I am trying to make guides that are short and only contain the necessary information to get things up and running. The thinking being: Once you have something that works, you are able to play with it and learn new things.

In the future i wish to do other types of projects where i explain more and also doing different things like simple robotics.

    Great video but after watching this and been testing around myself I just wanna inform that the video doesn't use any key and therefore no encryption is used, you can see there is a red shield and not a green one in top of the windows at time 7:38, to get it properly setup and get your green shield instead you must fill in the key in the client before connecting. A command to get your key: sudo docker logs hbbs | grep Key [2024-07-05 08:56:42.962076 +00:00] INFO [src/rendezvous_server.rs:1191] Key: ABCABCABC123123123 Then simply copy ABCABCABC123123123 to your client network setup. Thanks for the video and good luck.

  • @Divgitally
    @Divgitally2 ай бұрын

    It is absolutely possible to do with one nic, but you will need to set up one VLAN on your switch for WAN and one or more for your LAN side. Then, all VLANS need to be trunked to the port where your Proxmox and pfSense router is connected. All VLAN's need to be on the same physical interface you have on Proxmox. There are some others I have spoken with on the Discord server I set up that has done the same as you want to do. There is a link to it in the video description if you wish to hop on there. It is just a bit easier to follow up there. There are plenty of good routers and firewall's to virtualize and play with! OPNsense is similar to pfSense. OpenWRT is more of a router compared to the two others.

Do I need to start over to use proxmox with OMV and Cloudflare? I don''t expect a full how to as a response, but if someone could give me an order of operations or a map of how things are going to line up, I would be eternally grateful. I am trying to setup a home nas that I can sync my photos and videos from my phone when I am away from home. Technology stack: Odroid HC4 16gb sdcard 2x 4tb Ultrastar NAS Armbian direct on HC4 OMV 7 installed direct to Armbian on HC4 OMV plugin for photoprism already installed and running Purchased Photosync bundle/premium on android Already acquired Domain Cloudflare installed direct to Armbian on HC4 - supposed to be better/easier than running reverse proxy - Stopped setup when the guide told me to use proxmox, that was "already setup" Current status: The tutorial I found for cloudflare says I now need proxmox.... the proxmox tutorial says for me to install OMV from proxmox... @@teesec3978 ok. What you can do is setting it up like a router on a stick, but then what you need is a switch that can handle VLAN's. We have been through it with a guy doing something similar on the Discord server i set up. But in broad strokes, you set up something like VLAN 10 on 2 ports. one "access" for WAN and one "trunk" port with all VLAN's to use with pfSense. With pfSense up and running, create something like VLAN 20 for LAN that you set all other ports as access. I have done that to test myself, but I screw up to much to have that be a viable way so i just use a USB nic for either the management or WAN interface. For VPN you can take a look at tailscale or twingate. They can be a bit annoying at times, but useful when they work as intended.

Also what do I need to do physically on it like which port is required etc..?

  • @Divgitally
    @Divgitally3 ай бұрын

    Hello, there are a few ways you can set up pfSense or other firewalls to use at your home. I would recommend it if possible you would use another machine which can be on all the time, but that is up to what you want to do. When it comes to the ISP router, you can either disable routing on it and let pfSense handle that. This is called router on a stick. You can also do like what I have done and set the ISP router into bridge mode, which let's you use your own router as the only router, but then you need to have 2 network interfaces. If I get some more details on equipment and what you want, I can try to help say more about what you can do. Just as a side thing. ESXi is being removed from the homelab marked, so I would recommend Proxmox instead if you wish to virtualize you router.

    Hello! The way I run it at home is to just set the ISP router into bridge mode which makes it a dumb box that just passes through the signal and gives my virtual router the WAN IP. With that setup you will need an access point or a wifi router you can set into AP mode. You could in theory setup a OPNsense firewall and then have the DHCP server run there, but you would lose the function of the firewall and generate a lot of headaches for yourself. Best of luck to you!

    I only have one network card, so I can only create one bridge. Should I just add the same bridge twice to the VM?

    That is one way of doing it, but then you need to have another router like your ISP router be set as the gateway. This approach is called router on a stick.

    I have a ONT already to turn fiber optics into ethernet. I added the second bridge with VLAN tag 6 and it worked! I am wondering, you mention that’s one way. Which other ways is there to accomplish this with just one network card?

    @avillp if you want to use a virtual router, but only have one network interface, it is able to just have the ISP router be the gateway to route traffic to the web by disabling the DHCP server there, then setting that up on your virtual router

    Does this mean I won't have an internet connection if I set the gateway to the pfsense on each of my devices?

    That is correct. Sorry for the late reply! I would on pfSense set your router that is connected to WAN to be the gateway.

    or you can buy a cheap tplink manage switch and create a vlan dedicated for wan tag and untagged to pfsense vlan tag.

    Thank you for a short video that clearly explains what is in the subject! I'm stuck connecting a USB device from HP ProDesk400 box, through proxmox VE, to ubuntu server vm, and finally to be used with adb for reformatting an old Fire tablet. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello. Thank you for the message and sorry for the late reply! When I connected a phone last, it had to be open and I had to accept the connection from the phone to get it working. I have not had a Fire tablet, but it will probably have similar issues. I'm quite late now, but did you get it working?
