Matthias' Cabin Chronicles

Matthias' Cabin Chronicles

When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see the meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself.
I chose the traditional method - using only hand tools. My father taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
I also started this KZread channel where I share my entire journey, so if you are interested, you can check it out. There is no one behind the camera, so I do the filming and editing myself. I would also very much appreciate if you would support my journey by subscribing or sharing, if you want to.
Here I'm sharing my journey with you. Thank you all for your attention. Enjoy!

My PayPal E-mail for channel support: [email protected]
All the money that will be donated through PayPal will be invested back into the cabin.

Hi Matthias, good to know you are feeling better again. Hey, the big leaves at 10:25 !? Is this the Paulownia already? Please show them to us in the next video. Very cute porch and table, nice. Take care of yourself and take your time! Ah, and one thing: maybe you might consider to cut some of the little bushes near the small cabins' chimney? Seems to be very close. Best wishes!😊

I’m a Nana from Brisbane Australia, may I ask what country you are from and do you speak English?? I love what you are building Matthias and will you live in you cabin full time?? Good luck with your work and I’m keen to watch your next programs.

You don't put any insulation between trunk and trunk, some kind of grass or something?

Hello my dear friends🙂 I decided to build a covered front porch on the small cabin so that I can have a place where I can have a table and where I can eat or sharpen tools, etc. Since the roof is bigger, now I will also collect more rainwater, which I currently use mainly for watering the paulownia trees - the world's fastest growing trees which I planted in episode 12. I bring drinking water in canisters so I don't drink the rainwater. I haven't done much work on the main cabin lately. I was a little sick so I didn't work for a few days, but at least I had a good rest after a few weeks/months of hard work. I still have to finish 4 rows of logs on the main log cabin. That's a total of 16 logs for the walls. Before I put in the last logs I have to cut out the openings for the windows and doors. I'm really looking forward to getting the walls done and starting the roof and I can't wait to share it with you! Thank you all for the positive comments. I appreciate it very much. Matthias, good work. I'd be a little concerned with the tar coating on green (fresh) wood. It will hold the moisture in and cause it to rot faster. Normally, you'd use very dry lumber and only coat the sides that will be exposed to the ground.

Two things concern me about the small cabin. The first is that the door opens outwards and can be locked from the outside. That means something could fall against the door, trapping you inside. The other is that somebody malicious could lock you inside. As far as the water goes, you need to be filtering the water before it gets into the tanks.
