The reason for cramping when wearing these is because the soft tissues of the feet are stretching back to a better position after years of being constricted in shoes so in a way, this is a good thing. It's about the whole foot, not just the toes. Correct Toes are a good brand. I'm a retired Podiatrist

People seldom are able to reason or believe that the mechanics of the toes can cause dysfunction beyond the tarsals, past the heel, and up the body.

sorry that you were a podiatrist! its a huge shame that such a profession exists yet no one thinks when buying a shoe on how that shoe will effect them in the future ,its also a shame that all the evidence regarding barefoot shoes is anecdotal,i feel like conventional medicine is overall extremely faulty ,i am 3 months into my walking/running journey i bought like 15 pairs of shoes to experiment with, i have returned 2 expensive vivobarfoots witch in my opinion is still too much a distance from barefoot feel ,my best pair so far is an 8 dollar pair in witch i have done a few 20 mile walk /runs i am a full believer in forefoot running in barefoot shoes and use of toe spreaders, at 37 years so far after loads of foot blisters till its now finally callused/toughened enough and loads of muscle soreness witch none were of concern to me as they toughen up and get stronger, my only concern was joint discomfort because that could lead to long term issues ,so far my heels knees and ankels, back were not impacted at all,my biggest concern was left hip discomfort i had from time to time witch triggered me to study more on running technique and posture and i think i adjusted correctly as my last 20 mile run i only has muscle soreness ,my hips were good

@@silence-humility-calmness I agree that conventional medicine is faulty. I'm not conventional as a podiatrist at all. That's why I endorse correct toes and I sell Starfish jandals, that give the feet a supportive base, (most of us need this due to having worn shoes all our lives), while maximizing freedom of movement around the ankle and toes. I'm glad I'm a podiatrist - it has provided me with the knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics on which to expand my thinking
You just saved me from countless extra hours of research on toe spacers, thank you!

@@ForTeamTang what are the shoes u got on ? where do i get them ?
I've been wearing these spacers since 2017. Without them, I wouldn't be able to walk or drive my car. I have damaged nerves between my toes on both feet, which swell and get excruciatingly painful if I walk without them, or drive because of the vibration from the gas peddle. My foot doctor only gave me 2 options, and they were to either get a series of shots in my feet, which are very painful, or have the nerves removed - I said no to both. I did have to work my feet up to using the spacers. Every time I tried to put them on, my feet would cramp up. So I started out using Toe Socks for a while, then I went to Yoga Socks that just has the loops. I also wore them to bed. After about a month, I was able to use the spacers and keep them on all day if I had to. They were a Godsend to me. I'm glad to see them here for a lot less money.

I have chemo induced peripheral neuropathy and toe spacers take the pain away when I’m in bed, I can now sleep.
I have worn Vibram Five Finger shoes since 2005 after having back surgery and nerve damage. They helped get the feeling back in my toes on the right foot and help with walking stability. I love my toe shoes.
I got the exact first one he showed as example. It was cheapest and comfort is bearable. Thanks Doc
I haven't had cramps wearing them for 45 minutes with the toe spacers/spreaders you recommend. I do feel the muscles in my feet and legs adjusting. The muscles were sore from walking before, but now it feels like the inflammation is going down since I put them on. I have also been stretching with them, which has helped.
Thanks so much for making this comparison video. I didn't know there were pre-shaped spacers that were reasonably priced - I was almost ready to try the $65 ones until I watched your video!

Thanks for this video and some others I've watched, including shoe reviews. I just received mine in the mail today and already started using them.
I bought some YogaMedic toe spreaders. They are the sort that you don't like, with bands around the big toe, but I have had no problem with them rolling up and find them pretty comfortable and effective.
Thank you for the information. Very helpful!
I find myself silently crying at the end of your film Not with sadness, But of pure awe.
YES! I've been using a sock to spread my toes while I sleep for years... makes my feet really good! I just weave the length of the sock through my toes. These spacers would do a much better job, thanks!
Thank you Dr Tang is great video
Thank you so much for the video! It really helps to me! 🤗
I’m dying to give toe spacers a try. It’ll take some getting used to. Dr. Tang has very nice looking feet/toes/soles. The spacers worked for him 😆

