This film made me cry and I am not ashamed to say it at all. I am from Sicily but grew up in a house that my grand parents bought from their good friends the Scalzos who were from Calabria. I grew up with the old Sicilians and Calabrese and it certainly left it’s mark on me and God bless the for doing that for me ! Those people are the reason that I never lost my love for my culture and thanks to them I got my Italian passaporto and will be moving back to southern Italy next year ! I don’t give a s… about money or the American hoax of a better life . The heritage, ancient history, and simply beautiful way of life mean everything to me and I intend to live out the few years I have left where my heart has always been and should have always been ! God bless you for doing this film, you have no idea what you have done for me! Bye the way, I have cousins in Calabria that I have never met and I intend to find them ! Sinceramento, Pasquale Ventura

Sacha, I was very happy to hear back from you ! When I return to Palermo, I hope to meet you and your beautiful family ! Tell them that I have tears in my eyes as I write this reply to you and your family . My very best friend’s father and mother are from Scilla and at one time owned the largest Salumeria in Brooklyn, New York. Her father’s name was also Pasquale ! Tell your family that my words were from my heart and that I was deeply touched by your reply ! Please stay in touch with me, it would mean a lot to me ! Pasquale Ventura

My last name is Fiumara ... I know my grandfather was born in Calabria… I know nothing more about it. I’m 78 years old. I would like to go back to this village, maybe that’s where my Gramps was from. He told my Father that they came to the US because they had little food to eat and the landowners took advantage of them .

Hello, and thank you for appreciating the authenticity of this region and its people, highlighted in my film. The french connection here is simple : Fossato Jonico is my wife's village. You can hear her voice as the narrator : the old lady in the film is here Nonna (grandmother, who just passed away a month ago at the age of 103.) We can see her father too at the beginning and her mother. We got married there 4 years ago :) And by the way, I am from France (Paris) but my father comes from Serbia (Belgrade).
