Late Night Accordion Musings (Chauncey Canfield)
Late Night Accordion Musings (Chauncey Canfield)
I'm Chauncey Canfield and I started this channel to capture my late evenings: primarily unedited playing on various #accordions, #melodeons, performing lots of freeform improvised stuff and covering songs I love from all eras.
#instrumental #cover #cottagecore #bardcore #solo #acoustic #unplugged. I perform a weekly improv set every week with the "Will It Folk" (or "Will it Box?") theme and nothing is really off limits.
Subscribe to the channel to be alerted when the random unannounced livestreams happen
These are all my "arrangements" (spontaneous improvised versions that change ever time) I get requests for written down versions, but they don't exist. This channel started as a way to 1) observe my playing so I could 2) track my progress and improvement while self-teaching myself a new instrument in 2021, so I was doing a lot of "warts and all" livestreams.

So great. You really should release these!
Thanks!! Maybe someday if I can figure out all the legalese and licenses…
Nice stab at it. Gives me inspiration to work on this piece on my accordion. Many thanks!
@@811birch thanks!! Give it a go!
wow✨✨✨✨
Thank you!!
That's awesome dude! Love David bowie
Thank you!! He’s one of my favorites as well.
@@ADudeAndHisBox you're welcome!! <3
Nice playing! This is one of those tunes that really shows what rock can be.
Thanks! Yeah It is one of the more complex and challenging songs out there-just recently got comfortable enough to give it a try.
@@ADudeAndHisBox Yeah, it's a tricky one. I don't know whether you saw my attempt at it a few weeks ago ... I'm less of a perfectionist!
Dudeee. This slaps💕🔥more aphex please.
I didn’t think my obsession with this song could grow until I got to hear it on my favorite instrument. ❤
Thank you!! I’ve been meaning to do this one for some time, so glad you found it!
Beautiful. This song pulls me apart no matter which instrument I hear it on. I can imagine you sitting by yourself and playing this song, remembering a bittersweet memory.
Thank you so much!! Playing most Radiohead for is a very deep abstract experience where you get into a zone of sound. I want to find an outdoor space with natural reverb to play it in.
Have you heard thé track Flowers by Miley Cyrus? Could translate well to the box.
Must give it a listen…
Chauncey my man, you must have a couple of albums worth of cover material by now. I remember Yazoo, though not this particular track, cool arrangement as per usual my friend, keep em coming!!!
Thanks, as always, James!
Yazoo had a number two in 1982, but in 1983 the Flying Pickets had a number one with this gorgeous a cappella version kzread.info/dash/bejne/o5t4rdaFgNOaZtY.html
I vaguely recall that version! Thanks for reminding me about it!
How does this not have over 100 views??? This is great!
Thanks!! I think I have totally stumped the KZread algorithm which has NO clue who to show it to. If only I could bring myself to use click bait titles and a picture of me looking shocked in my thumbnail photo 😂
Snakefinger does a great cover od this as well.
My fav Beatles song
Cool as always
Thank you!! Cheers!
Brilliant
This is amazing
Thank you!!
Fantastic work!
Thanks, Terry!! Always looking for the next cover suggestion if you have any.
Nice choice! And beautifully done, as usual.
Thank you for listening! No song is off-limits as long as it is one I like Any requests?
I would love to hear either of "What a Fool Believes" or "Rosanna." (I was gonna suggest "Peaches en Regalia," but listening to it again, a lot of it's monophonic, so it might not make the most of the instrument.)
@@ghostbassdavid I’m pretty close to having What a Fool Believes” as we’ve approximated it a couple times live upon request. Definitely in the hopper!
@@ADudeAndHisBox Wow, I look forward to it!
Hearing it on this instrument is on another level like there is this heavy melancholy feeling when I listen. keep up the good work.
Thank you for the kind words! It is very rewarding when I’m able to capture things like this and have them somehow find their way to you to create that feeling.
