Steel will alloy with carbon on graphite crucible to be very hard steel. How to prevent that? I think I will use clay to cover inner graphite crucible but not sure it works

OK, so as per my comment on Al. Cu. is a metal, conducts power but is not magnetic .... so we get told it doesn't work with induction heaters, have mixed feelings on that score, hence watching this. YES it works, so what's the difference in getting copper to heat here but not as a cooking pan? I've tried it with my 1kW heater .... and not much joy. have heated Cu pots over a steel plate on induction hob. Mixed feelings.

They are looking for a magnetic pan being present before turning on as a safety feature.

you need higher frequency to heat copper efficiently, it's pretty hard to heat copper with induction effectively.

Erm, did the video stop unexpectedly ... was waiting for a definitive answer. Al. is a metal, conducts power but is not magnetic .... so we get told it doesn't work with induction heaters, have mixed feelings on that score, hence watching this. yes it gets warm, but. ....

Induction heating works with Aluminium. It just needs a higher frequency and magnetic field to achieve the same goal. Most heating units are not suitable for aluminium. Yet it gets used in refractory applications for non-ferrous metals. It works. This test is not an ideal example.

Could you please tell me what type of crucibles are they? I tried melting Nickel in alumina and zirconia crucibles. Both of them are cracked as well. I tried BN crucible as well. But nickel reacts with BN and generate gas bubbles.

What kind of stainless steel is this? Have you tried with 304 stainless steel? I would be interested in knowing whether this type of steel can be efficiently heated, since it has the lowest electrical conductivity and is non-magnetic. Thanks!
