Bushyl - Steph Schertz

Bushyl - Steph Schertz

I started making handmade soap in the summer of 2021 and launched my business shortly thereafter. This channel is where I document all the behind the scenes that goes into growing this business, from expanding product lines (soy candles, lip balms, shower steamers, bath salts, etc.) to the mental challenges of running a business on my own with ADHD and anxiety, to celebrating the wins as I grow bigger than I could have expected. I appreciate this community so much and am extremely grateful for every single viewer! Feel free to check out my products at Bushyl.com!

    What function does the witch hazel have?

  • @hellobushyl
    @hellobushyl4 күн бұрын

    The witch hazel partially activates the solution and adds just enough moisture to help hold the tablets together when you press them. Otherwise they’d be too dry and fall apart 😊

    Great video. I don't know why people go out of their way to go to a craft fair and bash the goods for sale. I don't go to a car race and yell, "This is stupid."

    I started with candles but had a hard time keeping up the demand due to not having enough funds for product and i dont want to get loans and i still have a fulltime job. I think starting soaps would be a great restart to building my business back up.

  • @hellobushyl
    @hellobushyl25 күн бұрын

    Definitely don’t use oil because it can make the shower floor slippery and dangerous! You could try alcohol, or even just a splash of water might be the best thing.

    Hi. I’m sooooo new to all of this. Mainly just getting more info. Has the squeeze wax for wax warmers trend already passed? Or fizzled out before it was ever a trend? My adhd brain is horrible about forgetting to blow out candles. But am not finding the strong scents in wax melts. So I was looking at the squeezee idea. What are your thoughts?

    Hello, I hope you see this and give me some advice please. I followed your recipe, I replaced the corn starch with arrowroot as I had that at home and I only added few grams of clay to give some colour. They expand in the mould and I have the sense that they fiz. They feel cold when I touch them. Do you think I put a lot of witch hazel?

  • @hellobushyl
    @hellobushylАй бұрын

    Yes, I think that probably means there’s too much witch hazel!

My soap, smell good and has a good quality, but I really don't why they don't return to buy. They said they love my soap, smell good they like it, but I think they change their mind not to uy after they get and tried the sample bar

    Love this recipe! Will mixing longer help the smoothness if I’m just pressing into a mold? Got a few bumps! If the scent didn’t last long would you recommend more oil or more mixing?

  • @hellobushyl
    @hellobushylАй бұрын

    Yes, I’ve found that mixing helps the bumps! And I’m guessing if the scents not lasting long after you mix longer, it’s probably that you need more oil 😊

    I am in love with the packaging of your products! ❤❤❤ did you create your own or custom-made by a professional? About double batches, you are correct. Making a single batch takes the same amount of time as a bigger/double batch. One thing I hate is when the ingredients go to waste or don't turn out how you expected

    Can you use: Baking soda, Epson salts, cornstarch and essential oil, and witch hazel? Basically replacing the citric acid with epson salts?

  • @hellobushyl
    @hellobushyl25 күн бұрын

    The citric acid/baking soda combo is the part that makes it fizz, otherwise it will just dissolve. You can try putting epsom salt in there and test to see how the experience is, but I think it would be risky calling it a shower steamer because people are probably going to expect the fizz. You’d maybe have to come up with a different product name and do some educating on how it’s different.

  • @hellobushyl

    You can definitely use fragrance oil! How much to use sort of depends on the recipe and potency you’re going for and also the recommended usage so check those numbers for whichever fragrance oil essential oils you use.

    Very helpful video. However, fragrance oil should be poured at 185 degrees in soy wax. If they’re not melting their own wax, it’s going to be much cooler than 185 degrees by the time everyone gets their melted wax to begin mixing their fragrance oils. Fragrance may not bind in wax properly. This is the part I need to think through.