I was scrolling through YT Shorts-it’s nighttime and raining heavily-and this cover just transported me. Can’t thank you enough. Keep it up!
Wow, thank you! I do these mostly for my own entertainment but it is nice when they connect with people. Cheers!!
Awesome, I knew this song would sound great on an accordion!
Thanks!! Was it you that suggested it?
@@ADudeAndHisBoxYes 😊
Robert Habeck kann ja doch was.
А можно услышать и увидеть "Help"? От тех же битлов
i liked.
gorgeous rendition 💖
Thank you so much!!
Brilliant, one of my favourite songs
Thanks Ben!
this is awesome!! i am a fan of dudeandhisbox now, i think youre doing fantastic :-) as a 16 year old this is very impressive
Thanks so much!! Glad you’re enjoying it!! I’ve got a lot more song to post but am open to requests
I have very confusing emotions about this. Great job…I think 😂
I TOTALLY get that. I went back and forth on this one for months…should I or should I not do this?😂
Well, I’m glad you decided to. It made me smile.
@@ADudeAndHisBoxi managed to sing along you did great 😉
Can't here the melodies
I’ll keep working on it!
so cool dude!!
Thanks!!
Chauncey Reznor strikes again!
Awesome man 😊
Thanks Ethan!
Very nice! I've been wondering about I Can't Go For That, with its awesome instrumental layering. It's out of my reach for now, but have you attempted it?
Thanks! I freestyled it upon request on the fly once at our our weekly pub jam--haven't gone back and worked out a full arrangement, but it might be cool one for future post. Cheers!
"Weekly pub jam" sounds like the life. I haven't unearthed anything quite like that in my area yet. Anyway, yeah, keep at it. You're an inspiration.
wasn't this one of the last Joy Division songs ? i love early New Order the best.
Yes I believe it was. New Order did some nice revisits of Joy Division like this and Ceremony.
@@ADudeAndHisBox Ceremony is in my top 5 of all time favorite songs, i spend most days listening to Joy Division or Lush, with a little Bombpops mixed in,, i checked out your channel, you have pretty good taste is my 1 minute opinion.
One of the most gorgeous things ive heard on accordion, amazing work man. This really made me feel something ❤️
Thank you so much for the kind words! One of my favorite songs of all time.
Hey! Just found your channel, but what an introduction. Saw your short on this, but had to check out what else you posted. Not disappointed in the slightest to be sure, as these sound as good or better than the originals in some aspects. Keep doing amazing, glad to see the dedication and talent you have being demonstrated in every video you make
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a kind note! The channel started as a way to track myself learning a new instrument and then it took on a life of its own as I kept trying more and more songs and artists I love.
Well played, have you heard the live version Chris does with Lana del Rey, that's quite cool.
Thanks! Just checked that out-nice! I just noticed his solo version has over 600 Million plays to date on Spotify.
I FREAKING LOVE IT! ❤
Thanks for the suggestion! It is in our live repertoire now.
Beau Travail🎧🎬🙏🌌
Merci!
Don't listen to these comments, this song is enchanting.
Thanks for the kind words!
I wonder what Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine would sound like on your accordion or maybe Led Zeppelins Black Mountain Side? Just a thought?
Good ideas! Coincidentally enough, my mandolin partner and I played a couple of new impromptu Led Zeppelin tunes last night live -- "Fool in the Rain and "All of My Love." Another one "Going to California really works well too -- a crowd pleasing favorite.
Nice harmonies.
I agree with the other guy, you know how to pick a goodie Chauncey, must try to catch one of your live streams again if you're still doing them.
Thanks James! It probably comes across as a jumbled mess of genres and eras, but selections are driven by the sole criterion that I like the tune. I will probably start the public facing livestreams up again, but generally unannounced spur of the moment in the 11pm - 2am PST time slot. Cheers!
I'm a huge Smith's fan. This doesn't sound anything like the song.
Fair point -- I was going for more of an interpretation than a copy, but thanks for listening!
