This channel is all about the Software Defined Radio Receiver from SDRplay - the 'RSP'. It includes SDR demos, instructions and tips as well as sections with videos of helpful hints and techniques for SDR users. Because SDRplay provides SDRuno and SDRconnect software, there are a growing number of videos featuring SDRuno. SDR-Console and HDSDR are also well covered. SDRplay encourages suggestions for additional videos we can add to our playlists - especially for non-English-speaking viewers.

I am trying to connect SDR UNO to HRD, specifically to use HRD Satellite Tracker to control the frequency. I tried to set up HRD to connect to a virtual pair port 12 and the SDR UNO to virtual port 11. No luck even though they are both set to 57600 baud. Is there another way I should be ding this?
I am having a hard time picking up anything in VHF/UHF. Not even FM Radio. Changed modes, narrow and wide. I have connected to HF and VHF/UHF antenna through duplexer. I have used with other radios and can confirm antenna works. I am running through panadaper on Icom 7300. Perhaps it can't pass any signals beyond the Icom 7300 range? It is working as separate HF receiver. So I am thinking I would need to use another duplexor and run VHF/UHF signals to separate antenna input? Will that offer enough protection from stray signals you think if I transmit on Icom 7300?
I struggle to understand how the data transfer over the virtual cable works. Is the sound card hard ware of the PC involved or not? I got it working, but while the cw signals in sdrplay are clean, in cwskimmer it looks all foggy and noisy.
Great work guys - really! I find myself looking for a PL filter. Most ham radio repeaters transmit a tone below 160Hz which is annoying if not filtered out. High pass filter possible?

I would love to see using SDRconnect with Tailscale, which would bypass the need to open ports on your router, provide better security when accessing via the internet by creating a VLAN. It also overcomes the pesky GCNATting many ISP's are now using worldwide. I currently use Tailscale and Icoms RS-BA1 to provide secure anywhere in the world access to my radio station. Any chance you could cover this, it may be very useful to the SDRPlay community as it bypasses any ISP IP requirements and doesn't require open ports on your router which can lead to attacks. Using Tailscale is an ideal way to connect to very remote site (server) using the cellular network and connecting the client (control) PC from a cellular network. Extactly what I've done with my current Icom remote station mentioned above. VK5TC
I bought the SDRPlay 2 from HRO, about 5, 6 years ago. When hooking it up, and trying it for the first time, I hooked it up to my 4 band Vert . I was receiving a lot of noise coming in from High Voltage lines about 800 ft away. So, I disconnected the antenna and tried a small indoor antenna and the same thing. I then wrapped the complete system with copper tape and all noise was gone, even on the 4 band vert. Now my questions, a few days after wrapping it in copper tape I was called upon to run emerg comms for a Gov agency, and was doing so up until a few months ago. When I went to install unit and software, it asked for SN. Hmm, the copper tape has been on for 5, 6 years, I can't find receipt, can I read it via computer electronically? Or will it work anyway without it? Plus will any software on the website work with the 2?
@@buzzsah if you start up SDRuno or SDRconnect it will display the serial number. You do not need the serial number to download the software. But if you do not register the unit you will not receive tech support.
good video and excellent explanation. I have a Stl-sdr V4 and it does not work, it detects the drive but does not recognize the V4 version
I have been an avid SWL listener since my teenage years in the late 1970s. Given my experience in the hobby, I have noticed one thing with SWL radios in the sub $1,000 price range. And that is that cheaper radios often have RF images leaking over from other frequencies due to harmonic interference. Thankfully, I have not noticed that with my RSP1A or my RSP1B. The SDR Play spectrum display is second to none, but given the low price of these radios, I am very impressed with the RF performance also. I also own an ICOM IC7030, Yaesu FT-991A, Drake R-8, and a AOR-7030. My SDR Play radios function very well RF wise and give me a spectrum display neither my Yaesu or ICOM can match.

I'm testing SDRConnect and can't find a way to filter out CTCSS tones. The audio filter seems to pass frequencies <300Hz through.
Noted - we'll have to get back to you on that.
I still don't own one, cause i cant afford it (not your problem, i do know your products are bang-for-buck), but it's nice to watch these videos updating, teaching and giving feeback to users and fans of your products/company. keep them coming! 73s for sunny portugal!
Nice update John and happy summer to you and yours as well. Have really been enjoying SDRConnect (on Mac) with my DXR2. A great combination.
The sun's been causing issues as of late on the HF bands in the US , but there's been a number of good days too. 73's
Do you have a development roadmap for SDRconnect? I would like to know when the official version will be released or when it will have the same features as SDRuno.
We don't have a formal roadmap. The incremental additions are tough to predict and things dont always come out in the predicted order. Our focus is on Timed recordings, Rig Control and Module Support. Work is also underway on modules like RDS.

