I love my skin, I honestly wouldn't want to change at all. To me, darker skin looks very healthy, and it is scientifically proven that those with darker skin are protected from so many diseases. I guess the lack of education regarding dark skin is also the problem and here in my country there has been a rise in young women bleaching. It is honestly so sad to see because we actually celebrate dark skin here.

That's it, I'm tired of that sh!t. I'm going to start a space for ladies with 4A to 4C hair (the one that defies gravity only) to praise ourselves, keep track of our journey, share products and style recommendations. Only for girls who try to accept, love and grow their hair on the daily, no room for haters. We need our own bubble of positivity and appreciation. I'm tired of sharing the internet with some people.

This is something I learned since moving to America from Nigeria. The definition of beauty here was never in relation to black/african features and accepting that was the first step for me. I knew this the moment I went from being told all my life that my gap teeth was so beautiful and attractive to moving to America and I was recommended to close it. Thankfully it only happened once and my mom ensured that I wasn’t interested in it for the wrong reasons, especially as the gap does not impact my health in any way. I was 16 when we moved and I’m currently 24. I quit social media (except for KZread) at 20 and I’ve been wearing natural hair out since 2020 too. I get a good chunk of attention about my hair and about my looks. I am very reserved so I always appreciate when people go out of their way to compliment me because I can appear stand offish (working on it). Sometimes people will literally apologize to me before saying they thought I was pretty and are shocked by how sweet I can be because of my reserved nature. I know I am considered “pretty” by most but I also consider myself internally beautiful and even my mother made it a point to ensure that lol (Nigerian parents). I also love for my character to be praised because looks fade but character is forever. Although, I have noticed that when I am more intentional about smiling and seeming more approachable I basically get a lot of attention, more than usual. So sometimes because I am introverted I don’t force it. I can’t completely get rid of my RBF because that’s just how I am but I am aware of how it impacts how people perceive my approachability. So I do agree there’s so much to pretty privilege. I also think that people need to be comfortable with themselves and love themselves regardless of compliments, although I know that is easier said than done. I appreciate your content.

I got dragged on multiple Natural Hair videos by both black people and non black people because I called out the texturism in the black community and I said women with type 4 hair should center ourselves and create our own movement since the original natural hair movement centered mixed women with type 2 and 3 hair. I was tired of seeing women with type 4 hair putting mixed women and non black women with type 2 and 3 hair on a pedestal and calling their type 4 hair nappy and bad. I got tired of hearing “ my 4c hair could never “ and “ I hate my type 4 hair I wish I had loose curls”. Black women with type 4 hair have to embrace our natural hair and stop comparing it to other hair types. Also I have 4a natural hair and yes I can still speak out against the texturism in the black community because I still have type 4 hair.

You speak nothing but facts! And those same mixed women made there on movement (exoticals) which is all about how ppl with type 4 hair are envious and pedestal them. We gotta stop. We gotta start loving and embracing our own hair and texture. I can't even wear 3b curly crotchet hair now without hearing their words "they wanna be us..." I will fiercely love my natural hair just to prove that 3b is not the only way to be the "beauty standard". We helped make exotical women the beauty standard but it's not too late to put ourselves on the pedestal. ❤️

Exactly. On the subreddits for natural hair and black hair, we see so many posts like that nearly every week. Whenever I call it out, they tell me I'm mean, I have no empathy, and I don't understand because my hair is probably not short or type 4. But it is type 4 and I wouldn't consider it long since I'm quite a way from my goal length. They find it so hard to believe someone actually loves and wants type 4 hair. Even the ones with long and thick hair still complain and say they wish they had loose curls. It's exhausting.

NATURAL BEAUTY trumps everything thats faked… there’s no such thing as subtle plastic surgery in my blessed sacred opinion.. everybody just wants to look like somebody else other than themselves… not me though mind cos I have my own look.. I’ve never followed anyone else’s standard of what they deem beautiful… sexy nor pretty.. I created my own standard and I stick with them proudly and profusely… I’m not bothered about high fashion.. that’s a mugs game… and I ain’t no mug.. beauty advertisement gets totally lost on me.. as I have better things to do than to try and keep up with this trend and that regime… I’m no slave to beauty… I wear what the creator gave me and that’s it… why.. I couldn’t get any more low maintenance if I tried hahah But.. low maintenance is where it’s at because in being so I get to enjoy the fabulous stuff this wonderful life has to give / offer out to me + it saves me a fortune in the long run… That’s all I’ve got to say on this topic really.. It has nothing to do with pretty privilege. A woman who doesn’t have 3 different baby daddies, who takes care of her whole body and not just her hair only is far better catch then just a girl with only nice hair. A radiant personality and heart is also way better than just a pretty girl. Can y’all stop glorifying your bodies for a second and start addressing the things that matter. That’s when all your problems will seem to melt. You only talk about your looks but you barely discuss having good credit, having clean criminal records, investing, exercising, or health. It’s always we are good athletes, we have bigger butts, we dance better, we’re this and that. Everything except what counts. The whole world already knows this. Let’s do something better and different for once. And of course grow your own hair at the same time. But also get your whole body right. Including the inside and your mind.
