  • @nicholasjohns946
    @nicholasjohns9465 ай бұрын

    The Jøtul F378 is a completely different burn chamber from The F170 series. The Jøtul F170 is a 5kw stove with Zensoric technology that controls how the fire burns to get the most from the fire and less need for the consumer to use air controls. Also low distance to combustibles . Both fires are great but offer different styles.

    Can you guys take a look at the Esse Bakeheart and make a 30% bigger version for the US market? That thing is dynamite: it serves as a wood stove but also a cooker, oven and grill too. My problem is that they only have 1 distributor in North America, plus there's no catalytic option.

    I will NEVER buy a Jotul wood stove again. My Jotul 8 is horrible. The logs easily and dangerously roll out and onto the floor, there's no way to easily remove the ashes when in use, and the glass on the door cracks easy. You are the worst.

    Jotul has been a complete disappointment to us in refusing to service our wood stove, that has an oxygen intake issue since it was installed by their distributor. They were very enthusiastic about taking our money(and much of it;) yet they've failed miserably to back their claims & promises, in refusing to service or to even attempt to investigate & determine what the problem is. The're are surely reliable company's out there & products , up to nowJotul is & has proven not to be one of the honorable mentions. Yet in all fairness, If there's a change of heart on their part? I'll definitely update this (as winter approaches). Yet at this point it seems unlikely from them, i.e or from their distributor by there lack of concern & condesending tone & lack of support & professionalism and air flow

    How is the air coming into the Jotul? Is there some gap under? Or is it connected to some pipe? And how the warm air circulates and heats the room?

    We live in the UK & recently moved house after living with an old Jotel 602 for 22 years and WHICH WE LOVED! So we decided to buy the new F 602 ECO for the new house. I've only had 5 or 6 sessions with the new one and am very disappointed ... the only way to light the fire is the with front flap fully open and door open slightly too. (Instructions suggest - "you may have to leave the door open to light the fire") However even when the fire is going .. it will go out if you close the door (even with vent flap open.) THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD ... NOBODY SHOULD EVEN LEAVE A DOOR OPEN TO LIGHT THE FIRE ... LET ALONE NEVER CLOSE IT WHEN IT'S FULLY LIT! I'm not very happy as this fire is one of the most expensive on the market and isn't safe ... does Jotel have any advise?😞

    Good afternoon. Why design a stove that smokes in the room when adding firewood to the coals? Previous versions of Jotul did not allow themselves to do this. Regression?

  • @oldsteamguy
    @oldsteamguy Жыл бұрын

    new stoves of many brands do this because the smoke is directed to the front by the door instead of up and out the back. it is a result of regulators pushing manufacturers to reduce emissions to the extreme that manufacturers end up having to sacrifice function.

    I've been using 602's since the 1990s and what a stove it is. I have the 602 CB with one of the last high tops made. The high top is a great accessory, shame they stopped making it. Would like to have purchased the ECO, but it came out just after I got the CB. In our living room we have the Jotul F105 and I have never seen a stove give out so much heat from so few logs. Its not so easy to light as the 602, but in terms of economy it is incredible and the air wash works well keeping the glass clean. Jotul have to be the best stove manufacturers, there is no doubt in my mind. We stayed recently in a holiday rental cottage which had a steel stove, think it was an English manufacture and the heat was so uncomfortable, almost painful. Cast Iron gives off a more relaxing warmth.

    I’m from Scotland and have had numerous Jotul stoves, through the years in different houses and now having 3 stoves in our home and another one in a cabin that we rent out for holidays. The first was the Jotul 602, then the Jotul 301, brilliant stove, it blew hot air around the room via convection. We had the f350, too powerful, but brilliant. Jotul f118 Bear for 12 years, just exchanged it for a f162 (cleaner burning). We have a f105 in our living room, I have never seen a fire give off so much heat for so little wood used. It’s cute, looks like a Minion. We have a 602 clean burn in the cabin and a 602 eco. Jotul are the best IMO.

    Used to love mine until I discovered it has no access to the flue which means the fire has to be taken apart to allow the sweeps brush in every time it is serviced. It must be a reject the installers in Northumberland 🇬🇧are not interested but I have been advised to get a hole put in the flue at the front and won’t that look pretty. The baffle broke in two the second winter lately the grate snapped in two and no I don’t run it day and night only approximately six hours per day. It is still in warranty just but won’t last twenty or even ten years on the plus side the glass door doesn’t soot up and it’s easy to light. Customer service from my installer is disgusting no interest once they have your money. I am angry did they know it can’t be accessed there is just a clunk noise where it should open

    sorry but that is the wrong way of lightning the fire, it should go exactly the opposite way, smaller wood at the bottom and bigger wood at the top, because the fire goes up and not down

  • @AlagomSwede
    @AlagomSwede2 жыл бұрын

    Putting larger firewood at the bottom and building up with smaller kindling is a more modern lighting technique that is often preffered to putting the kindling at the bottom. If you light from the bottom the heat rises and the fire will attempt to ignite all the wood at the same time, creating excessive smoke. If you light from the top the fire will have to "lick" its way down, only igniting the next layer of fuel once it has burned through the current layer. This ends up giving a cleaner burning fire creating less creosote in the chimney.

  • @Lot_2023

    @@AlagomSwede lol, um.......isn't actually STARTING the fire, just a weeee bit more important, than having some more initial smoke? Unless you're a Liberal, of course.

  • @chriscoghill528
    @chriscoghill5282 жыл бұрын

    In this video, fire lighters are used. If these are made from fossil fuels, that seems retrograde. In 40 years of lighting wood stoves, I have never needed to use firelight3ers. I find that newspaper and kindling do the job.

  • @chriscoghill528
    @chriscoghill5282 жыл бұрын

    The advice in the video to leave the door slightly open to assist the draft is interesting. There is no log guard on this model. I once left the room while the door was slightly open. When I came back to the room, a log had settled inside the stove and had fallen against the door. This had pushed the door further open. Embers could have been pushed out by the settling log. My previous Jotul 8 had a log guard to stop this happening. If a greater draft is needed, why doesn't the stove have a damper? The US version (602 v2) of my 602 Eco seems to have a damper built in to the door.

  • @joan-lisa-smith

    Um, you don't walk away with the door open, basic safety.

  • @chriscoghill528
    @chriscoghill528 Жыл бұрын

    SOLVED! I bought a new F602 door, the kind that has a sliding damper at the bottom of the door. The fire now gets going faster, and newly loaded logs catch fire sooner, without having to leave the door open. The door cost £219 new. I found that the geometry of the hinges and pins was the same as the door on my F602 Eco so the new door fits perfectly. Also, I no longer make any use at all of the 3-position damper/lever under the front shelf of the F602 Eco. I just leave that lever on the middle setting permanently. I realise that I may have rendered useless some of the cunning features they added to do with 'eco' this and that. The new door has a long box along the inside top - anyone know what that does? One drawback with the new door is that the sliding knob on the damper in the door has all the action in just a small range of movement. So to move it accurately you have to grip it whereas on other Jotuls you can just flick the damper and not worry about burning your fingers (cue comment from Jo on basic safety! :) )
