Frugal Queen in France

Frugal Queen in France

Frugal Queen in France.

Welcome to our channel. We are Jane and Mike, British early retirees living in France. We live a thrifty debt and mortgage free life and love every minute of it. On our channel we share: money saving, thrifty living, home cooking, budgeting, simple living and everyday frugality. We put out three videos every week at 5pm Paris time. Wednesday is our mid week money chat which has a financial focus. Friday is all about food and saving money in the kitchen from meal planning to cooking an affordable homemade meal. Sunday shows a personal side of our life and can be anything from a budgeting video to a free day out somewhere in our part of France.

Follow us on Instagram for a glimpse behind the scenes.

here in 🇨🇦 we don’t eat goose (our national bird: Canada Goose), years ago we bought a small pre-lit artificial xmas tree, we don’t buy xmas gifts for friends/family instead we gather with friends/family where we draw names and each person at the gathering gets a “secret santa” gift. We alternate the hosting duties for which family household hosts xmas dinner, we don’t go out for xmas dinner

We recently bought a house with a woodstove. (We also have electric heat.) I will say the entire process has been a huge learning curve: how to buy wood economically, even kindling, building a good fire. Never had the opportunity to do this before but we have taken the last year and learned so much. Now we have a half cord of wood for next year and we have collected a lot of kindling as well. Feels so good to know how to offset our electric heating bill next winter! I can do glad to learn new frugal skills!

Such lovely places, and that was so nice of the cafe to invite people to eat their own food on the patio. Smart too, as the sight of people around the place will attract more customers.

in our country, certain banking institutions discourage saving money longterm, those banks charge “dormancy” fees etc.. You really have to regularly review all your long term savings accounts to protect your hard-earned savings. ❤ 🇨🇦

My husband calculated our experiences are up 10 thousand for the year. That's medical, home and auto insurance. Also taxes and food, gasoline, clothing. That being said I'm still careful with our spending. Our insurance, taxes, gasoline we can't change.

Thank you so much for bringing us the tour of these priceless places. Among many things, I was struck by the pristine cleanliness....I saw not even an errant leaf, let alone any trash of any kind. The pride of the people living there is something to be admired and celebrated. They are such an example for everybody else.

Such a beautiful view and wonderful commentary. Thanks so much! You have given me a new word: half-timbered. My mother's hometown had public buildings built in that style, with local timber and limestone. They referred to as "Bavarian" because of the immigrants who brought the style.

The streets seemed so uncrowded! What time of the day were you there? Or is it that both were tourist areas so things would have been quite different a little later in the summer? It's dull and rainy here on the Eastern U.S. so it was good to escape a bit on your stroll through this historic area.

I see why that town was voted most beautiful. I love old stone buildings. They have a part in Quebec City that people call old Quebec City with all the old stone buildings and as I write this I remember that there is a place in Montreal they call old Montreal too. I love to visit those places and all the old churches are beautiful too.

We are fine because we have no debt and our boys are grown. I do meal plan and mostly buy only the Buy one/ get one free items and shop on senior day for another 5 percent off. I go to two different stores and buy their loss leaders. It takes some planning but it is worth it and I am retired. Don’t shop for pleasure or boredom. Only buy needs. Our Social Security is enough to pay our monthly expenses so we use a little of our 401K for trips. My main concern is what the future cost will be if either of us will need Assisted Living. Those costs have skyrocketed. We lived thru the 70’s with higher inflation than this. We have seen so many ups and downs in our 77 years.
