Darienheros calobrensis: a species profile of an incredible Panamanian jewel of a Cichlid
Today we continue on with another species profile with my dear friend Dan Sharifi of Cichlids of the Americas.
The species of todays video is an absolutely breathtaking jewel of a cichlid from Panama know as Darienheros calobrensis. A species of monotypic genera from the Darien region of Panama.
I hope you will enjoy todays video as we discuss this incredible fish that Dan brought back to the US from one of his latest trips.
Cheers!

The eyes are awesome!
Love the updates from COTA mate
Great to see.. I would love to have some of these in my tank.. Thanks for sharing Chris !! :D
Thanks for posting this, Chris. Wonderful cichlid. A friend of mine in the BCA back in 1979 went out to Darien and collected some specimens. They were nice but not as colourful as these. Soft water is a must for the species. Really impressive.
I don't care what species of cichlid gets his own spotlight if it comes from that facility mate, it's always worth a watch!

Nice! I love Grammodes, but I heard they grow super slow. Are these fish glass bangers and interactive? Do they dog at all? Thanks!!
ThIs is one of the cichlids that I have been secretly wanting. You ruined it for me now 😂 gonna get some anyway though.
WHERE CAN i GET SOME OF THESE FISH?

They are around in several private collections now. Umbee Kong in California would be one potential source. I’d suggest scrolling or searching Facebook groups that specialize in Centrals. Also the ACA convention next month in Cincinnati may be a possible source
lol!
It sort of looks like a black nasty with the spots