John, you fellows across the pond are killing it for the shortwave hobby, now that I own a RSP1A and a RSP1B. Your SDR-Uno software is simply the best software for weak signal HF diggers like myself. I thought you Brits quit making great radios since the days of the AOR-7030 I bought 26 years ago. Boy was I wrong!

Is it possible to run at least two instances of SRDUNO on one high powered laptop? I own a new HP 12 core I7 laptop. That would be great because I run my setup on a two screen mode. If I could run SDRUNO and your newer Connect software on the same laptop at the same time, that would be great now that I have a serious antenna farm in my backyard.

Hi, Have you ever thought about including built in wifi + battery/DC power into the SDRplay to enable portable/mobile use with iPadOS along with a version of SDR connect? Can the current SDRplay be used with android tablets?
I wonder what's behind the apparent fallout between the SDRPlay people and the AirSpy folks. They used to support each others receivers in their respective software but apparently something happend along the way.
I understand that there are two receivers in SDRplay. can i use both at the same time with another instance of CW skimmer to skim two bands at the same time?
@@Garimeli if the two bands are within the 10MHz you can set up another VRX for the other band. There is only one receiver needed. If the bands are outside the 10MHz limit then you would need a dual tuner RSPduo.

SDRconnect --server gives me. -bash: SDRconnect: command not found How come??????
You must either be in the directory where SDRconnect resides, or set up the PATH as shown in the video.

@@floris-janvanfleppensteyn4100 try ./SDRconnect --server or navigate to the SDRconnect directory and try there. It works fine on Catalina, one of the servers we're using for Friedrichshafen 2024 this weekend is a Mac mini running Catalina. If you have difficulties open a support ticket

As the proud owner of a SDRplay RSPduo using SDRplay uno whilst I accept that I'm 7 years late to the party, that's great info Thanks. The only problem we have here in Australia is a lot of smaller FM stations that operate on paper thin budgets don't run RDS so it's back to the old way of doing FM DX'ING. Rgs Wayne VK3ECS
Looking good. I stopped using my DX because I found UNO clunky to use compared to SDRSharp. SDRConnect is looking like a move in a more modern UI Direction that was much needed to support the nice DX hardware. Will be watching the continued development!

So tired of people complaining about prices. $300 for something you use hands on for hours isn't too much, especially if you like the tactile feel of tuning a radio. I see people spends hundreds on cables, connectors, this and that, then complain about a box that works in multiple ways. No, no one has to make one of these things for $50. If so, it would probably be too light, not enough technical support or built-in software, etc. Stop complaining people. If it costs too much get out of the hobby. If you do it right, Amateur Radio and scanning can be an insanely affordable hobby. The TM-2 is so good that six years later it hasn't changed much. That means the design was decent enough to start with.

This is great - was waiting for a MacOS S/W solution. In the latest SDRConnect MacOS version - is there a way to PAN the waterfall/spectrum display, using the mouse device to grab and pan, ie. as would be done when tuning up/down the band - and as most SDR S/W implements? Using the Zoom buttons are cumbersome, and a keyboard-shortcut/pointer control would be very usable and speed up the process of tuning to a signal.
They use AirSpy, HackRF and Kraken.
I need a way to lock the screen elements so my clumsy hands do not inadvertently drag windows all over the place. Because half of the time I am tuning and finding things to listen to, the other half of the time I am putting things back to where I want them. Pls.

@@SDRplayRSP I definitely have, but it doesn't stop me from dragging things off inadvertently. I'll adapt, or maybe not ;) , I just wanted to request it as a desired feature. Thank you for the amazing device, robust software, and for the continued development and quick response to interactions. That means a lot.
If you drag things out of place just reselect the workspace.

why would an overview of SDRplay's RSP products cover RTL dongles?
I followed any instruction step regarding the server setup in SDRconnect. All done and successfully tested, but as locally in LAN as from internet, it doesn't work (server not reachable), I do not know why.

Omnirig not set correctly, or the Kenwood software is running and has taken the serial port

I really do hope the AFC (Automatic Frequency Control) function from SDRuno will be integrated into SDR connect too. I love that function.
