I just got around to watching your video when it appeared in my timeline. As things stand, friends and I use quince (fruit) leaves the same way. They’re more accessible, 11% tannins, nearly as large, and similar anti-microbial benefits. We harvest them at the end of summer when they dry and fall of the trees flat.

A few years ago I had a Smokey oak millipede named Louie, she was a gentle and adorable little creature. I loved watching her walk around and eat. Today, I just ordered an American giant millipede online and I’m super excited to meet my new little friend! I love millipedes so much, I even have a tattoo of a bumblebee millipede on my shoulder because of how much I love them. I’ve also got a mixed beetle colony and mixed roach colony and two tarantulas. I love invertebrates!

Question from someone in the research phase of my isopod journey…. Are these guys good composters? Currently I have worm bins where I compost my produce scraps so I can feed my plants some premium compost. I know that isopods are cleaners and you often find them in outdoor compost piles. I’d like to find a way to have worms and isopods living in a nice composting situation where they get a safe home with endless food, as I get fun pets and that sweet sweet compost. Is this ideal? Do you have any advice? I just want to avoid creating a poor quality of life for any of these critters

Back when Dan was still selling online, I ordered some fish and he emailed me saying he can’t sell to me because Im in Hawaii. He said his reason was it was too far and too much of a risk he didn’t want to pay for any fish that were DOA. So I offered to buy them without the live arrival warantee. He then told me it would only be worth his time if I bought $600 worth of fish or more. Im glad he’s out of the business.

From my experience, during water change, dropping the water temperature by a degree or two triggers cory to breed. It is a signaal for them of a rain season ergo, plenty of food.

Where can the scs1200 be found in Canada? It's $60 a tube on Amazon and no other stores like Canadian tire or the homedepot seem to have it. So far I have only been able to find the GE brand. I have to reseam a 75gal, what can I use that is easy to find? Will the GE be safe for building? Or should I use the SeaChem sealant/adhesive instead? Or is that just for aquascaping? How should people choose between other brands of silicone? Is there specific things we should look for on the label? How do I know which one will be strong enough to hold the water weight?

  • @themadaquarist

Yes, I’m in Canada myself, Manitoba and I purchase it locally at a pluming electrical wholesaler. This is a professional construction silicone so you will not find it available in box stores

Interesting to think about the powdered additives for reptiles or amphibians. I have a few dart frogs whose flies get dusted with, if I remember right, a powder containing calcium. These powders are supposed to be replaced every 6 months due to the volatility of the vitamins, and my 3 frogs definitely don't go through a whole tiny bottle in 6 months. I'll have to double check that it is what I remember, but that could be a good use for the leftovers.
