it. And chickens lay green eggs. And blue. And brown. And pink. Very few lay white. That's just what the commercial hens lay. But other breeds lay a rainbow of colors!

    If I want to add things to the pour such as spent rounds or small toys or coins. To I let the first pour cure completely or what’s the best way to do this? Thanks

  • @Ben_Grimsley
    @Ben_Grimsley3 күн бұрын

    I did this once with small rocks. I did a thin layer of epoxy and then let it cure. Then I added the rocks and epoxy. This will cause more bubbles in your epoxy, so watch out for that!

    Besides cleaning off any excess bark etc did you happen to seal the timber first with epoxy before your live edge pour? I’m new to this and keen to give it a crack but I have mixed feelings as I’ve heard others say you must seal and yeh

  • @Ben_Grimsley
    @Ben_Grimsley5 күн бұрын

    I did not seal the edges first. I have heard mixed reviews on if this is necessary or not. From what I gathered, it helps prevent bubbles. But I personally do not think it is a necessary step. I hope this helps!

    I’m not a woodworker where I make things to sell. Recently I’ve been getting a bunch of tools to do a project for my house. I’m gonna make custom cabinets for my kitchen. But I have done other things too. I have made a barn door for my house on the real cheap. I wish I had a joiner and planer when I did. I used cheap pine boards from Home Depot and drilled holes on the sides of it and glued and doweled the pieces together. My clamps became insufficient so to finish the final size of the door I used wood blocks and ratcheting straps as clamps. I then used a map gas to burn in the wood and polyurethane finish. It’s a beautiful door. But now that I have better tools I may have to remake it so the boards are even straighter than what I currently have. Nice video. And I love the ideas.

    That is awesome! I can relate to wanting to have more tools. Sometimes, it seems like I always need “1 more tool” to build the project I want to make. However, with woodworking, there are several ways to accomplish different tasks.

    I bought a kit of Ryobi tools 4 or 5 years ago with an impact drill, reg drill, jigsaw, recip saw, circular saw, air pump, light and a carry bag and a battery with charger. It was a well thought out collection of tools for getting into cordless tools and I use most of them frequently, especially the impact drill (not confident if I’m using the name correctly which will matter in a few moments). The real hook into the brand is their sales, especially Ryobi Days. Pretty frequently you can either buy a tool and get another tool or battery for free or buy a 2 pack of batteries with/without a charger and get a tool for free or even better last year for black friday they had a deal for 2free tools with purchase of a tool. Because of the sales I now have about a dozen batteries evenly split between 2 and 4 AH and recently got started in their 40v outdoor tools after picking some up in a couple auctions. Alsthanks to deals I actually have 2 of the palm routers but haven’t used them yet but will very soon. Also got their impact gun for removing lug nuts and installing/removing our 5th wheel trailer gooseneck hitch and it’s a beast. I had most of these before I started watching woodworking creators but find it comforting that almost all of them have at least a couple Ryobi tools that they periodically use.

    This router is a steaming pile of hot garbage! And this comes from someone who has an entire tool set of Ryobi stuff. My other Ryobi tools I love, but after having this router for only a year and using it less than a handful of times, it started to fail. And by fail I mean it would suddenly plunge deeper in a cut. So I went back to the handbook and made sure I was setting everything correctly, and I was. What I realized was the pertinent piece that travels up and down the depth shaft is plastic. It needs to be metal. This is what is preventing mine from not having this failure. I know these are cheap and this might prohibit Ryobi from making this component metal, but it there ever was a component on this router that needs to be metal in order to have it work properly, this is the one. I'm currently look for a replacement router OUTSIDE the Ryobi family.
