  The old locomotives need to be phased out because of their negative environmental impact ...but I'll always love the design of those firey iron beasts like Samson. Also, I don't know if it's because this animation is so "old" but I'm surprised there aren't a ton of Republicans screaming about this being "Woke" and "DEI forced diversity" for having a black family in it...

  according to the newspapers, this takes place between February and april of 1895 and in the first article, it states that Samson is decades ahead of his time which is true, it would take another 40 years for similar 4-8-4 locomotives to be made, the one that most closely resembles Samson is the D&RGW M-64 class which began manufacture in 1929. This goes double with the comically sized stoker, the first one was built in 1905. However the article about Rudolph Diesel's patent of the diesel locomotive is actually accurate to the times, as by the 1890s some of the very earliest models were made in Britain, in 1896 a model known as a semi diesel locomotive (or hot bulb engine) was built for the royal arsenal in Woolwich, this was a direct precursor to modern diesel locomotives. I could dive deep into the historic parallels with these news articles but that could be its own 3 page essay, overall, real good attention to detail writing those papers!

Because what are you still running for? On the vintage line? Retire yourself. I mean that, with a hundred pieces of coal. With a thousand passengers.
