Initiated in 2014, the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) Digital Fabrication aims to revolutionise architecture through the seamless combination of digital technologies and physical building processes. Over 60 researchers from six different academic disciplines collaborate to develop ground-breaking technologies for tomorrow’s construction. Their research allows Switzerland to take a leading position within the global field of digital fabrication. The NCCR Digital Fabrication is the first NCCR focused on architecture and construction funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). Initiated at ETH Zurich, it is partnered with EPF Lausanne, Empa and the Bern University of Applied Sciences.
NCCRs are cross-disciplinary research networks funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). They support research in areas of strategic importance for the future of Swiss science, economy and society.

The technology is absolutely amazing but the demo is lacking. Why use 600k equipment to build a crate that two Polish dudes can put together in a few hours for 500 dollars.

If one look past often grandiose declarations (particularly known) architects make about their profession, those most satisfied with their job tend to be dim witted science wise and university education is all amalgamation of art/history/english majors. I regret graduating with this pussy degree where architects office environment can be very petty & stifling. If you honor STEM, best to stay away. Cream does not necessarily rise to the top in this profession i.e. you have to be buffoonish and sell yourself. Also many so called known architects are not from best undergrad schools including this ding dong Foster fella. That should tell you something.

From my biases, That “perspective change” is translated like this: Just like in the 1700 when the renaissance of industry took over many peoples day jobs, unless we change the way we give people salary/how people make a living, we might face the same problem today: That millions of millions of builders worldwide will need a “perspective change” is just a very nice way of saying that they need to find an other profession real fast, because they are no longer needed.
