I started making handmade soap in the summer of 2021 and launched my business shortly thereafter. This channel is where I document all the behind the scenes that goes into growing this business, from expanding product lines (soy candles, lip balms, shower steamers, bath salts, etc.) to the mental challenges of running a business on my own with ADHD and anxiety, to celebrating the wins as I grow bigger than I could have expected. I appreciate this community so much and am extremely grateful for every single viewer! Feel free to check out my products at Bushyl.com!

Your video motivates me
I’m so happy I can me across your video ..I surely want to learn candle and soap making since we are without job and income ..I would like to learn so if you have classes online kindly let me know ..I want to give it a try
What function does the witch hazel have?
The witch hazel partially activates the solution and adds just enough moisture to help hold the tablets together when you press them. Otherwise they’d be too dry and fall apart 😊
@@hellobushyl how many tsps or tblsps would you say a splash approximates?
Great video. I don't know why people go out of their way to go to a craft fair and bash the goods for sale. I don't go to a car race and yell, "This is stupid."
I started with candles but had a hard time keeping up the demand due to not having enough funds for product and i dont want to get loans and i still have a fulltime job. I think starting soaps would be a great restart to building my business back up.
I like that you didn't regurgitate what every other candel making video says. Its new and infornative video.
Thank you! That means a lot! I try to offer new perspectives or insights when I can :)
When I had seasonal soaps left over I would give them as gifts. These are great ideas. Thank you
witch hazel not available in my country can i use alcohol or coconut oil?
Definitely don’t use oil because it can make the shower floor slippery and dangerous! You could try alcohol, or even just a splash of water might be the best thing.

Hi. I’m sooooo new to all of this. Mainly just getting more info. Has the squeeze wax for wax warmers trend already passed? Or fizzled out before it was ever a trend? My adhd brain is horrible about forgetting to blow out candles. But am not finding the strong scents in wax melts. So I was looking at the squeezee idea. What are your thoughts?
Id buy them all just because I love all things fragrance. Did you happen to vlog this years experience at renegade?
how can some one get started on this ?
Thank you for this video and your channel! I just ran across this at the perfect time. I'm almost 60 years old and have been making soap for at least 25. Newly discovered I have adhd and am looking for ways to convince myself it's not just me. So again thank you!
Thank God for Sicilian moss! 😂
Hello, I hope you see this and give me some advice please. I followed your recipe, I replaced the corn starch with arrowroot as I had that at home and I only added few grams of clay to give some colour. They expand in the mould and I have the sense that they fiz. They feel cold when I touch them. Do you think I put a lot of witch hazel?
Yes, I think that probably means there’s too much witch hazel!
Enough of chat! I gave up way before finding anything out!
I appreciate your authenticity and down to earth approach to being a business owner. It helps me soooo much. I’m at the same point right now in my business. It’s helped us out tremendously 🌸
So what would you say would be the minimum amount of product (soaps) for wholesale? I was thinking 100 but I could be ambitious lol
I'm looking for a press machine for shower steamers but can't make up my mind which one I want. Could you tell me what you like about yours?
Hi, do you have a tip, I have been giving a free bar sample, but I don't know after they get, They never return to buy my products. My soap, smell good and has a good quality, but I really don't why they don't return to buy. They said they love my soap, smell good they like it, but I think they change their mind not to uy after they get and tried the sample bar
That's why somethimes I am giving up not give a free sample.
Love this recipe! Will mixing longer help the smoothness if I’m just pressing into a mold? Got a few bumps! If the scent didn’t last long would you recommend more oil or more mixing?
Yes, I’ve found that mixing helps the bumps! And I’m guessing if the scents not lasting long after you mix longer, it’s probably that you need more oil 😊
Greetings! New subscriber here! Can you tell me where you got the mold for the steamers? Thanks so much!
Really enjoyed ur video!!! Very informative!
Thank you!!! Very helpful! You sound so knowledgeable for being in business a year! I wish you the best! I’m thinking of this route as I can’t afford my own website and getting lost in a sea of Etsy sellers. Seems tough to sell direct to customers. Wholesale sounds worth it!
I am in love with the packaging of your products! ❤❤❤ did you create your own or custom-made by a professional? About double batches, you are correct. Making a single batch takes the same amount of time as a bigger/double batch. One thing I hate is when the ingredients go to waste or don't turn out how you expected
How do you control the temperature of the wax?
Oh wow! I am also from Wisconsin. It's my first time watching your video and I am about to start a soapmaking business 😊
Can you use: Baking soda, Epson salts, cornstarch and essential oil, and witch hazel? Basically replacing the citric acid with epson salts?
The citric acid/baking soda combo is the part that makes it fizz, otherwise it will just dissolve. You can try putting epsom salt in there and test to see how the experience is, but I think it would be risky calling it a shower steamer because people are probably going to expect the fizz. You’d maybe have to come up with a different product name and do some educating on how it’s different.
Im in Australia and really enjoying playing around getting ready to semi retire from health care. I love you video's and work and Im feeling the exactly the same. This is where Im at to. Thank you. I think we could be a little club of like minded inspired business dreamers putting our dreams into reality. Love it. Woops using my holiday insta account comment.
By lived example, I know exactly what you said. Check out Dr. Daniel Amen. Plus Nervous system regulation. Especially the work Irene Lyon is doing. Highly recommended.
Great video.. can you use fragrance oil to or only essential.oils and how much fragranceoil?
You can definitely use fragrance oil! How much to use sort of depends on the recipe and potency you’re going for and also the recommended usage so check those numbers for whichever fragrance oil essential oils you use.
Where did you find the containers? Thanks for sharing!😊
Paper Tube Co!
Loved the recipe. Do they need some time curing or are they ready to use? Thanks 😊
Great question! I let them dry out overnight before packaging them.
Omg Steph, you have just summed up my life, I had never thought of ADHD, everything I do has to be perfect, cant stay in a job or relationship for 5 minutes
Love it, such a cool idea
It’s been really good watching your confidence and the way you speak to your you tube audience grow and change since you started first video, I have been binge watching you so seen the confidence grow
I like your rambling, it makes sense when you talk about what are real issues and thoughts, love watching you, you inspire me with starting my candle business in New Zealand
Love your videos! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!!❤
I love tarot cards, I try and do a reading every couple of weeks
Your new space looks awesome, so nice you will be able to grow into it
My word for 2020 was 'HOME' never doing that again!!
New follower here! Glad I found you. I hope to get more into wholesale ❤
Very helpful video. However, fragrance oil should be poured at 185 degrees in soy wax. If they’re not melting their own wax, it’s going to be much cooler than 185 degrees by the time everyone gets their melted wax to begin mixing their fragrance oils. Fragrance may not bind in wax properly. This is the part I need to think through.
Just found your channel. Am a UK chandler and just found the courage to launch shortly, so it’s a real joy to watch your journey since launch. Well done! Inspiring viewing. 🍐😁
I hope it does not take 5 years to make profit. I am 61 and making melts, cause I cannot work anymore
Thank you for your informative video. Is it possible for you to make a video on how to design a wholesale catalogue please. Thank you and good luck with your business!

That’s awesome! You should!
Love this and the honesty of your journey and hard work to starting a successful soap business
