Jøtul F 602 Eco

Ғылым және технология

Jøtul F 602 Eco truly is one of our timeless classics. With it´s iconic design dating back to 1940 and modern combustion technology, it gives the best of both worlds. This wood stove can take combustion air from the outside, meeting even the most demanding modern homes.

I've been using 602's since the 1990s and what a stove it is. I have the 602 CB with one of the last high tops made. The high top is a great accessory, shame they stopped making it. Would like to have purchased the ECO, but it came out just after I got the CB. In our living room we have the Jotul F105 and I have never seen a stove give out so much heat from so few logs. Its not so easy to light as the 602, but in terms of economy it is incredible and the air wash works well keeping the glass clean. Jotul have to be the best stove manufacturers, there is no doubt in my mind. We stayed recently in a holiday rental cottage which had a steel stove, think it was an English manufacture and the heat was so uncomfortable, almost painful. Cast Iron gives off a more relaxing warmth.

We live in the UK & recently moved house after living with an old Jotel 602 for 22 years and WHICH WE LOVED! So we decided to buy the new F 602 ECO for the new house. I've only had 5 or 6 sessions with the new one and am very disappointed ... the only way to light the fire is the with front flap fully open and door open slightly too. (Instructions suggest - "you may have to leave the door open to light the fire") However even when the fire is going .. it will go out if you close the door (even with vent flap open.) THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD ... NOBODY SHOULD EVEN LEAVE A DOOR OPEN TO LIGHT THE FIRE ... LET ALONE NEVER CLOSE IT WHEN IT'S FULLY LIT! I'm not very happy as this fire is one of the most expensive on the market and isn't safe ... does Jotel have any advise?😞

After wearing out my previous Jotul 602 over the past 20 years I received my new 602 v2 and am looking forward to many days warmed by it here in Maine. I did notice that the fire box is an inch smaller in depth. The old one could almost take a 17" log and the new one will barely fit a 16".

How can I replace the door. I prefer the door of the older version as it gives more air to the stove. Is it possible to use the door of older version in the new 602?

What is the difference between Jøtul "F 206 ECO BP", "F 602 CB" and "F 602 V2". Can't find the first one on the (.no) webpage, yet I have purchased this heater, but might consider returning it if V2 offerns significant benefits.

Is the fire in the video being lit upside down because of the way in which air is fed into the fire from above?

I ended up purchasing the 602 CB, they are selling a 602 V2 now that meets the 2020 EPA guidelines. The 602 Eco must be a Euro stove. My 602 CB is a great stove just wish it was a tad larger.

The EPA cracked down on wood stoves up to 2020. You'll N OTICE that don't offer the Black Bear any more in the US. From two years ago, I saw that its numbers were. not as good as the 602 and I don't think they could get it any closer to the minimum requirement. Some parts of the country have periodic bans on wood burning stoves because of transient air quality. That three-fold convection/combustion/heating is probably a European model. AFAIK they only offer one model of 602 in the US now ... if you can find one. Stoves and parts seem to be in short supply nowadays.

The advice in the video to leave the door slightly open to assist the draft is interesting. There is no log guard on this model. I once left the room while the door was slightly open. When I came back to the room, a log had settled inside the stove and had fallen against the door. This had pushed the door further open. Embers could have been pushed out by the settling log. My previous Jotul 8 had a log guard to stop this happening. If a greater draft is needed, why doesn't the stove have a damper? The US version (602 v2) of my 602 Eco seems to have a damper built in to the door.

SOLVED! I bought a new F602 door, the kind that has a sliding damper at the bottom of the door. The fire now gets going faster, and newly loaded logs catch fire sooner, without having to leave the door open. The door cost £219 new. I found that the geometry of the hinges and pins was the same as the door on my F602 Eco so the new door fits perfectly. Also, I no longer make any use at all of the 3-position damper/lever under the front shelf of the F602 Eco. I just leave that lever on the middle setting permanently. I realise that I may have rendered useless some of the cunning features they added to do with 'eco' this and that. The new door has a long box along the inside top - anyone know what that does? One drawback with the new door is that the sliding knob on the damper in the door has all the action in just a small range of movement. So to move it accurately you have to grip it whereas on other Jotuls you can just flick the damper and not worry about burning your fingers (cue comment from Jo on basic safety! :) )

Dear Jotul: At about 58sec in this video you show the three holes at the foot of each side for letting air in during ignition. Although I don't allow very much ash to collect, it still looks like ash will be falling into these holes - they are only about 20mm above the floor of the stove. Does it matter if ash falls into these holes? Should the space behind the holes it be cleaned out each year? If so, does that mean that I not only need an annual visit from a chimney sweep but also need an annual visit from the Jotul installer? Thank you, Chris (F602ECO from October 21; Jotul 8 from June 85)

Ignition and combustion air come from the valve (Europeans use outside air for these heaters, this gets connected with an adapter piece to the bottom valve) The other air intake (the one I believe you are talking about) is for convection heating of the room, this air doesn't come in contact with the burn chamber.

@@davidt6849 Hi David - I should have said I'm in the UK. External air vents are optional here and I don't have one fitted. The video says that the air taken in at the bottom vent is used in three systems. One of these systems ends in the three holes on each side of the fire bed that I referred to. They are described in the video at about 58sec and are not the same as the system for convection heating of the room to which you refer. My question is: does it matter if ash falls in to these holes?

In this video, fire lighters are used. If these are made from fossil fuels, that seems retrograde. In 40 years of lighting wood stoves, I have never needed to use firelight3ers. I find that newspaper and kindling do the job.

@@SheepyHollowCanada What do you mean please by 'fixing the outside door'? The front door on my 602 Eco (UK) has no damper (vent). I am thinking of trying to improve the draft by getting a door with a damper at the bottom - I think the US 602 v2 has a damper at the bottom - just need to find out if the door has the same dimensions and hinges as my 602 Eco. I find at present it can take 20 mins to get going well. The flue is Ok - brand new. The draft is excellent once there is a good blaze going.
