Apes Like Us

Apes Like Us

Apes Like Us is the awareness and education outreach of nonprofit GLOBIO. Apes Like Us explores the places and issues we share with all great apes - gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans and bonobos - and the people and organizations trying to save apes, and what makes us all more alike than different. GLOBIO's Apes Like Us channel is created to share factual and accurate information about what is happening with, to and for apes, primates and their habitats, in our targeted Focal Regions where we work and around the world. See more about our Focal Region focus and international Program Partners at globio.org/about-globio/where-we-work/

    I don't get how someone could be so stupid that they hold a majestic creature captive as a poisoner in a cage and only feed them rice or something like it. Great apes aren't animals like dogs or horses. They are basically people and need the same things as humans do.

    I've seen hundreds of baby chimp rescues and this little fella is a toughy he's has that demeanor of confidence you can tell he will be a alpha in his group when he joins one, definitely old before his years, such a shame he hasn't had the love a baby chimp needs from his mother, he's stunning to look at very handsome baby chimp, you can see why people want them but they need to let them be or our world is going to regret losing these beautiful creatures.

    What this fails to recognise is that the NUMBER 1 driver for deforestation is clearing and burning to make way for pastures for livestock and crops grown and shipped worldwide to feed the billions of animals in factory and free range farms globally. Source: our world dats - drivers of deforestation and our world data - global land use. How we can help 1) Reduce or even better eliminate animal product consumption where practicable and possible (this BY FAR is number 1 deforestation driver and number 1 ocean dead zone driver) 2) Boycot palm oil ( second biggest driver) 3) Read lables and source sustainable products wherever possible We often think how dare these industries do this. However, what we forget is that Industry is fueled by supply and demand! The power to change these devastating environmental practices lies in each our hands. What will you choose to support? ☮☮💚💚

    Chimps fascinate me. I never get over how human-like they are in terms of intelligence and their grasp of social and group dynamics. Whenever I see a chimp, I see a variation of what we used to be and the possibility that one day they'll be where we are now thanks to the amazing craftsmanship of evolution.

    I'm so glad to see a little of these "baby"apes,playing & looking so veryhappy& "normal". In the begining of this video there's a small baby chimp, that looks so very SAD. He(or she) looked as though tears would follow, in a second or two.😢😮😢

    Thank you for these videos. I love the content but more so, I love the prompts for further research if the viewer is so inclined. Apes have always fascinated me and I've spent many an hour poring over raw footage of them that I've found. Thank you for creating content that the Cutesy crowd can enjoy but not forgetting about the scientifically minded folks as well. Cheers!

    There aren't three species of Orangutan, only one. Those are sub-species.

  • @ApesLikeUs
    @ApesLikeUs3 ай бұрын

    Hi there. Yes, these are 3 distinct species. There are further subspecies: Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) --Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus - northwest populations --Pongo pygmaeus morio - east populations --Pongo pygmaeus wurmbii - southwest populations Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii - Sumatra northwest of Lake Toba) Tapanuli orangutan (Pongo tapanuliensis - Sumatra south of Lake Toba)

  • @dl2839
    @dl28393 ай бұрын

    @ApesLikeUs I wouldn't consider those distinct species. I would consider them sub-species. The reason why they're so isolated is because the populations of Orangutans are drastically decreasing. If they weren't dying out, there would be populations of Orangutans between each other, and they would be considered one species like the American Alligator.
