Dr. Michael Tang PT, DPT, CSCS
Hello everybody, I am Dr. Michael Tang. I am a physical therapist who enjoys some fitness and wellness, but with the side interest in anime and gaming culture. The goal of the channel is to provide some of my thoughts on various topics and products from a physical therapist perspective.
As you guys will see in my videos, I troll myself quite a bit to make sure I stay humble. That being said...
Welcome to the channel and I hope you enjoy the content I produce

You may not be a professional photographer but your review is far more useful than 99% of the other videos I've watched on the topic.
6:30 - you got the shoes and the captions mixed up there mate
I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes for last 3 years and it has transformed my life. I run with a weighted vest (slowly) and I have several pairs of causal minimalist barefoot shoes. I played basketball for throughout my youth and early twenties, my knees were shot and my ankles were weak. Facing possible multiple surgeries, I tried barefoot shoes and I’ve have NOT had any knee nor ankle problems since. It took 6 months to adjust but in the end I could never go back
2:31 - the most important section, don't miss it
The glue attaching the soles on my Xeros broke loose on two spots on both shoes in about 9 months, and I only wore them indoors on gym flooring. Not impressed with durability. Comfort is amazing though. I put some shoe goo into the rips and I’ll wear them until the soles are done, but for the price they should have lasted longer.
Where are you located?
When I started wearing barefoot shoes (a couple of styles of Purestep) I stopped wearing socks. When I go for walks, my feet often get wet, but I don't find that a problem unless I'm wearing socks.
Whitin is pretty good for the price, you just have to make sure you get the sizing right if you're gonna wear toe spacers.
For an injured tendon what kind of brace would be easiest? Not a rupture, just a strain.
Good video. Thanks. toronto canada.
From ridicule to being curiously asked “what kind of shoes are those” in 2 years. Vivos are too expensive, but I don’t wear anything else anymore except for running and cycling.
Someone said that you should wear them when sleep and then get them off is that beneficial?
The transition to barefoot shoes can be challenging but worth it in the long run. As we age, balance and leg strength becomes more important and barefoot shoes definitely help on both of those.
I can’t… these caused me so much pain. I think my feet are too far gone for toe spacers.
AND 1 socks....respect💯
just got a pair of whitin trail cross trainers. I have a pair of asics that I use for playing pickleball and feel very comfortable in. Played with the whitins and found them very comfortable and stable for my feet. Not sure if I could wear them all the time but switching up regularly seems to be a good option the gum sole also seems to give a good grip.
I tried the Bodhi Feet because they were inexpensive. I had the same issue you brought up and they were uncomfortable so I returned them. I ended up going with Correct Toes even though they are probably the most expensive. They're worth it.
There is a reason the Whitins are far cheaper than the other major brands. Because they are pretty much rubbish. I'd never buy them again. The Xero and the Vivos are simply better !
As a retired physical therapist, I used to make these from foam I got at JoAnn's. The question really is, what benefits are there? I can say I saw a significant improvement in balance in many patients, they got rid of my knee pain because they decreased my genu valgus, and the friend, Timmy Wallace, PT, indicated that she saw decreased spasticity. I also noted that when I took them off to wash, when I got up I was walking on a different part of my little toe. After a few years, I stopped because I started having more cramps, but eventually returned to them. The advantage of making your own is that they can be made to fit, they can be washed easily, and you can quickly forget you are wearing them.
Bro buys wrong size and can’t fit it properly… does a review about feeling uncomfortable and not fitting properly. 😂
Is this an objective testimonial, or even a professional opinion? Looks and feels like an advert to me, along with your other vids...
I was wondering about this because I don’t seem to have the same foot problems as a lot of other people I’ve seen and met, and I’m just now realizing it’s probably because I almost exclusively wore crocs growing up and I’m autistic so any excuse I had to go barefoot I was doing that. Seriously, I have to wonder because most of my friends have joint problems of some kind. I have some, but only in my arms which is interesting Corollary to this: I just tried walking around and noticing how I walk, and I just now realized that the way I walk barefoot would completely fix the running problems I have. I have had to train myself to lean forward when running because the heel strike can be awful for your shins and joints (and in my experience is also slower) but apparently I already naturally do that when barefoot, the heel “support” just screws that up.
I'm 28 yo. I almost never wore slippers or any other shoes at home. In my culture (Poland) we usualy take off our outside shoes, but many people wear slippers. I always found them uncomfortable. I bought my first pair of barefoot shoes 6 months ago and transition to those took me 0 days. I'm not going back, I love my Brubeck merino shoes - so lightweight, so flexible. I can't wear some of my old shoes because I'm tired of stiff soles and narrow toeboxes.
5:44 why wear shoes because those areas are weak? Why not work body to be stronger & better instead of placating the weakness?
I still don't know why.
It's actually spelled segue
thats the whole purpose-reduce heel strikes
Hi I’m server at restaurant, can you help me in suggesting restaurant SLIP resistant wide toe box/barefoot shoes please
I have both Vivo and Xero's and I prefer Xero shoes over Vivo. Xero shoes have more functional design.
They are all crap
Is it recommended for plantar fasciitis?
These is a nice comparison for the person who is thinking twice for the joby price, the mt-33 makes sense
If you have had braces (like a tight shoe) and you remove the braces, a dentist will glue a piece of wire to the back of tour teeth (at least I had) so they stay straight. If they wouldn't do that there is a high change your teeth will go back to 'normal', they might show small gaps again after a while. So that was not a good exemple because removing the brace resemble removing the tight shoes.
I haven't injured myself that I know of. But there are mornings when I wake up and my right ankle really hurts. Which of these ankle braces would you recommend for that?
Awesome
Thank you. My husband bought tons of knee sleeves, medicated… even the hard brace and none of them works in an ideal way. He had surgery in the knee. He never knew how long can he had those props on, if he can use them when sleeping, if it’s better or not (doctor said he has to operate both knees and replace them with prothesis). He is 58, is it better now or wait to be older? Hello from 🇯🇵
The only thing is these shoes should all be pretty cheap because they are thin.
thanks for this review and knowledge doc!
Handsome
its nice, it lasted 3 years of outdoor weather before the wind blew it over and destroyed it.
Check out the Altra Lone Peaks! I’m not a hiker but I found them to be a wide toe box and lower to the ground but still with some support! Would be interested in your input :)
Western people and market shamed people who already walked barefoot and sold them all kind of expensive shoes in the name of research and technology. And now they're telling everyone, you should walk barefoot. Lol what a joke! 🤣
I think KZreadrs are out of content so they keep coming up with stupid ideas and make video to get viral.
building it for me definitely wasnt easy
My favorite whitins are the barefoot hey dude look alikes. They are very barefoot, but i wear toepost sandals whenever i can, so that is very welcoming.
This guy has the eyebrows of an emoji.
I need them very badly. Where and how can I get them?
Team Vivo.
What about using arch support insoles in Xero barefoot shoes?
Phenomenal!!!! I had to go through 4 yt videos to get an answer on the best Tri-Pod for my needs. Very Well Done!!!!!
