Kubrick is superior to everyone visually but Tarkovskys gen has something thay rips your heart open......Kubrick visually and visionarily is miles ahead but hes no writer.....plus Stanley had access to waaay more resources for his movies....the Ussr had so many restrictions not only censorship wise but also technical.....Kubrick had Ipads in his movie 50 years ago:))) Steve Jobs copied from him😊 and he should have paid his family royalties

Tarkovsky is simply superior, it kind of hurts to say this, but Andrei was just on a whole other level of filmmaking no BS, Kubrick felt like a scholar in comparison. The only one who could go head to head with Tarkovsky was only Kurosawa, thats why to this day theyre my favourite directors!

Kubrick raises your awareness and addresses social, humanitarian, and philosophical issues , but tarkovsky ، Tarkovsky addresses the soul within you, and if you do not have one, he awakens it from death and makes it question your existence.

Coincido con la crítica, Kubrick es una pintura y Tarkovsky es un poema. Insuperables los dos, así se explica las escuelas rusa y norteamericana.

Kubrick is mediocre. I dont particularly enjoy Tarkovsky but he is a master of whatever it is he is doing. Kubrick lacks any kind of artistic inspiration, he is simply a very persistent nerd

Alatriste is full of references to Spanish painters. It's really a visual treasure trove. Also, "Witness" contains many visual callbacks to Dutch masters.

Andrei is a little better, considering his choice of location in full consideration of the time of the scenes, and considering that he showed his mastery with a lower budget than that of Kubrik.

As some commenters have already noticed, certain episodes in movies explicitly stage paintings, resembling tableau vivant (from French, meaning "living picture"), such as in the film Frida, for example. Cinematography is the perfect medium for this because it seamlessly transitions from static images to moving scenes, bringing them to life.
