You’re also not considering how modern day beauty standards are also over sexualized because a naturally beautiful woman who covers up will be overlooked the same as a an average or “ugly” person. People who have been considered pretty nowadays have to show their body off a lot too

Hmm that's an interesting take. Sexualized beauty is so overrated, pls bring back the modesty!😆🙌

Hmm that’s a little interesting because at the end of the day they are pretty. They are going to reap the benefits of it. People see your face first, if you are covered and your hair is nice etc you are turning heads. Just not to the same extent as some decked out in the latest trends or showing off their perfect body but never overlooked.

@@Sarah-kv3qs I’m saying this from experience. There are many strikingly beautiful church women and muslims that will never ever be considered beautiful in a country like America. Modern day western beauty standards are very different to what they were hundred years ago. The same way makeup also fits in our beauty standards, so do our choice of clothes.

@@zazilicious Ah you mean by American standards I see. I guess I will flip it then they are still to some extent even within their own communities where that is respected treated better. When talking to Muslim girls looks are definitely everything to maintain in order to find a suitor(have you even seen the hijabi beauty standard?). I get what you mean yet still from seeing it first hand they will try to fit and reap benefits of beauty within their own communities

This video gave me a lot to think about. If Jackie feels that wayy I wonder how the rest of the black girls feel. It’s unfair that some girls have to work 10x harder than the pretty ones

I think there’s two standards of pretty privilege one you get in the real world vs on social media. I think if you are objectively pretty you will get some benefit in the real life.

There’s also the halo effect. I think some people get pretty privilege and the halo effect confused. Some people actually only have one or the other but it’s the people who have both that we’re always seeing.

Like I mentioned in the video, these standards are slightly different across cultures. USA beauty standards rule the world, especially if you live in North America.😮‍💨

Do you not understand how colonialism and white supremacy work? Because of white supremacy, the beauty standard IS white people in western society. It doesn't mean other people and races cannot be beautiful, it means white people made themselves the standard, the "default" for beauty in the western world. Colonialism is also the reason most other cultures practice colorism, and favor lighter skin. You simply do not understand the conversation Tinuola is having due to your lack of knowledge on the matter. Please research what beauty standards are for the USA/western culture, since you "disagree". Btw what Tinuola is talking about is not an opinion, it is a fact.

@@757CitiesReppa It's not sad, it's literally how the world works due to centuries of colonialism and white supremacy being forced on everyone. Omg pick up a book and read about it. Willful ignorance isn't cute. What's sad is that white supremacy, racism, colorism, and texturism exist. THAT'S whats sad.
