    First find out the purpose of the training, and then say - this is not possible. While my shoulder hurts, I squat while standing on plates

    Does the squat plug count as a “machine accessory”? Asking for a friend 😱😭

    I’ve basically stopped squatting all together. In December I got up to a 405 squat at 205 is lbs. But I started cutting in January down almost 30 lbs and my squat absolutely tanked, but it was just the overall load my smaller size couldn’t handle and was not nearing failure in my hams and quads.

    Are you in the 93kg? I’m pretty sure 760 would be an IPF record for the class. I believe it’s 340kg/ ~748lbs.

    Even for beginner lifters who need to work more on building a hypertrophy base do you think they shouldn’t do machines and focus more volume on SBD?

  • @whiteou7.
    @whiteou7.2 сағат бұрын

    imo they definitely should do more machine work because they haven't developed efficient techniques for sbd yet so they can't push the worked muscle groups to failure. For example, if you have a weak brace on deadlift, your back will get fatigued first before you achieve any mechanical tension on hamstring and glutes.

    Yes, can still grow lots from sbd, and let machines fill in the gaps. They need to build their form too.

    1. Machines=/=isolations. There are machines that work multiple muscles. 2. What do you mean by "bro"? Surely you're not equating BODYBUILDERS to gym bros, are you? If you don't compete in powerlifting, you're a gym bro too. Why the special pleading fallacy? Any recreational lifter is a "bro". Doesn't matter what your goals are. Also, bodybuilders tend to have bigger legs than powerlifters; you even mentioned this. Why should we do disproportionate hypertrophy outside the big 3 for the upper and not for the lower? Doesn't make sense. 3. You are nearly 6ft. You're not filling out the 105s at 6ft. You are TOO TALL. Also, you have a shit ton of body fat that isn't needed for powerlifting. Yes, most powerlifters fail to hit the recommendations of Greg Nuckols (including Nuckols himself) of being 10-15% bodyfat, but they make up for being fat with a shit ton of tissue. Ashton Rouska may have a lot of body fat, but he more than fills out his weight class (he's actually SHORTER than the average 105 before someone says he's 102 or 103). Also, machines are equal for hypertrophy (and strength for that matter) to free weights. Not better. Not worse. The same. To what extent they carry over to your big 3 isn't relevant. Hypertrophy in key spots IS and there just isn't a difference to evade using machines over free weights. You can tell when a channel or person is bullshit by if they make machines out to be dubious. If they dunk on machines AT ALL, they shouldn't be listened to on ANYTHING. There is a difference between pointing out the FEW disadvantages of machines and dogging on machines full stop.

    @@funkydoggie6487Is what I say reasonable? If it is (and it is), then strength disparities aren't relevant. That's like saying if a bodybuilder says some bullshit, you can't critique him because he's bigger and has a better physique than you. Wrong is WRONG and right is RIGHT.
