Hello. I am Karl, owner of Karl's Handyman Services. I started out doing handyman work about 10 years ago and have now progressed to larger remodeling jobs. My specialty is to go into remodeling situations and figure out how to install something new into an old framework. I also have become specialized in creating unique storage solutions for basements, garages and other interior storage spaces.
What I am going to attempt to showcase on this channel is a few examples of some of my work and how to do the out of the box stuff. This process is just in it's beginning stages. Karl

Hey Karl. I thought I would drop you a message to say I've enjoyed the videos here and hope all is well with you. Kind regards from a fellow Karl.
You biggest mistake was getting stuff from home depot , lol.
What is the black product you used on the top of the pressure treated lumber?
It is a product called G Tape. It comes in different widths. There are a couple of places online to buy it. It is great stuff.
@@karlshomeremodeling123 thank you, another question, how do you remove a cortex screw when in won’t seat down all of the way? I have a few I can’t back out
Is that untreated wood?
It appears to be Timbertech composite “whitewash cedar” not pvc but a tough composite
Timbertech's composite boards -- like Legacy -- need pre-drilling. Their AZEK PVC boards do not. (I would recommend everyone read the company's installation instructions for your specific line. There are lots of important details, such as this one. Reading them will save you time and money.)
Well sir FYI, I read all of the information I could find on the installtion process for my type of Timbertech boards. These boards are part of Timbertech's line up before they were bought out by Azek. I was not using Timberteck PVC Azek boards, they were Timbertech composite which is a different material than Azek PVC and does work the same Azek PVC boards when drilling using the cortex plugs. I have installed Azek decking prior to this using the cortex plugs without pre-drilling and never had a problem.. Thank you for your comment.
@@karlshomeremodeling123, fair enough. I only bring it up because read Timbertech's installation PDF two days ago, and they clearly state that composite boards need to be predrilled, but PVC did not. I hope I did not offend; I was just trying to be helpful, as you are.
Hello, I'm making a barn door for my closet. My wife wants a mirror on the door. What type of glue or adhesive do you recommend?
Whenever you are gluing a mirror to any surface you always should an adhesive called mirror mastic. Never use any kind of panel adhesive as it will react with the silver glazing on the mirror and you will see the adhesive through the mirror. Also get some industrial strength 2 sided tape to put around perimeter of mirror to hold it in place until the mastic cures. The place I found this tape is at glass/mirror supply place. The tape should be black.
@@karlshomeremodeling123 Thanks for your info. I will ask a glass company on my location. Amazon might even have it.
Thanks for sharing. Which TimberTech Decking color is that?
Your welcome. I will check my paperwork and let you know. Thanks
The surface deck boards are Timbertech Whitwash Cedar and the fascia is Timbertech Ashwood.
Very helpful, thank you for honesty. You helped me so much! Your video is way better because it is way more realistic than other deck videos.
Very nice!
Hope this customer never sees this video of the man she’s paying to do work complain for 2:23 about doing his job... why would you even post this!? Not helpful at all to those of us looking for advice on removing arches from doorways.
I can understand your dismay about this video. I am still learning about posting videos and I am glad you brought this to my attention. I will endeavor to edit my comments about the customer and stick to explaining my process in accomplishing the job scope. Thats for your input.
great video Karl!
Thanks. It would really be nice if I knew what I was doing and knew how to properly take a video....lol
Karl, I once heard, as far as making videos goes, it's the content. Folkes are looking for tips and tricks, from a trades person.
Thanks. I make framing and i have the same problem but now i dont buy this laser. Do you have any recomendation
No its me who should apologise, I was out of order. Sorry

I guess we all have similar feelings in this construction, remodeling business. Of course my wife never really grasps this concept.
Every damn day for me "story of my life" hahaha
🤔
You should call this video “how to bitch about what a paying customer wants” not how to remove an arch. You clown.
Carl, you got double-sided tape and you're using mirror mastic. You did it right!
So, where is the part that you blend drywall into plaster?
It is where the wall meets the entry way door frame. Plaster is 3/4 thick, so to put 1/2 drywall on the wall so it meets the corner flush, you have to put 1/4" shims on the studs. I rip 1 1/2 strips out of luan underlayment.
Why do y'all talk so much
Where did you buy the mirror
Where did you buy the mirror
I think I got it at Lowes. It has to be a frameless mirror. HD might carry it as well.
Karl did you customize the mirror because I don’t see a size close to my door frame
@@thompsonlibrun1455 I will look back on my invoice to see where I got it from and get back to you.
@@thompsonlibrun1455 I got the mirror from a glass and mirror vendor I use. I cut a piece of cardboard to the dimensions that would cover most of the door without interfering with the door knob. After I got the size I wanted, I ordered the mirror from them.
Where is the vendor and how much was it?

