Tarkovsky is simply superior, it kind of hurts to say this, but Andrei was just on a whole other level of filmmaking no BS, Kubrick felt like a scholar in comparison. The only one who could go head to head with Tarkovsky was only Kurosawa, thats why to this day theyre my favourite directors!

Kubrick raises your awareness and addresses social, humanitarian, and philosophical issues , but tarkovsky ، Tarkovsky addresses the soul within you, and if you do not have one, he awakens it from death and makes it question your existence.

As some commenters have already noticed, certain episodes in movies explicitly stage paintings, resembling tableau vivant (from French, meaning "living picture"), such as in the film Frida, for example. Cinematography is the perfect medium for this because it seamlessly transitions from static images to moving scenes, bringing them to life.