Wow, awesome video...Thanks for making it 🔥
I have used CorrecToes spacers for about a year now. They’re great.
Thanks. I have Yoga Toes & think they’re really effective, but they’re bulky & hard to put on. I have an older version that isn’t open on top. You have to get them wet to put them on, & it’s hard to walk in them. But they do work. I conditioned my feet to using them & planned to sleep in them, but I was worried that if I got up at night that I’d fall. I also have Correct Toes, which are great to wear during the day!
I have the correct toes brand and they come in different sizes based on your foot measurements. I can wear them a couple hours or so but I’ve only had them a few weeks.
Good video great info. I just got mine today I tried them on for an hour and my feet felt great. I think sleeping with them all night will do great since the feet aren’t moving allowing toes to realign You’re very good looking and great bod! Greetings from LA👌🏻
Thank you this was very helpful !
I ordered them. Had surgery on my right foot/ toes and if I can avoid this on my left foot I will. I’ll try them for five minutes and take it from there!
Thank you very much, this helped me a lot.
Great content thank you.
Great video. Thanks so much for the coverage and list of options! 👏🏾
I wear them for hours!! They feel so comfy!!~
I bought a set of gel spacers for pedicures that came with a larger spacer that fully encircled the toes. Fabulous for foot cramps (I wear heels for my monthly chapter meetings and often in the summer, and sometimes it takes my feet a few times to adjust. Or just to rest at night 🙂
Thank you Dr Michael Tang PT, DPT, CSCS

That was very informative and helpful!! I been struggling with foot pain from flat feet for years now. Recently i bought a pair of Yeezy 350 (they have a wide toe box and are knit so your toes have room for movement) and i been walking around a lot. Usually after half a mile my feet are starting to hurt but with those i walled about 4 miles and no pain!! I started learning about having your toes spread out gives you arches and alleviates foot pain. I never considered toe spaces until watching this video. If i use both then i think my problem will be 100% resolved 🤔

Good luck!
Because of toe spacers my squat set in the gym are immaculate!
The blue gel ones, I cut the ends off so that those bands around the big toe and pinky are gone. Additionally removed the smallest spacer (pinky toe side) as this way was the best fit for my feet. Doing this has allowed the toes to become accustomed to toe spacers. I have but can’t wear the brand your recommending. Ater using these modified gel ones, the white ones are becoming comfortable.

Good morning Dr Tang….I’m a subscriber, and this is another great video!. I’m in mid-60s, and spent nearly 45years wearing uniforms (Navy and law enforcement)…obviously often requiring wearing a uniform-type dress shoe, which over time narrowed my feet. I am successfully correcting that, as I am active (hike, backpack, bike, etc) and in retirement, have adopted a “zero shoe” lifestyle. Re: toe spacers, I have tried two varieties (off of Amazon), and they work. They are the molded rubber-like silicon types, that band around all five toes. Once stretched on, they are comfortable enough….but one morning, after just 20 -30 minutes, my wife alarmingly remarked that my toes were looking purple (she was right, as circulation was impeded), and removal immediately returned them to “normal”. Last night, while reading, I again had them on for a long period, even wearing them to take my dog outside. At some point (maybe 45 minutes), I felt a numbing and stinging feeling in my two smallest toes…removed the spacers, and it appeared to have temporarily deformed the toes (yes, like what happens when wearing a ring that’s too small). The toes returned to normal within an hour or so. I don’t want to stop this process, but now think mine are too small (I don’t remember being asked my “toe size” when I ordered them!!!). The version that works for you….does it constrict your three inner toes in any way, as in circulation….? I’m going to give them, or some other alternative, a try. Again, sir, thank you!

Thanks for the video. I wear the 5 toe spreader when I have metatarsal pain in my feet. Fortunately that's too often but after about half a day wearing them my feet feel much better. I've tried wearing them in shoes and sleeping with them on but they were way too uncomfortable in both instances. I may try the ones worn in the video to see if I can wear them in my shoes.

