    Google Orbit 54190N Sprinkler Head, 1/2 in Connection, FNPT, 20 ft, Plastic Like $3.49 each - I suggest getting like a dozen to justify shipping. You'll need them. Maybe available locally! Google zinc sprinkler spike base Same, or cheaper, possibly from same warehouse. Maybe Home Depot! 1 - 10-foot pvc pipe at Home Depot, cut into thirds (one 3.33' piece for each sprinkler you will ever have to make); One fitting to go onto each end of the pipe that has 1/2-inch NPT thread on one end and is slip-onto the 1/2" PVC pipe on the other - they're like 50 cents! PVC Primer and PVC glue - Each about 4-5 bucks and your Home Depot guy can explain the TACKtics. Ha Ha I had typed out about a 4-minute read all about this butt YT would not accept links in my case and then I accidentally deleted it. Sigh. You need to water X 1000!!!😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 Create a Whizzer sprinkler and feed it H20 to EACH plant for like 20 minutes+ at about... well, soaked well...several times a week. You have no watering system in place and it'll be a drag when they are 40 X 30 feet. No wind protection. Little water/container/(in some's) care will result in a little plant. You have the CARE down. DRY, windy conditions, always and your plants are like solar evaporators. What is your MG formula? Forget that hose-end, variable-concentration method. Yellowing from nutrients being sucked outta the previous growth to feed the new growth. Worry about the entire plant. Don't be happy with the bare minimum you get. MG/W/MG/W/MG/W, etc. you choose the break days (2, 3) at the regular, 1 TBSP per gallon H2O dosage, and you NEED to get a 55-gallon barrel(s) to feed this from. I use 24-8-16 presently. And a pump. Have you ever seen a top grower with no drip lines nor overhead sprinklers...? Google that barrel>>>They can be had for 20 bucks, I see! I should order...No, I have 2 for free from a neighbor. PS---Don't Stop The Ferts! Fertilize right AFTER a rainy day. If NOTHING else, get an oscillating, sweeping sprinkler and keep it on, massively. Whizzers are SO much more fun!!! MY main problem, year after year, is that I start everything too late, OR if on time, problems arise! I need to invest in ALL these supplies, with my newly-limited water supply. Sigh. Later---unohoo---pp

    I actually do have two impact sprinklers on a timer with solenoid valve and a pump with relay (since the patch is a far cry from the house). I just haven't set them up yet in the patch. I've had the timer thing on the other side of the garden. The setup you're describing is exactly what I'm putting into place within the next week or so with Master Blend fertilizer once the fruits set. I'm getting a barrel from a family friend for free and have a mixer siphon coming tomorrow. I'm going to mix the MB in at 12x. The siphon is 16:1 but I've been told that if I go the full 16 there's a possiblity of clogging the siphon tube. It works out that they actually need 26 minutes of the sprinkler (at least) every day to get the right amount of water. Right now I'm just soaking the ground around the plant with my hose. But yes, the plants are getting bigger and it's almost time to set up the sprinkler rig. I should point out that the way that our soil looks on the top doesn't tell the whole story. Sometimes the soil will look very dry but if I stick my meter in the ground, it will say that the soil is WET. You can water a bunch in the morning, but by afternoon the top of the soil looks like a desert. That's just how it goes here. There's also a number of insecticides/fungicides that I'm using. I just haven't talked about any of that stuff on the videos because most other growers have an even more sophisticated setup than I do.

    @@steves_garage Okay - Cool and of course, best of luck with them! I was mowing the lawn across the road and was surprised that with all the rain I got it still was a dust bowl into the gravel between hours-apart downpours. I'm great at putting off stuff due to inclement weather and it's probably nice out there by now! My FRC (Floating Row Cover) Greenhouses make my plants take off and I'm at that stage now. • @justlooking6898

    I'd hafta say that the oldest leaves are probably the most beneficial to the plant, although I do not know for sure; There has to be a point at which they stop using resources to develop and begin to 'give back'; A lot of things in life relate to others in life in a different form or circumstance, I am sure. I'm growing giant-headed sunflowers and see right next to one a weed that has the SAME height, same leaf pattern and so forth and yet I wanna pull the weed, but the SF is SO desirable, lol. Anyway, I get a kick out of the giant leaves that form at the ends of terminated vines. You are correct in thinking to pinch off a vine whenever you want to by doing so to the 'elbow' or growing tip only, leaving one giant leaf-to-be and IIIIIIIIIIIIIII always take out the tendril, sec or tert vine shoot and any flowers at that point as well - also doing this to the next 2 or 3 'assemblies' up the vine as well, to make them think twice about taking off on me also, lol. eg 🎃

    Very innovative with the Ho(e)s! Hey, we're all grownups here, lol. Another thing is that once you get a full-sized piece of plywood or whatever, you can then early-on either drill massive holes in it or corner cuts or anything really 2 enable U to pull (or push!) on the pumpkin's final resting place. That is if it's a better fit than moving it on the sand, butt you have come up with a great idea. I do not believe that letting the PLANT grow to fill in space is the thing to do at the moment. You'll be spending money to make less money. If 1375 can be grown in 150 SF, that's because of alllllllll the little secrets otherwise that can be incorporated other than just...a big, filled-in plant. Oh, I'm one to talk! eg

  • @steves_garage
    @steves_garage11 ай бұрын

    Well the plant is now suffering from a bit of what looks like DM. I may lose leaves faster than I can get new ones if I can't control it. I have started mancozeb so we'll see how that goes. Hey since I've been using MG this year, think you can get me a discount? Har Har Har!

    Nicely done. I think I asked on another videos but this one is more recent. When you pollinate a quality pumpkin plant to keep those good genetics do you pollinate with male flowers from the same plant or a completely different plant?

  • @steves_garage
    @steves_garage11 ай бұрын

    You can do either. A lot of growers like to cross pollinate between two well known seeds and some will actually grow certain seeds ONLY to use as a pollinator. I however did not do that because I had this one plant so this one was pollinated with its own males.

  • @brandonmonroe7050
    @brandonmonroe705011 ай бұрын

    @steves_garage awesome. I was just worried about inbreeding depression which may not even be a thing with squash. Either way selfing the plant should lock in those vigorous genetics even if I have to over plant to find them later

    Also just a thought, but if you want to, consider growing a test patch of strawberries and spraying the small patch of ground with that water retaining clay after spreading azomite clay(don't breathe rock dust/particulates) on top of them after planting them. Honey mesquite been pods have also been said to taste like candy so I'd think about starting then at the same time and vining the strawberries on them

    i recommend using anything with high nitrogen and phosphorus, like egg shells along with bone meal, shrimp or crab shells and skins, burnt cucumbers, or rotten mushrooms. put these in your soil and that pumpkin will get HUGE. Just MAKE SURE you rotate it back and forth and try to keep it off the ground after it sprouts to reduce the chance of it rotting before harvest. Last year we had 4 that were over 40 lbs and took 6 months before they started to rot. GOOD LUCK.
