When I was dignosed at 11 we were told "ADHD is a learning disability that goes away in adulthood so just wait it out." The general consensus was that we needed to practice these skills so when we became adults we could do them. My Asperger's was considered a social learning disabilty that could be mostly overcome.

This is so helpful for us to understand what is going on, my personal feeling so unable to go on...but the accent on the strengths just really gives hope for communication and to face the struggles at school. Pedagogically, you have done a wonderful job. Thank you so much! Jeanne

My 8 year old kicks holes in walls all the time. We've tried all these things, with the result that my kiddo got thrown out of therapy for trying to kick the walls there. I don't think talk therapy works for kids whose memory is so bad (ADHD) that they can't remember coping skills or consequences, regardless of how much practice is done.

I find for myself and my students, to help with being overwhelmed.. break it down into steps, so it doesn't feel so overwhelming. Focus on smaller pieces, and not the whole project at once.

I hear that from people when there's literally no one else around. A bus driver once said it to me when I asked if I could stay on the bus while he turned around to complete his route. He was like "if I do it for you I'd have to do it for everyone." There was no one else there 😅😅😅

This straight talk is really appreciated. Amazing how unbelievably whiny and immature these “adults” are in the comments (no better than children!). Do you want to fix your damn problems or not? Thanks for the no BS video, Seth.

I am a 55 yr old female I was diagnosed at 54, by the urging of my husband who has raging adhd. I have no idea how to work with this. I am not whining, I was grieving and then I was angry, very angry. On top of this I was sexually assaulted at the age of 8 to 10 by my step father. I get now why I did things the way I did. But I can't live in the chaos and I have absolutely no trust in people. Anxiety disorder, panic disorder. Verbal abuse as a child, and my father left the day I was born. How did I survive until my.moyher passed away and then my live went to shit. Knowing has inly.made.it worse. I don't know how to trust, how do you trust a therapist. How do you know they have your best interest at heart. I an in a constant state of chaos, fear and frozen to the point I want to no longer exist. I don't mean suicide I mean just putting myself in a catatonic state where nothing matters and no emotions are felt.

Love the context that you build up here! There is crazy pressure from schools and it causes so much strain on mental health and relationships when all that energy could instead go toward enrichment and quality family time. The stuff that matters way more to future success than academics.

This is presented from a very negative point of view. I’m looking for information for adult ADHD. I hearing more about kids. Also want what I CAN do. Not what I “DoNT Do”. Go to minute 5:17 if you want the start of the 12 TIPS. I don’t have the patience to listen to this today. Maybe some other day.

Thank you thank you thank you for this video. Through your summit and others I’ve watched to support my kid, I realized that I, too, have ADHD (just got late diagnosed about 3 weeks ago). I’m realizing that I have to be patient, especially when my EF strengths/ weaknesses might be a different flavor than my kid. Self compassion has really been helping me show more patience. I’m definitely saving this video to reference later

Adhd late diagnosed parent of adhd child. Our entire household STRUGGLES badly to declutter. We work. We are perfectionist. Procrastinators. It's so hard but I'm still learning how to knock those problems down. I feel so bad for how cluttered our house is though.

Thank you! Helpful tips and yes, important to empower our kids how to be true to themselves and strategize in a way that literally plays to their strengths. I would also suggest to remember the goal is progress not perfection when making strategies- I have had to learn how to accept the compromise of a “good enough” strategy to keep the strategy real (as in, a strategy is there to serve me, not my life conformed to serve the “perfect” ideal life strategy)