Super grateful 🥲 gonna order some today!!
I tried the Bodhi Feet because they were inexpensive. I had the same issue you brought up and they were uncomfortable so I returned them. I ended up going with Correct Toes even though they are probably the most expensive. They're worth it.
I've recently come up with a tailors bunion, it's killing me! and I've noticed that all my shoes, the toe boxes seem smaller than they used to be. Sooooo looking for spacers as well as barefoot shoes. Thanks for the great info on the spacers! I just put a set in my amazon cart.

My journey started with a bunion. I do toe yoga, I wear toe spacers & I just got my first pair of minimalist/barefoot boots (I live in a cold area). Usually I dread walking because normal shoes cause me a lot of back pain, but I just took a walk (seriously, just got the boots, put them on and took a walk) & I actually didn’t want to stop! I have never felt more comfortable walking. I got xero shoes in men’s because I already have a wide foot (one of the reasons my feet were getting so bad is I was still trying to wear women’s shoes) so I first started with a men’s regular shoe, then a men’s wide shoe, so I chose a men’s barefoot. I will NEVER go back. I’m going to donate all my regular shoes now. Once you adjust it is simply amazing.

I got mine from the Life brand. $20. I was wearing them all day in my shoes during work but they recently ripped and I had to replace them and I can't wear them for very long since the holes are still tight and cut off my circulation. If you're in the same boat, keep going. They will stretch out eventually. I've been wearing my toe spreaders for about half a year almost every day but I still haven't seen any resultw but it feels so much better to wear them so I keep doing it
I completed the new Silva program and now have full control

I keep reading that it's best to use them when standing or walking, when you're using the foot by applying pressure. Apparently using them when watching TV or sleeping is useless. 'Correct toes' spacers have the cut out inside so you can adjust them once you want your toes to spread further. This feature for me is a must. Almost all others do not have this feature so are only good for beginners in my opinion.
Is it a good idea to wear the spacers and the bunion correctors at the same time?
how about foam ones? i would assume that they are a lot more comfortable with lesser stress points.
I use these when I swim because they keep my toes from curling up when my leg muscles spasm in the water. I use the rubbery type because they stay secure when wet!

can you tell me where you got the spacers/. thanksyou.
As a retired physical therapist, I used to make these from foam I got at JoAnn's. The question really is, what benefits are there? I can say I saw a significant improvement in balance in many patients, they got rid of my knee pain because they decreased my genu valgus, and the friend, Timmy Wallace, PT, indicated that she saw decreased spasticity. I also noted that when I took them off to wash, when I got up I was walking on a different part of my little toe. After a few years, I stopped because I started having more cramps, but eventually returned to them. The advantage of making your own is that they can be made to fit, they can be washed easily, and you can quickly forget you are wearing them.
Are there any good alternatives to Correct Toes? I'd like to use them for training, hiking, etc
I agree correct toes are great. I don't think other toe spacers work as well as C.T does.
I work on a hard Concrete surface and I am on my feet for 8 to 10 hours a day wearing steel toe regulated boots. With that said I don't think it would be practical to wear the toe spacers during the day while working however would it be good enough to wear them at night when I'm asleep 8 hours or more? That is about the best I can do except for wearing them all day on the weekend? Please let me know your thoughts
scoliosis? also greats and informative video, really got some infos out of that. thanks.
Never Heard Of Barefoot Shoes Before But Anyways Thank You💯
I started running wearing sandals in 2016 and since October 2020 I'm almost exclusively running barefoot. When shoes are socially needed I use minimalist shoes (wide toebox, zero drop and flexible). With +10,000 Km in sandals and +8,000Km barefoot I just can't see a reason for using toe spacers. Just trying to be barefoot as much as possible and avoiding narrow toeboxes I believe your toes will naturally find the best way to be.
I have never tried toe spacers. I wonder if it will make it hard for the sweat between toes to evaporate.
I see the Morton toes. I hope you read about the biomechanical implications of having the big toes shorter than the second toes. Short first ray, etc.
