    Ive been riding a 125cc for just over 2 years now and am considering doing a full bike test as the price of CBT keeps rising....im 44, so id do the full bike test i think, might not get a different bike though as the 125cc is cheap and cheerful its just a toy i play with here and there, i have a nice car that i drive daily, the bike is purely for a bit of fun. These look pretty much like the CBT...the 650cc are obviously heavier, but by how much? My 125 is about 150kg, do you have an idea of how heavy the bike you do this on is? I can move mine pretty easily, just worried that the extra weight would mess me up

  • @Lets-rideUk
    @Lets-rideUk8 күн бұрын

    The big bikes we use are around 200kgs and virtually all pupils find them easier to ride than the 125's as it happens! Nothing to worry about. 👍

    Yes, if you like to push yourself round the corners and bends, go to the track if you can. It's far safer. Thats what I did and really enjoyed it. I'm lucky, there is a track only two miles from me and they run fortnightly sessions throughout the summer. Highly recommended if you get the chance

    Richard's videos are by far the best on You Tube for rider instruction, there is no doubt about that. Question for you though Richard. If you take your test on say a Honda 750cc Hornet, that is restricted to A2, do you only get an A2 license? If you do that seems a bit odd to me, because if you take it on a 500cc Hornet or 750cc Hornet, on the test you will not be asked to ride at anywhere near the potential of either motorcycle.

  • @Lets-rideUk
    @Lets-rideUk21 күн бұрын

    @@ronlysons6750 Thank you for the very kind words. Yes, if the 750cc Hornet is restricted for A2 you'll get an A2 licence. And yes, totally agree! In fact our school CB300R is just as quick as the bigger bikes in real-word riding and has zero problem keeping up on the faster roads. The whole A2 / A restriction limits do seem rather arbitrary but hey-ho, it is what it is. 🤷‍♂

    Hi Richard, very good instructive videos thank you for your efforts. Do you have any tips for me almost every time I stop my bike tends to lean to the right and force me to put my right foot down. I am good with my YBR125 but getting ready for MOD1 test and the 750cc is a bit tricky. Thank you.

  • @Lets-rideUk
    @Lets-rideUkАй бұрын

    Our technique for this is to stick your left leg out (but not putting your foot down) just before you stop - maybe a bike length before. Foot down as you stop. This shifts the centre of gravity to the left enough to cause the bike to topple left rather than right. Not 100% effective but pretty close! Best of luck.

    Not sure if you will reply to this. But what about linked rear brake. Around 60-40 to the front and no abs. How should thst be tackled. I have had to do real e stops due to idiots but like you mentioned the rears raises up alot. (This is a 125)

  • @Lets-rideUk
    @Lets-rideUkАй бұрын

    Hi Barrie. Not much different really - front brake as the primary stopping brake, adding a little bit of rear. Remember, you don't have to stand the bike on its nose to pass this exercise - it's a quick stop under control. It's a squeeze of the brake lever, not a grab. 👍

    Hi Richard I am about to start my direct acess course, I've watched all your tutorials and learnt so much from them to become a safer rider,infant I would go onto say you've probably saved a few lives with your teaching so thankyou for that,just one question Richard wich I am a little confused about, after watching this upload and that is turning left from a major road to a minor road,on this you mentioned to take the command position 2, is that right or should it be 1st position, just after watching a few other people's uploads they direct you to take the 1st position, I understand if it was a junction to turn left you would take 1st but confused wich is right for turning into side roads,thxs again for all you guidance Richard,very much appreciated.kind regards Chris.

  • @Lets-rideUk
    @Lets-rideUk2 ай бұрын

    You're very welcome Chris. Position 1 on the approach to a left turn major / minor is very old school and nothing wrong with it per se. The more modern approach is to stay in position 2. Either way is fine for test though. 👍

  • @MrClarkycn
    @MrClarkycn2 ай бұрын

    Thxs Richard, I think I will stick to position 2,as you demonstrate, I was riding home from work today and took position 1 as I thought was right ,but this encouraged a white van man ti overtake me as I was in position, it was a close call,at least position 2 commands the turn,thankyou.

    can you exit into the left hand lane if your in the far right lane at the roundabout at 6:20 ?

  • @Lets-rideUk
    @Lets-rideUk2 ай бұрын

    Possibly but you'd have to do some good checks before doing so as lanes 2 & 3 go right on this roundabout. Easier to exit into the right lane and move across when safe to. So easy for another vehicle to get in your blindspot here, or even undertake you. Or you could use late 2 to go right....

  • @Lets-rideUk
    @Lets-rideUk2 ай бұрын

    Interesting - never had anyone fail for having ABS assisting, but only on the emergency stop exercise. On the hazard avoidance exercise there shouldn't be any harsh braking necessitating the ABS kicking in. Very difficult to comment without being there and seeing it. 🫤
