START TO FINISH - Building a Simple Cabin in Off Grid Bush (While I'm Building the Main Log Cabin)

Hello my friends🙂
I am building this small cabin so that I can stay on my off grid property where I'm building the main log cabin from big round logs. I'll only be in this small cabin temporarily until I get the main log cabin done.

More about me:
When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself, in the middle of an off-grid bush.
After I left school, I went to work for a while to earn money for trees and hand tools. I spent all the money I earned and my savings on it. Thank God, I already owned the land I have - I got it from my dear parents as a gift and I also bought another part of the land with my own money.
I chose a log cabin for my home because I like it. I build it with the vision of living a simple and peaceful life in it. Having time is more important to me than having money. Of course, nowadays a person cannot live without money, but I would like to live in such a way that my expenses are not so high and thus reduce the need for money. I want to have time not only for myself, but also for my future wife and children. That's why I will try to build the most self-sufficient life possible, in which my own housing, in my case a log cabin, will be the heart of this system.
I use hand tools because they are my favorite. There is beauty in simplicity.
Working with hand tools has several advantages: You are able to work off-grid, the entire set of tools you need can fit in one bag, there is better safety when you work alone, you don´t make too much noise when you´re working... so I enjoy it more and I believe you will too, while watching :)
Sometimes you will still see me use power tools for some things where I can't avoid it completely, such as drilling through metal roofing or welding, but otherwise I will always try to use primarily hand tools.
My dear father is a carpenter. He taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
Thank you all for your attention. Enjoy!

Hello my friends🙂 I am building this small cabin so that I can stay on my off grid property where I'm building the main log cabin from big round logs. I'll only be in this small cabin temporarily until I get the main log cabin done. My main goal for this cabin is that I want it to be super cheap and super quick to build. I build this cabin as an alternative to a hot tent so I didn't want to spend a lot of money and time on this cabin. I have a big main log cabin for that :D That's why I used fresh boards for the walls, which are much cheaper than dry boards. I also saved on parts such as the sink from a rotten rv camper, or the homemade 12v batery pack, the faucet is also second-hand, it doesn't seal well and water drips into the sink, but only when there is pressure in. As I don't have constant pressure in it, it's not a problem for me. I got the roof tiles and two large tanks for free, and I already own the cast iron stove. So I was able to build this cabin very very cheaply. Total spend is roughly 350 Euros (378 USD). Thank you all for the positive comments. I appreciate it very much. I am 61 years old, and a lady, and I love watching you build this tiny cabin! I am really enjoying watching you build each thing, and watching each detail. YOU are very skilled and I really admire what you are doing. I wish I was not disbled and in a hospital bed. How I dream to be in a tiny house in the woods. I cannot think of how to accommodate a hospital bed! Man it is just so cool! I am thinking of trying to have a tiny house built to put in my Dad's backyard of his house. My Dad is open to it. I would have to have electricity though. I am thinking about it. Love your video. Thanks so much for posting. Just so happy for young people who can do this, live off grid and live in nature. Proud of you! Good luck to you!

I like your analysis and use of wood and materials. You have controlled the overall construction method and labor to the lowest cost. You have the brains and physical strength to complete the construction goals. This is what I admire most about you. . I look forward to you completing more construction of your home environment in the future. There should be a lot of construction equipment to be completed on this land, and the design and construction of garden landscaping is also a science. I suggest you think more about water, electricity and green energy. Combine with ecology to create a beautiful ecological home, so that you can grow vegetables, fruits and live a self-sufficient life.

As I was watching this, I was amazed by the effort you put into it - running water? A nice stove and so forth. But I was scoffing at the fact of the insecure stovepipe - would never withstand harsh weather like that, and the complete lack of insulation. No effort to withstand the winter for yourself or your cabin. You'd freeze to death, stove or not where I come from. Then I saw your post and realized it was temporary as you were building a main home. In that case, well done.

You should run vertical strapping before you lay the horizontal strapping for the roofing. That allows egress of condensation that forms under the tiles as the hot and humid air cools in the evening. As it stands the moisture will eventually rot your horizontal supports. Also if you choke up on your hammer grip a bit, it will take fewer strikes to sink a nail.

Not as easy to transport if you are in the bush, but OSB plywood would be much cheaper than dimensional lumber for the roof deck. Would have gone for the slight extra expense of 4x4s for the floor frame for strength and longevity. You might consider hinging the bed up to be a Murphy Bed, only taking support and mattress thickness out from the wall when unused for more headroom when seated. Also, look into SHOU SUGI BAN, which is how the Japanese made bare wood exteriors on their cabins last for decades by charring it with fire. Lastly, over time push yourself to hold that hammer closer to the far end. Much more leverage there. Always great to see someone take the initiative to do a DIY build. Inexpensive builds like this could help the homeless out a lot.
