I wonder will this generation understand the importance of physical back up is the main reason to school film, maybe is something you only understand by heart when suddenly you loose must of your pictures without doing anything wrong cause your hard drives died all at once, and you end up with your film rolls from 30 years ago.

Nice content ! My solution for inexpensive film usage is to shoot...b&w only + caffenol (since i keep it around 16 days/ 8 bobins, caffenol is a good deal compared to rodinal) For color, i look for specific sensor & color science from the 2000's, which keeps me away from nowadays expensive color films Hence the Canon 5Dc

I bought my 5D classic about 5 weeks ago now. I’ve been wanting a full frame for a while and once I read about this camera from reviews and other’s experiences I was sold. I found the perfect package: camera, 50 1.4, grip, two batteries, and sd card for $440. I’m big on film photography and enjoy how it captures colors as well. Just like you said it’s been a learning experience especially with how you gotta sacrifice on what you want to be dark and light. I’ve hardly used my Fuji XPro3 since getting it. I’m wanting to get a 35 f2 eventually, it’s an awesome camera!

The gap in time between the 5D launch and today (2024) is the same as the gap between its launch and 1986. 1986 saw the launch of the Canon RC 701 (Basically the great grandparent of DSLR cameras, although it used videotape technology). The Canon RC 701 was outdated almost immediately (0.3Mp equivalent) but the fact that the 5D is still totally relevant today (it's still a superb camera, with colour science better than many 2024 cameras) is amazing. Canon knocked it out of the park with the 5D. They got it so right. I just bought an absolutely mint-perfect one for $220 US. At this price I don't understand why every photographer just doesn't buy one. I have to stop myself from buying them all. One day they will be so collectible. Grab a good one before the Hipsters hear about them.

But alas with all the different sensor formats we have now, one factory not considered here is sensor format. This makes a BIG difference when you talk about a particular focal length. A 50mm is considered normal for the full frame genre but is telephoto on an APS-C. With out this factor compared, it's not all that helpful.

Don't overthink this. We can lean to certain focal lengths, but my experience is that you can change your preferences based on frequently shooting it. I used to love 50mm, and when I changed systems I had a 35mm I liked and I leaned to that, then I loved 85mm for a while, then I wanted to try a Leica Q3 and 28mm and that became very natural. Point is that creativity is inspired by constraints... where you stand, what you see, and what you can predict is based on practice...

I really enjoyed your interviews with the other photographers, and how they use different focal lengths. It would be nice if you could follow them and see how they use it live with you recording. There are some channels that do POV style of how they use their camera, but a 3rd person view with some interaction is still not that common.

Good job of making a 135mm look like a much, much wider lens! Would like to have seen it exploiting what only a 135mm can do, though. My favorite street photography length is 40mm. But I'm very likely to go out with a telephoto, using it AS a telephoto, on my next outing.

Great photos, especially your B&Ws. I’m torn on this ZF. I immediately jumped to preorder it when it was announced. But when i was able to hold it and use it at a store’s demo event, i was really put off by the poor grip or ergonomics. I do have the 28 mm and 40mm primes so could rely heavily on those. I’m waiting to see what the Z6iii will be and cost, then probably decide between them. Was using Fujis for a few years but moved on to Nikon Zs and have been much happier with experience and results. Question - are you using highlight priority exposure in many of these pics? Seems like you work the highlights well.

Love your shots, and I have a very similar setup. I bought a 5dc in the last months and have been shooting a variety of vintage glass. My favourites are a Takumar 55mm 1.8 and a OM Zuiko 50mm 1.8. Both are very cheap and excellently made so they focus really smoothly.

I've been hunting about for feedback regarding the WCL X70 on the X100V, and honestly, this video sold it for me. Between 7:00 and 9:10, I really see the lens shine for what it's designed for, and that's those sweeping shots of the land juxtaposing the seemingly tiny people you see in frame, making the scene feel so much larger than life. What I am surprised about is that you relied so heavily on AF. MF is paramount, especially if you want to tap into the greatest potential for your X100V. Focus peaking is wonderful for that (I have mine on low yellow - also available on the Nikon ZF since I'm aware I'm a year late for this party). You'll find you have it eventually set to similar distances over time and make minor tweaks as you go - depending on the scene - making the process a lot more seamless. All in all, great video; a few wonderful results from your journey. Thank you so much Dan.

The closest thing to a deal breaker with this camera is that cursed flippy screen. I hate it with a red hot passion and it definitely detracts from the user experience significantly. And my hate is worsening over time so I might opt for the Z6iii if they don't mess it up with a flippy screen, too. A flippy screen on a stills retro camera? What were they thinking?
