here is a question for you as you probably know in new installations anti freeze is frowned upon it seems possble that a fire hose can be attached to the sprinkler system so my question to you is could a dry sprinkler system be attached to a fire hose valve to function as a dry hose valve? thoughts please thank you
@Fredengle thank you for the question and we hope this answers it for you - Yes, you can have a dry pipe system with a hose connection, similar to a setup in a parking garage where there's a hose attachment on each floor. However, an antifreeze system will not have a hose attachment. it's more typically used in localized applications, like a hotel foyer or over a garbage crusher.

Why do you disassemble the valve _after_ testing its function? This way there's no opportunity to notice that the reassembly is incorrect in a way that reduces flow.
I thought that you also had to use a rubber mallet to loosen the powder inside the extinguisher from settling during the last 12 months. No?

What tool is used to reach lights without using a ladder?
For monthly inspections, our techs use an extendable paint pole with a screw in the end to reach higher exit & emergency lights.
Only reliable and victaulic make a pre action “valve”. That particular system you have is a tyco and Viking is the same thing. They don’t make a pre action “valve”. There systems consist of a deluge valve with a check valve on top of it for the supervisory air which also consists of having a solenoid valve to make it single interlock and some have dry pilot actuators right after the solenoid to make it a double interlock.
Any chance you could cover inert gas systems?

Yes, there is a way to test the flow switch and not trip the valve. Depending on where you live and the regulations in your area, we recommend to have your inspector there to perform the test.
1 Put the system on test call alarm company. 2 close the piv or backflow valve. 3 close the control valve. At the alarm valve Make note of the alarm panel readings for each supervised device ie. backflow or piv. Control valve. Close the air supply ball valve to the Alarm valve located at the compressor. 4 Open the water flow device/Switch with the key provided by the manufacturer. 5 manually engage and hold down the stick lever in the middle of the device for At least two minutes make note of the time detection is achieved. Revers the process. Clear the panel.
Many dry pipe valves have an alarm test valve. It comes from the bottom side of the clapper and goes into a tee that feeds the high pressure switch (water flow switch). It allows you to force water into the pressure switch with no risk of tripping the system.

Between this video, and the ones done by FireAlarmDude on the servicing of fire extinguishers, it looks like something a person can do at home if they have the right stuff, even if it's not encouraged for insurance purposes. O-rings, valve stems, and pressure gauges are all pretty common online, as is the adapter for charging the system with nitrogen.

You would need to have a valid Pre-engineered Fire Suppression license from the State of Ohio to be able to perform these types of inspections.

How many batteries fail the required 90-minute load test with your 20-hour load tester? (the ACT612 you're using in this video is used on fire alarm batteries, not 4 or 6 volt light batteries).

What if your doing a huge facility like 200+ extinguishers and they are all due for a 12yr hydrostatic test because they bought them all at the same time? You have 200+ loaners to swap?
Hi Brandon - Great question. While this type of situation rarely occurs, it can happen, and most of the facilities that have a large number of extinguishers, do have a reserve stock for situations like this. If a hydrostatic test is due, then our technicians will utilize the customer reserve stock along with our stock while the tests are done and the extinguishers are returned.
Does it use electric?
Hi Dwight - All of the exit & emergency lights that you see in this video (and a majority of the ones you will see at your local grocery store, restaurants, warehouses, etc.) are powered by electricity with a battery backup. There are specialty lights out there that do not need electricity to illuminate in the event of an emergency. These types are more rare and are used in certain applications.
Hallway lights at my school have Mini emergency lights in them, and I’m don’t know anything about them.
It's hard to keep up with all of the different types, styles and configurations through the years. A lot has changed to make them brighter, last longer and less bulky on the wall or ceiling. We do get excited when we come across a really old one because it's becoming more rare to find those types. The truth is that they are all pretty cool, and there for the same reason - to help get you out of a building in case of an emergency.
You guys didn't lube the valve stem or ORing... which causes it to deteriorate.. come on take pride in your work please
