Ya, it's the funnel that starts to smell so vinegar definitely works. I pop in a strong oil like peppermint or tea tree. Also, bilge paint for boats is great for painting the wood parts inside. I live on a sailboat so I had some handy. But it keeps smells and spills contained.

Thank you so much for this video. I have watched millions of electrical videos and I was in tears and so worried about this step in my conversion and this has made me feel much more confident 😊 Saved this video and will watch it a million times!!

8:12 This is super confusing ...you said you can't charge the Lead Acid batteries as many times as the Lithium but the graphic says _"3,000-5,000 cycles"_ and only _"300-500"_ for the Lithium

So I building out my bus and I'm approaching the electrical system build out, however it seems almost every uses solar and only explains how to wire/power your bus for solar. I'm not sure i can afford a good solar setup at the moment so i was planning on just using a generator and shore power. So I'm not really sure what all i need for that.

Awesome job young man. Best video I have seen to explain this. I wire homes and I needed to understand how the battery and solar portion worked with the AC breaker box. Great job.

Showing your diagram while explaining the connections and functions of each really helped me begin to understand the whole electrical system for a bus. I am still digesting all the great information and will doubtless have to watch the video at least two more times for all of it to gel. Thank you so much for taking the time to make the video and, as I mentioned before, for devising this clever way to present the diagram with the how-to details. Looking forward to Part 2. Great job!

Perhaps if you were to cut a disk out of cardboard just smaller than the inside diameter of the bucket. Put the bag in the bucket and the cardboard in the bottom of the bag. Might keep the bag off the agitator. Would want a new disk for each bag. Just a quick brainstorm. Would have to test.

This is gold. I've been talking to a lot of really reputable bus builders but what none of them seem to be able to go into in detail are these sort of fundamentals. Thanks for making the knowledge more accessible! You kind of lost me on the battery charger bit about why you run it off the transfer switch instead of running an extension cord to an a/c outlet outside the bus, but whatever. I learned a lot!

Its called a C-head and its what my Sprinter has. Unfortunately an ownership change at that company has turned getting a new c-head into a nightmare. As this video demonstrates, DIY is not that big a deal.

Building a bus for permanent living down here in Oz. Have just purchased a composting toilet after much deliberation on what style to use. Being permanent and not being able to easily just travel to a dump point the composting toilet won. It comes with 2 tanks so we can swap over to allow the 1st tank to further compost. Would love a incinerator setup, but they are way too expensive and not quite approved yet in Australia.

If you wanna get rid ofnthe smell you need to pull everything out of it, caulk all the corners, then use primer on everything on the inside and the top then use foam tape aound the wood lid and itll seal it completely. On the toilet lid seal use clear waterproof silicone itll create more of a rubber seal wich will press up and seal better than caulk. Just better fornwhat youre using it for. Caulk is more fornsealing gaps in wood ittings like trim to wall or backsplash to counter or in your case sealing diy wooden toilet corners. Hope that fixes it, super late.

I just had an idea about the agitator. What if it was designed like a flour sifter so that the agitator is u-shaped and was installed horizontally into a collar that fits the top of the bucket. The crank could then be on the side. You could still use a bag without compromising it.

  • @suzannecranford6819

I would try adapting a wine cork to fit the smaller part of the funnel. You could run a chain/cord through the top of it horizontally and connect that chain/cord to the side somewhere convenient so that it's easy to pull out before using the bathroom. I like your idea. It makes sense. I've been researching diy composting toilets because my bathroom is only 3' x 5' and is a dry bath with a rather large-ish vanity and small tub. The existing RV toilet is too large and I don't like the way it works, and all of the commercial composting toilets are also too large and out of my budget. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.

I use a Thetford Porta Potty 335 for #1. And for #2, I place a bag over the seat, take care of business and dispose immediately if possible. If not possible, the bag is tied and left outside my van until it can be properly disposed of. At first , I thought this system was great. Until the level warning stop working and I woke up to a flood of pee. The next thing to go was the rubber ring, who job it is to contain the smell. At first I though the cleaning products used to clean the potty was eating away the rubber ring. But the ring was also damaged by cleaning with vinegar and even plane water. I now believe that the urine is actually the causing damage to the rubber ring. In 2 years I have replaced it 5 times. Dumping the contents can be troublesome. You just can’t take it anywhere. And after 4 days, for one person, it needs to be dumped. The smell, no matter what people say, it smells! I’ve tried lots of things and the only thing that helps is a product called Fabulouso. I get the lavender scented. Since it is a cleanser, it help keep the container clean and smelling fresh. But by the four day , you know it time to dump. Weight is also a factor to consider. Once the container is full, it’s very heavy to carry. I have found there are pros and cons to every option available. Once must just decide which one you can live with. I’m researching other options at the moment and will most likely build my own composting toilet 🚽. Thanks for you video 👍🏼

Milk jugs aren’t design to hold urine. But a stronger container, like an iced tea jug would be better. Also closing the jug with the top would contain the smell. Whichever container one uses, it needs to be replaced weekly.
