A poetic immersion in the heart of Calabria, the southernmost and poorest region of Italy. This documentary takes us through chronicles of life, in a village that lives almost as it did in the past. Ecological, poetic and wise chronicles to the rhythm of a summer 2020 in Calabria. A rich life, framed by values of friendship, hospitality and brotherhood, where people drink, sing, play the piano, paint and laugh, where nostalgia mixes with melancholy, which sometimes mixes with the pessimism of a duller present, but where optimism reigns supreme, despite everything.

I remember my father talking about this town when I was a child. I was born in Sambatello, don’t remember much I was 5 years old, my father was a Taylor, people didn’t have much money to pay Taylor’s then, we had to immigrate to Montreal. Love Reggio Calabria❤❤❤❤
My last name is Fiumara ... I know my grandfather was born in Calabria… I know nothing more about it. I’m 78 years old. I would like to go back to this village, maybe that’s where my Gramps was from. He told my Father that they came to the US because they had little food to eat and the landowners took advantage of them .

Hello, and thank you for appreciating the authenticity of this region and its people, highlighted in my film. The french connection here is simple : Fossato Jonico is my wife's village. You can hear her voice as the narrator : the old lady in the film is here Nonna (grandmother, who just passed away a month ago at the age of 103.) We can see her father too at the beginning and her mother. We got married there 4 years ago :) And by the way, I am from France (Paris) but my father comes from Serbia (Belgrade).
Complimenti, davvero ben fatto!
Your film was wonderful. I have lived in Toscana for over a deacde now. I love Italy because I love the spirit of most Italians. I have never been to Calabria, but I lived in a borgo in the hills of the Alpe Apuane for a long time, and village life is very interesting haha. God bless.
Magnifique et émouvant !!
Beautiful documentary ❤️ Viva Calabria.

@@sachabodiroga9 hi Sacha sad video even tho was more like a documentary. I could feel the loss and pain in their souls. It seems like they are ready for their graves what is your heritage?

@@maxsavage3998 Thank you for your poetic message. I am from France, I married Flavia in this village in 2019. All her ancestors are from the village Fossato jonico. The voice-over is her, and we see her father at the beginning, her mother in the middle and her grandmother at the end. Her grandmother has just died at the age of 103 (the lady on her balcony at the end...) And the old man at the beginning died last year... @@sachabodiroga9 hi Sacha im sorry to hear about their loss i lost an uncle in his 90s from old age home in calabria after the shot. I know what those old people are going through i can feel it in their soul. The difficult life and full of hardships letdowns and loss of family they went thru from since they were born. Fossato Ionico is in another hidden area of southern Aspromonte. Different dialect too. Its has a drier more rugged landscape Have you ever thought of doing a documentary in Fossato as well.? Its near montebello ionico and has the amazing Byzantine Niceto Castle and the strange serrated mountains of prastarà. They should be protected. Try the local honey around MelitoPS and Pentedattilo its supposed to be amazing. Can i guess your heritage is originally Polish Hungarian or Bulgarian?

@@maxsavage3998 Hello again ! This Documentary was shot in Fossato Jonico :) the title "Fiumara" was a reference to the dry fiumara river near the village.