Oh, Karl, I think I love you ! Can not believe I found you. Have similar project in mind. 3 mirrors (like yours but w/narrow frame) side by side, hung vertically on painted drywall. What type glue ? Would mirror mastic hold mirror tight to wall till glue dries ? Would value your pro advice !
Hello. Mirror mastic will work on drywall. A question for you is what are the dimensions of these mirrors and are they a standard off the shelf, thin mirror designed to go on a door with clips? Here is the rub. Mirror mastic takes at least 6-8 hours to set up and once it sets up, that mirror will not come off the wall. The problem is it needs to be supported until it does. If the mirror is light, two sided tape will hold it, but if it is heavy, you will need to install a decorative rail for the bottom that is level. This rail is just a J channel and is barely noticeable when mirror is up. After putting on the two sided tape and mirror mastic, you simply set the bottom of mirror in the track and then press it to the wall. I only have seen this track, special two sided tape and mirror mastic at a mirror and glass supply place. Don't use any other adhesive because it will eat away at the etching on the back of the mirror.
Also, get some blue painters tape and rip off 3 or 4 pieces of tape and stick them to the wall next to where mirror will go. Then when you push mirror tight to the wall, use these pirces of tape to temporarily hold it until mastic is set.
Yes, standard lightweight mirror. You just confirmed my plan, but needed you to tell me that it would work. Terrific ! BTW someone at a glass shop sugges ted using glaziers grade mirror tape, more than strong enough fo the job. They use it for glass tiles, molding, etc. I will stick with my man, Karl. We know your way works. Thanks, bro !

I have a Dodge caravan and it's 2016. I'm Paying it off fast but I'm really not happy with how everything ends up after a couple of days of work. Been thinking getting a used commercial van or just finish paying off the Dodge and build it out for my needs. What would you do knowing what you know today ?
No how to just bitchin.
I dont understand what you mean. Are you saying I am just bitching about the work?
@@karlshomeremodeling123 that's exactly what you are doing, you didn't explain how to remove the archway.
@@VICMANROQ You know, you are right. That is exactly what I am doing. Sorry about the misleading title. I will change the names of these video series to something else. Thank you for your comments, they are greatly appreciated.
Hey Karl, I just came looking for info to blend new drywall to some kind of cement board in a mid century Cape Cod I'm working on. I heard you say you used a diamond blade in your oscillating tool to cut the metal and plaster. I just picked up the new Milwaukee M12 3" cut-off tool (bare tool) with a 6ah battery (sold separately). It comes with a 3" diamond blade. It has a quick-attach dust collection ported guard, so I threw a fine dust filter in my wet/dry vac (dust extractor if you have one) and sliced 40' of cement board without any dust. It really gets in there tight, tighter if you take the guard off. The high RPM makes it a lot faster than the oscillating tool over long distances. Thought you should know it was well worth it.
I had a Fein multi tool, and that died. I sent it to be repaired and needed a back up. I bought a Bosch because this new model has higher rpm than my Fein. I did try the cut off diamond wheel, but I ended up using this new Bosch. I am glad you found something that works for you.
Did it work. I'm about to do the same thing.
Yes it did. The two sided tape I use I get from a mirror and glass supply place. I use two sided tape because it takes a while for the mirror mastic to set up.
what a dumbass
For a transition to an existing surface, like plaster, existing drywall that is not going to be re-painted, texture finish, brick, just about anything that you don't want to mess up with joint compound, try cutting a narrow strip of drywall, maybe 4" wide, putting a bead of caulk on the square edge that's going up against the existing finish, and screwing it on with just enough force to make a perfect corner. The joint on the other side can easily be taped and the existing surface won't get messed up.
This doesn't tell how to at all.. lol
Uhhhhhhhhhhh.... Lol.

Where is part one?
Hello. Sorry about that. I forgot to make it public. Check it out again and you will find it. Karl
Very nice set up. It's always nice to have all your tools organized and utilize all the space. I do all kinds of residential and commercial maintenance, and your van would make me so happy.
Thank you. I would love to have a much larger van, but sometimes having smaller spaces to work with, forces you to be creative as you can see by some of the other work van videos.
Karl, why the hell wouldn't you just edit the rest of the clip into the video in the form of a transition? I can't trust your judgement on anything now that you made this horrendous decision...
Thank you for your input. I would love to edit all of these videos, but simply I don't know how to do it. I know there are a lot of ways to edit and splice all of these together, but I don't have the time to get into it. Some day when I have time, I will learn how to do it.
Hi Karl, I want to apologize. You don't deserve that kind of criticism with that tone. I hope you can figure out the video editing aspect of your video production because I can tell you are just trying to educate people. Sorry man, best of luck to you.
What is the double sided tape and why would you use it?
@@caryfeasel6712 double-sided tape is extremely strong and durable and it won't release if put on 2 dry surfaces. Glazer's use it on their mirrors to help hold to the wall before the mastic sets up.
funny how the overspray looks like it's hitting your garage door but I guess it didn't (it's not Black)
where's the unit it goes into?
You know, I never got any video to show the finished product installed. My bad. Since I did that shelf for her for that TV cabinet, she had me install her TV on the wall.
that's funny, and she paid I hope...
nice and neat work....👍
Thanks for your comments. I know this is a little late in coming, but haven't had the time to devout to keeping an eye on my channel.
